So, the silly season has started with Jackson Trengove heading of to the Doggies as an unrestricted free agent.

Lot of guys look to be lining up to go to the Bombers which makes me smile, and the Dees should be picking up a Leaver themselves.

Hopefully they get the big movements out early so that it doesn't hold everything up!

Welcome aboard, Jackson Trengove. Great way to start the trade period. From all reports, a great clubman and top bloke.

Port seemed to have a surplus of tall options in the backline and he was tried forward a fair bit in 2017 (not very successfully). We certainly don't have a surplus of tall defenders, so I can't see us playing him out of position up forward.

Yep, solid piece of astute recruiting from the Doggies i reckon!

Speaking of the Dogs, what do you reckon String goes for? 11 get it done? Or do they just need to beat Geelong's offer of 20?

I think Pick 11 would get it done. I don't think Pick 20 would get it done, if we accepted that it would be unders IMO.

That said, we have a poor record of getting fair value for our outgoing players over the last 5-6 years:

Lake to Hawthorn for a packet of chips (goes on to win Norm Smith medal)
Hrovat to North for a packet of chips (goes on to play every game in 2017 for North)
Stevens to St Kilda for a packet of chips (goes on to play 15 games in 2017 for St Kilda, only missing some to an injury)

What about, say, 11 with a 3rd coming back?

You saying 3rd rounder going to the Bombers? I agree sounds like a fair deal

@walesy what are your thoughts on Hartley? If all 3 of Saad, Smith and Stringer do get to the Bombers do you think that Hooker plays forward or back, and if he plays back does Hartley play alongside him and Hurley or get dropped?

It also seems as though Francis most likely won't be at the club next season

Do we still have our 3rd round pick? We did a swap with North last year of 3rd and 4ths and then I thought we gave away the North pick we acquired to someone else.

Love Jax as a loyal clubman (was the first one to commit back in the dark days and others followed), but unfortunately he is now a bit slow and cumbersome as a KPD, and just can't seem to get in the game often enough as a KPF - still goes alright as a pinch-hitting ruckman though, even though he always concedes height and ruck experience to his rivals (his recovery in ruck contests virtually makes him an extra mid, and he wins a surprising amount of clearances when playing the role).

How the Doggies utilise him will be something I will keenly follow.

Can't see how Hartley can fit in with everyone fit, but I reckon he's next in line when an inevitable injury hits.

Hopefully we get some value for Francis. It doesn't sound like he's desperate to get out, but then, he's also probably at peak value unless he can start presenting on his draft year talent. Probably in the best interest of everyone to move him, just hope with all the ins and outs to SA this year, that he can fit in somewhere.

Hearing that Port are right up in the Watts chase Bearman, could be a great get I reckon!

Still up in the air Chief, but Port made a good case for him to come over when he toured the club. Thinking 2nd round pick would get the deal done. Having him up fwd to support Big Dix allows young Marshall the time he needs to further develop his game and body (has already dominated a couple of SANFL games this year).
With Rocklobster coming in, and the potential of Watts coming in, I think this could push Port up to being a possible top 4 side next year considering we'll get a similar mid-table draw in 2018.

On a more sombre note, my thoughts go out to Robbie Gray and his family following the news this morning that he is undergoing treatment for testicular cancer.
Will be a tough period for him and his wife considering they are close to welcoming their first child soon.
Hopefully he has reached out to Jesse Hogan and others who have successfully overcome the same diagnosis recently.

Pretty sure you guys have still got Norths 3rd rounder (40)

Shocking news isn't it. It is super treatable though these days, so hopefully he bounces back no problems!

As for Watts/Rocky - It's a decent trade season if you can bring those two in I reckon! Might give you guys exactly what you need to push into contender status.

OK, must have been the 4th round that we no longer have any picks.

I don't think anything is required back to Essendon - Pick 11 is a fair price.

Yeah - Rocky is pretty much a done deal, just the finer details in the contract to sort out, announcement expected anytime now.
      Watts could go either way.
Also Motlop could go either way - depends on what he values most, money at a soulless franchise who ban wantaway players from B&F nights, or a solid culture at a family club (where he already has past family history) that values indigenous players and incorporate them into industry leading community programs - we'll soon find out what his motivation is!!!

Am also hearing Port are considering former Dees skipper Jack Trengrove as a delisted FA - could provide some depth with the likely departures of AhChee, Young and Impey.

      Just stating facts mate :p
And how hypocritical are Adelaide? Lowball contract offers to Lever then kick up a stink when he decides to take the Dees offer claiming that they won't pay overs for any player, then go out and offer Motlop $600k!!!

I get that they would be shitty that they keep losing good players, but at some point, you've got to ask why they are losing players, and Port isn't.

On the flip side though, they did just play in a Granny, so maybe they are doing something right afterall. :D
