SnOZ, that is hardly the most christian of attitudes to an ORFFAN reaching out for help. I expect better from the likely favourite for ORFFA glory in 2018.

    Vultures list analysis post-position release.

Jack Crisp and Elliot Yeo as Defenders covers the Docherty loss to an extent... then again pretty hard to cover your best player haha. Would have had 3 of the top 6 defenders based on 2017 averages (Doc, Yeo, Howe) if his knee held up!

Higgins to a MID covers the loss of Crisp as well in that position, but leaves forward line a tad weak unless Hogan and Watts can stand tall.

DEF Yeo, Howe, Pittard, Crisp, Houston, Talia, Short (Docherty)
MID Beams, Parker, Higgins, Gaff, O'Meara, Fiorini, Brodie
    RUCK Kreuzer, Martin
FWD Franklin, Greene, Watts, Hogan, Deledio, Otten (DEF), Johnson, Daicos

If I am to be a serious contender in 2018 I'm relying on players like O'Meara and Deledio to stay fit and find form, and others like Houston, Fiorini and Brodie to breakout in order to create a reliable form of depth.

Then again, I'm sure moves will be made in the trade period, and with delistings and the draft to come as well this team could look quite different come March 22nd next year!

Charlie's Opening have had some wins and some losses

Carlisle going to a pure defender and Hooker to pure forward from D/F isn't ideal
Liam Duggan into a defender is a win
Sam Petrevski-Seton in M/F DPP is a win
Jack Bowes to defender - jury is out on the dude, he better start to show something early 2018 or he could be MSD fodder
Darcy Tucker getting M/F may be a bonus, wait and see

Misfit's pretty happy to escape the CD stick for the first time in a few years..
Ryder/Longer Ruck only less than ideal, but Flynn getting his R status is nice
But Rich to back, Keays and Daniel keeping Fwd combine to balance the list pretty well, and a lot better than expected

The Cows were treated well by the 2018 SC position designations. We had wondered about our forward line but received good news there with the five players mentioned below all given M/F status. There was one disappointment with Nic Newman declared to be a mid rather than a defender - que sera sera. The draft and any trading will no longer be focussed on forwards but on improving the squad. If we had to put a team list in for an ORFFA match right now it would probably be -
D - Michael Hibberd, McGovern, McVeigh, Burton (Byrne)
    M - Mitchell, Fyfe, Hannebery, B Crouch (D Howe)
    R - S Jacobs (O'Reilly)
F - Menegola, McLean, Robinson, Papley (Parfitt)
    I/C - Prestia, Hall (Newman)

However, the likelihood of that exact line-up being Cows and available is probably close to zero.

Plenty of positional changes at the Goon, which are all fairly moot this year as we dive headlong into a Lyon-esque rebuild.

Anderson, Berry, Perryman and Phillips all lose dpp.
Bugg becomes a fwd, Weller a mid and Broomy a mid.
Bonuses in Will Langford, Duryea, Smith and Mathieson gaining dpp.

Still have a glut of forwards, so this is likely where the delist axe will fall.

For the most part the 2018 positional changes for the Cradle Mountain Devils were as expected. The Devils have less DPP players in 2018 and the number of pure midfielders has increased from seven to 11 with Zak Jones changing from Def to Mid, WHE moving from the forward line to mid and Hopper and Steele both losing their forward eligibility.

The Devils still have two ruck/forwards, however Nankervis and Boyd have both lost fwd eligibility, English has gained fwd eligibility and Pedersen has gained ruck eligibility. CMD are back to having five players that can be used in the ruck with Jordan Roughead being the odd one out as being a pure ruck in both 2017 and 2018.

With the retirements of Steve Johnson and Matthew Boyd the Devils are down to 26 players. Defenders Gilbert and Hibberd are likely to be cut.

CMD will be looking to improve team balance and strengthen the team for the short to mid term when trading resumes in January by trading a fringe midfielder or two and one of our first two PSD picks. The two lines that the Devils will be looking to strengthen are fwd and def.

EDIT: The fringe midfielders CMD are most likely to trade are Will Hoskin-Elliot and Liam Shiels who both averaged around the 80 mark and played at least 21 games each during 2017.

    Current Cradle Mountain Devils squad

    Def: - M Hurley, J Lever, N Vlastuin, L Spurr, S Gilbert, H Himmelberg, Mitchell Hibberd
    Mid: - D Zorko, S Pendlebury, D Heppell, D Zaharakis, J Steele, S Grigg, Z Jones, W Hoskin-Elliot, J Redden, L Shiels, J Hopper
    Ruck: T Nankervis, J Roughead, T Boyd
    Fwd: C Pedersen (F/R), T Lynch, T Membrey, J Gresham, T English (R/F)

    Current 2018 PSD picks: 14, 32, 50, 68 & 86

The positional announcements haven’t had a massive impact on the Blimps.
Backline loses some personnel, and Newnes’ non D/M status stings a touch.
Walters gaining M/F, Edwards, Dale and Balic retaining it are all handy.
Up forward, Jack getting F/M adds to Walla’s move to the forwards this year, and both Edwards and Dale continue their M/F status. Caddy comes in with M/F status as expected.
Forwards look very strong with eight players who could potentially start as forwards. Mids are solid when you consider the M/Fs (despite their youth), backline might need some re-enforcements.
There might be a tradeable forward or M/F or two.
The trading of Sinclair and Naismith and Tyson, and the retirement of Mackie, means we've already dropped four players from our list of 28. Caddy's arrival takes our list to 25.
It is pretty much a certainty further swathes of the list will be traded or cut. We envisage using 7 or 8 draft picks (currently 3, 8, 21, 59, 62, 80, 98) in pre-season, meaning we are likely to trade or cut 3-4 more players.

    Projected best 15 or so:
    DEF:
    Rance, May, Adams, Astbury/Byrne-Jones
    MIDS: Coniglio, Lyons, Newnes, Atkins
    Ruck: Smith
FWD: Walters, Brown, Caddy, Edwards (with lots on the bench)
    I/C: Jack, Hill/Dale

    Others not mentioned above:
    DEF: Brand, Vickers-Willis
    MID: Balic (M/F) Greenwood (F/M)
    FWD: McDonald-Tipungwuti, Hrovat, Parsons, Kirby,

    Big positional changes at Chookland.

    Mitchell is now retired.
    Mumford is now retired.
    Kelly is now retired.
    Stanton is now retired.
Spencer is now out of the AFL.
    Atley is now a forward.

Rest of the team is still the same, just older.

    Carry on.

For conspiracy theorists it is the 50th anniversary of Harold Holt's disappearance today. In breaking news, a couple of cows have been invited for a swim off a desolate, unpatrolled west coast beach just south of Bulls this afternoon ......

Merry Christmas to all. You have defiled this beautiful board with that ugly bird SnOz. Just think, somewhere in the world people would enjoy cooking that thing for xmas lunch. In aflland, the pie, its players and its supporters are roasted most weeks through winter.

    stay good
