@choppers Hanley looks to be a great potential pick, didn't realise that his season was so affected last year and wasn't even considering him!

@fresh with regards to Blakely, wouldn't you be worried with Fyfe and Neale both in the same team that they're going to take points off each other? I know Sydney has done it for a few years with 3+ midfielders averaging 100+ but that would be my main worry.

From my team. Laird - Picks himself really and should be D1 in most teams and should be highest averaging Defender.

My roughy for the year is Kane Lambert up forward. Averaged 86 last year and if you take out the 48 + 42 he scored in the first 3 rounds, he had a pretty good year. He has not quite made it to my SC team yet, but might be a player we are scrambling to get in come round 3.

Yeah good point about Blakely and it's definitely a risk.

On the flip side, Freo scored on average around 1,380 as a team per match (I don't have my most up to date file with me at work unfortunately). There's definitely room for improvement if they can win a few more matches.
I could be very wrong but I thought Neale didn't really spend his time forward or back and was mostly in the middle. There's talk of more forward minutes for Fyfe and Blakely split his time between mid and defence last year so that to me implies they're not all fighting for the same points from the same part of the ground. Maybe I'm naively optimistic and reality will hit in round 3.

@martyg Laird I've got locked in D1 atm. But with Smith down does he get more attention this year?

@fresh I still don't think any taggers would go to him and I think he is too fit to be shut down by any of the forwards going around. Safe bet I believe.

@martyg I like Laird and he was the first guy I thought of down back. But what do you make of his average after round 9 last year dropping to 93 and him only tonning up once in the last 6 rounds for a 90 average? It's got me a bit concerned that other clubs have already started putting a bit more time into him and that he may be over-priced.

@Tylo it will take a brave man to leave he out of your starting squad. If you had to chose between him and Docherty it would be a different story!

hmmm I am finding it hard to take him out but I hate paying overs (no Danger for me, surely he can't go any higher can he). Unfortunately most of the top backs had similar drop offs toward the end of last year and you can't leave them all out. Howe is probably the one out of the top group that I feel most confident will maintain his average.

Yeah Danger is a tough one... so lets say you start without him - Who do you make C round 1? Life is just easier with him in the team with the C on him.

Now to quickly contradict myself - there is a very high chance that GAJ and Danger will rest FWD which could affect scores. But with Selwoods injury he may play in the guts with GAJ resting forward... who bloody knows!

Didn't Danger "rest" forward some time last season - in a few matches, but there was the one where he was injured (I can't remember when or against who), and he still kicked 5 goals and scored 120-odd points. Its not exactly a hindrance to him... me thinks.

    Potential Viking Breakouts

Petracca - avg 79 with promise of more midfield minutes could avg 90+ with consistency
Heeney - avg 98 will a permanent role in midfield elevate him to elite status 105-110 average
Viney - avg 90 can an injury free season see him finish with 100+ average for the first time
Young - avg 57 currently priced 20 ppg below his best , smashed the SANFL playing as a midfielder was he promised more midfield time at the suns and kicks goals should see his best return in a season 80+ average
Howe - avg 74 can he be released from his learning year in the midfield as a tagger and get the pill 85-90 average

some games danger played permanent forward , i would think does not matter where he plays he will go large. Not many talk about the impact to other team mates as i suspect menegola and duncan to be the most affected by GAJ

Heeney is super popular at the moment and is a pretty safe option. The rest are super risky mate.

very speculative, i would not take those guys in my supercoach team except heeney who sits at F1 for me. I'd be positive at that least one will break out.

Menegola is a really interesting one as the top priced forward. He's been pretty consistent the last 2 years but I'm also worried about the impact of GAJ's return. At this stage I like the 2 guys already mentioned in Heeney and Billings, and I think Dahlhaus is usually a safe bet and priced pretty well.

i generally stay away from players who have had there first good year like billing worried will they improve maintain or teams put more work into them. Dahl is the pick of the three as he is underpriced but i wont be starting with them

I'm normally a bit wary of players like that too but I think it's cost me in years gone by. I was slow to get on Danger, Merrett and I think even Fyfe was a fwd a while back. I reckon Billings is a class act, not unlike Josh Kelly, and with Joey and NRoo freeing up some points, I reckon he'll only go up.

What premos are you looking at starting up fwd?

I only have Heeney then the rest are under 350k .... going for value in forward line. Every year ive gone for the same set up 3 premos in forward and back line, loading up in the mids and finding value else where its risky but i feel i have to try a different approach. If i was going same set up as previous years heeney billings and dahl would be lining up, who you starting with up fwd?

I'm willing to share my team right now... Still need to select one defender, and have $444,000 available to do so, although it'll likely be a rookie, giving me probably ~$300k to begin the bank with.

Don't know how much this team will change between now and the start of the season... I'm guessing somewhere between "lots" and "F*ck*ng heaps".

Wow cheap forward line JPK. Not keen on any other premiums there?

@bryzza with regards to Billings last season was his first injury unaffected year, and he had a full preseason. He's having one now too (fingers crossed) - interested in why you don't like picking guys, not just Billings, the year after a breakout?
