Commenting on the AFL discussion (rather than ORFFU) I don't see any compelling arguments in favour of the Bartel model. Surely allowing in season player trading (up to say Rd13) or NBA/MLB/NFL style in season free agency would advantage AFL clubs in the stated circumstances more than allowing players to unretire after not completing a pre-season in the Enright example. Alternatively in my opinion a May/June midseason AFL draft would make more sense than the suggested random January cutoff as Bartel in essence is saying stiff shit if a player retires or is injured on Feb 1st, Feb 15th, or even April 15th.
Now that the chief has rolled over the site to 2018, I've been able to open up the TSL team entry. You should all now be able to check your team balance through TSL. Don't worry so much about the fixture, we'll get that up shortly, at this stage its just the ability to enter your team and see the balance.
Hi all We’ve just had another unsuccessful auction and if you look at the four that have been completed this pre-season they’re pretty much fire sales arising because of the compulsory delistments. So, can we please revisit rule 12 for auctions? It seems to unnecessarily hamper the ability of coaches to trade players this way.
The success of an auction has got nothing to do with rule 12. Expectations are the root cause I reckon.
I'm with YAD. There is to be no negotiations in auctions - its a simple bid and accept / decline system. Otherwise each bid places different terms and for different total items, so they're not actually bidding for the same thing. We have trades for negotiating, and obviously if a coach puts a pick / player up for auction, they'd also be open to trade negotiations if the auction gets passed in. No need for change.
On the negotiation point (which is what an auction is at its basic level, but moving on), I don’t understand why it’s a problem - it’s all public and the auctioning coach has an interest in explaining why a certain bid is in the lead to encourage better bids. I still think we’re restricting coaches unnecessarily, but I appear to be in a minority of one (as I often am).
I disagree...it's a minority of at least two. I like the idea and it seems to work in 'FA. But if there's no desire for it then I'm happy to continue as is.
Just a heads up that both @choppers and I will be off on our own respective holidays over the next couple of weeks, and neither of us knows exactly how much time we'll spend on TS. If anything is urgent, then I'm sure we'll find out about it, otherwise it can wait until we get back. I can't see any issues occuring that would need an urgent response right now.
I have not thought about and I like the idea, you can get a feel for what the coach wants then step in with a better offer rather than instead of waiting for the auction to finish to working a out a deal behind closed doors
Pardon the intrusion folks just a heads up that player date of births and draft selection details have been updated in the TS stats database for all 2017 draftees so player ages will now be showing in any team or free agent reporting you might be doing duing the current trade period as well as prior to the ORFFU MSD
Choppers kindly set up the fixture as a direct mirror of last year - so we should have all games the same, only now the home / away teams have swapped. I've attached it here, and uploaded it to TSL, please have a look through and let me know if there are any issues. We think its easier to do things this way from now on. Next year we were thinking of mixing up the order of the rounds a little bit (so you aren't always playing the same teams at the same time of the year). Does this sound fair enough, and simple enough to everyone?
looks to have the same issues as last year mate - i.e. Rounds 7-9 inclusive are three straight away games for me. I don't think my opposition in round 9 is going to enjoy my (lack of) match report so not really fair on them
Alright, I get that 3 consecutive games as the home team can be difficult, but surely 3 consecutive away games is easier for you? ...and I don't see how away games in R6, R7, and R8 will effect your status as the home team in R9. Or are you planning on being on holiday for that week (Its going to be way too hard to plan home / away fixtures around everyone's holidays...)
Yep sorry I didn’t explain that very well. I meant that if that’s the scenario happening to me (for away games) then I’m sure it’s happening to someone else as home games. So if I was that third team I know it wouldn’t be ideal. That make more sense or clear as mud?
I'm fine with whatever gets decided for the fixture but I originally designed last year's fixture as a single fixture, taking into account finishing positions of 2016. I also put in that each team gets 8/9 home games.
That you did. What we did this year was simply reverse the home/away part of the fixture. We did however move two rounds, so that the GC / Port bye effected teams less last year. Haven't accommodated that yet this year, and don't really (personally) feel that we should.
All good, I didn't really mean my comment as a knock on the current fixture. I like the reversal system and think it can work well for 2-season blocks in future.
