After suffering a 15 point loss last week, the Crocs have dug deep to pull off a hard fought 21 point win. Final scores: Crocs - 1,112 from 15 for an ave of 74.1 Grenades - 1,091 from 15 for an ave of 72.7 Masten was unfortunately named as an emergency for the visitors, his 116 point effort would've delivered Gisborne another win.
Staghorn Flat / Seregeti Match Report It has been a turbulent week for the Buffalo's not just on the landing approach to Albury airport but a team that the media spotlight has been thrust firmly upon as the reigning premier in the midst of a major hangover faced a 0 & 4 start to the season as they made the trek to Mill Park. The Bulls had a 4 - 0 H2H win loss ratio over the Buffalo's and were looking to make it 5 from 5 to place the Buffalo's premiership defence in tatters. The punters couldn't split the 2 teams and the odds were split at $1.85. The Buffalo's were on top from the outset with Hickey (95) dominating McEvoy (49) who was seemingly gawn from the contest. The midfield battle was relatively close with Coniglio (116), Hill (111), Zaharakis (93) and Whitfield (89) mixing it with Merrett (107, Pendles (106) Danger (103) and Steven (76) however with captain Rockliff (29) stinking it up again the rot began to sink in. The Buffalos were clinical up front led by ex Whaler 'Sideshow Bob' Brown (167) who dominated the smaller Bulls defence. Brown was ably assisted by Christensen (98) and Cameron (83) in fact the Buffalos forwards decimated the Bulls defence 408 to 193 with only Salem (89) offering some run and carry for the Bulls. The Bulls had Roughead (86) & Lynch (67) both slot 3 up front however Hayward (25) couldn't bounce back from his efforts last week while McCluggage (48) struggled after a good few weeks. Of the Buffs defenders Haynes lead the way with a classy (107) his interception work exellent. All in all the reigning premiers bounced back to record a thumping 336 point victory over a hapless Bulls outfit who posted their lowest score in FU history with a new low of 991. The Buffalo's road trip continues next week against Christmas Island as they look to make up lost ground on the 8 whilst the Bulls are hoping to bounce back to form on the trek to Banchang and continue their unbeaten H2H record against the Barcrawlers which currently stands at 4-0. @wrightbrendan
Eden Whalers vs Coolgardie Prospectors - the 2018 Scotch 'n' Coke Stein In what has been a disappointing start to the season so far, the Whalers started to improve this week at home. It wasn't enough however to beat a Prospectors side who were also returning to form but a great game anyway with both teams posting season-high scores. Curnow showed leadership for the Whalers with 126 while the main improvement was in defence with Tarrant and Hartley returning with scores of 80+ Amon tried in the ruck but kept trying to tap to Motlop who was also checked. The visitors however were better prepared with 5 100+ scores led by Parfitt with a career-high 168 in only his 16th game (Geelong recruiting, yeah) and O'Meara with 145. The Whalers have a long bus trip to Ararat ahead of them (I hope everyone's on the bus) while the Prospectors host Korumburra. Nuytsland 1315 vs King Island 1180 @Tylo It was the battle of men with strong bloodlines down at Viking land. Vikings Brodie Grundy had 33 disposals and 12 clearances. That's a big night for a ruckman. Brodie Grundy 40 hit outs 12 to advantage, top scorer for Vikings Christian Petracca had a career-high 6 clanger kicks. Needs to tidy up that ball use. Dylan Roberton collapsed without being touched in Q2 but ran off. Dylan Roberton has been told that he'll have to take it easy over the next couple of weeks while he goes through some tests In reserve Daniel Venables carried off in Q3 with right ankle injury after it was twisted under him in a tackle. 10 weeks Toby McLean copped a finger in the eye in Q2, 5 tackles and aided by 5 free kicks Toby Green undisciplined gave away 4 free kicks Dane Rampe 23 possessions 8 marks Tom Mitchell finally got tagged still managed 24 possesions and 5 tackles Daniel Howe 9 tackles BOOM Monarchs Nic Naitunai 33 hit outs 8 to advantage still just 56% game time, when will the coach unleash him? Equal game-low 3 #SuperCoach points for Ed Richards at 1/4 time. Came back to score another 64 points Marc Murphy’s left-foot injury. Murphy pulled out of the side only moments before the first bounce. Eddie Betts left hamstring iced up at 3QT, icing on the cake for a poor start to the season Darcy Gardiner 20 possessions with the ball down back more often than not, but gave away 5 free kicks, Josh Kennedy 5.3 can he still win the colemen? umps paid him 4 free kicks with much of his scoring in the second half junk time David Swallow 29 possessions and a goal, top scorer for the Monarchs BOG 3.Grundy 141 2.Swallow 128 1.Cotchin 122 BIG TAP Grundy
Cow Bay 1,112 def Gisborne 1,091 After the disappointment of a 15 point loss last week, Cow Bay regrouped and poured extra resources into training and strategy this week. Local vendors poured extra resources into buying more produce to make sure they wouldn't sell out before the start of the game. Locals brought extra air horns and poms poms to show their support for their beloved Crocs. For the second week in a row, a tight tussle ensued but this time the young Crocs stood tall in the final minutes and managed to get over the line in a 21 point win over the Grenades. It was a tight tussle with only 2 players scoring above 100. The visitors had a slight edge in the engine room outscoring the Crocs 415 to 393. Acres (92) and Hopper (83) led the home side's midfield being opposed to Neale (85) and Fiorini (85). Visiting ruckman Witts (92) took the points over Lycett (82). New Croc Witherden (103) has slotted in seamlessly into the defensive 4 and marshalled the defence. He was the only above average scorer down back but was used as the man to get the ball out of the defensive 50. His efforts ensured that McGovern (80) was well held and was the only Gisborne forward that troubled the home side. At the other end of the ground Taranto (116) took BOG honours and, along with Gunston (99), were the focal points in front of the big sticks. Gisborne's Talia (82) and Seedsman (71) tried their hardest but weren't able to repel all attacks and were let down by their teammates. Tim Kelly (89) was the only player to put in a decent effort coming off the bench. Big Tap Witts (92) def Lycett (82) BAFFU 3 Taranto, Cow Bay, 116 2 Witherden, Cow Bay, 103 1 Gunston, Cow Bay, 99 The win moves Cow Bay up to 12th with a 2-2 record. Gisborne at 1-3 drops to 16th. Next week Cow Bay tackle Melbourne's public transport system and the 7th placed Pakenham Parasites. With a 0-4 record against the Parasites the Crocs will be hoping to get on the ledger. A win will mean the Crocs will be knocking on the door of the 8. Gisborne will host 18th placed Blanchetown. In the FU it's another matchup with a one sided ledger, 0-4 in Blanchetown's favour. A win for the Grenades should see them move out of the bottom 4.
Round 4 Trivia A few firsts in head to head records: Serengeti recorded their first ever win over Staghorn Flat (H2H 1-4) Christmas Island recorded their first win over Pearcedale (H2H 1-4) Hughenden recorded their first win over Banchang (H2H 1-3) Southern Cross recorded their first win over Korumburra (H2H 1-4) Hughenden's score of 1,477 in round 4 was their highest ever score. Staghorn's score of 991 was their lowest ever score. Groote's match against Pakenham was their lowest scoring match with a total score of 2,139 (1,148 to 1,105). Next week's matchups that have one sided head to head records: Banchang v Staghorn (0-4) Nuytsland v Hughenden (3-0) Gisborne v Blanchetown (0-4) Pakenham v Cow Bay (0-4) Coolgardie v Korumburra (4-0)
@fresh Hughenden's score of 1,477 in round 4 was their highest ever score. I know too well. Banchang has been on the receiving end 3 out of the 1st 4 games. That's why we sit 13th but have the 4th highest points for... All that is needed now is for our opponent in Rd5, Staghorn Flat, to do a complete form reversal (991 pts Rd4) and the Barcrawlers will slide further down the table.......
The Barracudas on 1,148/15 76.5 defeat the Parasites on 1,105/15 73.7 A topsy turvy performance from @ddsaints team, with the young bloods of Marshall, Hipwood and Cerra dropping the pill too many times to count. Even Newnes suffered the yips on a day they’d like to forget. Sidebum lead the way with as the running man, Bellboy held the centre and the big boys Hogan and Franklin did what they could to keep their team ticking along. For the home side, some solid performances from Cripps of the Jamie variety, the Bont and Phillips. Lewis and Frawley came off second best in some hard crunches. Backline held well with Houli and Lloyd combining well, Patty Cripps moved well, Hanna struggled as did Hawkins. Riewoldt stayed strong enough to seal the win. It wasn’t pretty, but the job got done on home turf. BOG S Sidebottom (PAKP) 138 J Cripps (GEB) 107 M Bontempelli (GEB) 105
Thanks for the updates @fresh, lack of tons clearly cost Gisborne this week. Good to see Wittsy back on the Big Tap winners list!
Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,477 defeat Banchang Barcrawlers 1,228 The statistician’s pencil broke trying to keep up with this high scoring contest. Hughenden were unrelenting in the second half, kicking their highest ever score and ran out winners by 249 points. It was not that Banchang was bad but how good Hughenden were this week with winners all over the ground. After being well held last week the home crowd could be heard chanting Yeeeeoooo (150) as he controlled the backline with a match winning performance, ably supported by Mills (80), Morrison (80) and a corked quad Sheppard (68). Hughenden had winners all over the ground with Sandilands (139) in control of the ruck against a competitive Sinclair (109) giving Hughenden’s onball brigade good service with Oliver (128) and Shiels (123) the beneficiaries. Despite the efforts of Suckling (123) to hold Banchang’s backline as a cohesive unit, Breust (142) was unstoppable and well supported by Rayner (97). Banchang’s Higgins (122) did his best to lift his team mates against the Hughenden onslaught but in the end wasn’t enough with Hughenden cruising to an easy win. It is long time since Hughenden has won 2 games in a row and the coach is hopeful the team continues the good form of the past 2 weeks when travelling to Odin’s graveyard of the Nuytsland Vikings. Banchang played well and on any other day probably deserved the 4 points but they came up against a rampant Prairie Dog outfit, they will provide stiff competition at home against the visiting Staghorn Flat Bulls. 3 Yeo, Hughenden (150) 2 Breust, Hughenden (142) 1 Sandilands, Hughenden (139) BigTap – Sandilands (139) over Sinclair (109)
Ararat 1199 Def Blanchetown 1043 In another lack lustre effort by the homeside, we were again beaten by a better, more consistent team in all lines. The game was won (or lost) in the midfield this week with ex-Bunyip Jack Ziebell leading the charge for the visitors with a 132 and 3 points for the BAFFU. Treloar was impressive and chipped in with a very handy 120. Gibbs and Sheed were well held to not hit their averages but with David Armitage and Dom Tyson both failing to make it to the game, the Bunyips were always going to struggle. Big Sauce Jacobs again failed to score a point for the Big Tap with the competitions number 1 ruckman, Max Gawn again getting the job done. The Bunyips are languishing on the bottom of the table and have recently sacked all recruiting managers. With a new team onboard, other ORFFU coaches should be keeping a lookout at their inboxes for trade opportunities. Ararat are back at home this week against Eden whilst the Bunyips are away to the Grenades. Thanks for the matchup @insider and apologies for the very, very late report. RL has gotten in the way this week and I have not been near a computer much. Big Tap - Max Gawn BAFFU - Ziebell Laird Atley
