Full time at the Sandpit and Southern Cross have run away from @DamoH ’s Christmas Island Smugglers to win the match by 181 points. SCS - 1428/15/95 CIS - 1247/15/83 Depending on other results there could be a log jam at second with @insider sitting eight points clear.
@wrightbrendan 100% correct, Vikings take the win Nuytsland 1137/74 Serengeti 964/64 Match report to come
Thanks Tomster. Sorry for my absence everyone (did anyone even notice I wasn't around much?). Everything is back to normal now... so I'll be around a lot more often.
Cow Bay 1,312 def by Banchang 1,323 Games out at The Swamp have featured close fought encounters with an average score of 20 points across the 3 matches that had already been hosted by Cow Bay. Locals came out in force and they weren't let down, being treated to another hard fought match. Although Cow Bay suffered their 5th loss of the year, hopes were high especially seeing that the high scoring match was the highest score Cow Bay had ever achieved and first score over 1,300. The visiting ruckman Sinclair (94) edged out Lycett (86) in the hit out department. As a result, Banchang's midfielders feasted on the hitouts to their advantage with Adams (120) and Higgins (103) winning the centre clearances and leading the way for their teammates. Greenwood 98) also stepped up but Lyons (67) seemed to be asleep at the wheel. Youngster Ed Langdon (138) was the biggest beneficiary of the inside 50s and was ably assisted by Sam Gray (96) to get the ball between the big sticks. Not to be outdone, the defensive end of the Barcrawlers also stood tall. Barrass (112) took plenty of intercepts while Suckling (105) cleared the ball out of the defensive 50. For the home side, Blakely (114) carried the midfield butHopper (88) and Acres (84) seemed to coast through the day. Their lack of effort meant that the forward line of Gunston (102), Taranto (95), Martin (94) and DeGoey (92) pushed up the ground to ensure plenty of scoring opportunities and keep the scoreboard ticking over. McKenna (97) and Boyd (87) also stepped up to play multiple roles over the ground. But the best player for the home side was a young man who had been struck down by injury for 2 years and had a tentative return to AFL last year. This year Scharenberg has gotten his confidence back and over the weekend won the ball, took intercepts and rebounded well to score 137 points. While the home side were disappointed in another close loss, there are plenty of positive signs to keep the Cow Bay community optimistic. BAFFU 3 Ed Langdon, Banchang, 138 2 Matt Scharenberg, Cow Bay, 137 1 Taylor Adams, Banchang, 120 The win keeps Banchang in 11th spot with a 4-4 record and only 1 game and percentage out of the top 8. Next week the Barcrawlers head back home to plot and scheme for their match against Coolgardie. The loss gives Cow Bay a 3-5 record for the year but the huge team effort saw the Crocs move up to 12th spot. Next week the Crocs will be hosting Nuytsland in what is hoped to be another close fought match.
@wrightbrendan Vikings welcomed Buffaloes to "Odins Graveyard" , turn back the clock 12 months and should have been a game for the ages, but both teams are facing different demons. Nuytsland have a revolving door of injuries and Serengeti's hangover continues with mutliple star players woefully under performing. This game was never going to be the highlight of the round, but which team could get over the line with what was out there. Nuytsland's midfield top score Crouch 92 says it all really with only Mclean 114 and Grundy 136 raising the bat, for Serengeti May 116 and Dangerfield 141 these scores suggest the game should have been closer. So where did it all go wrong for the stampeding Buffaloes? The stench of "Odins Graveyard " or the sacrifices before the game ? Whatever it was Pendlebury refused to enter the ground and Selwood was hiding under his sheets at the hotel. If they both played and hit their averages, Vikings still would have one by 4 points. In the end: Nuytsland 1137 Serengeti 964 Brodie Grundy (136): Poor first half but massive in Q3 and went on with it… 42 hit outs… also 19 disposals and 5 marks with 5 tackles… 1.0 as well Toby McLean (114): Inside midfielder McLean contributed with 26 possessions, 5 marks, 5 tackles and managed 2.1. Patrick Dangerfield (141): Rotating midfield and forward Dangerfield contributed with 26 possessions, 7 tackles and kicked 1.0. Steven May (116): Could be in trouble for making contact with the umpire in Q2… 21 possessions including 16 kicks… also 8 marks and 2 tackles… and booted 1.0. 3.Danger 2.Grundy ( Big Tap ) 1.May
Round 8 Trivia Pearcedale's 446 point demolition of Blanchetown was the 21st biggest win in FU history. Out of the 712 matches since FU inception, it was the 31st margin greater than 400 points. Cow Bay's score of 1,312 was the highest in their history and was also their highest ever losing score. Nuyts' score of 1,137 was their lowest winning score ever. Ararat's win was their 8th in a row. A tough match next round to keep their streak going being matched up against Christmas Island. Southern Cross now has 6 wins in a row, one short of the best in their history of 7 wins in a row which occurred last year from round 5 to round 11. Blanchetown moves to 12 losses in a row, the equal 3rd longest streak in FU history. Eden moves to an 8 game losing streak, the worst in their history and 6th longest in FU history. Pakenham is now on a 5 game losing streak. It's the longest in their history but they've done it once before. They've never had 6 losses in a row before. Next week Banchang is going for their 30th win ever. Southern Cross is going for win number 40. Blanchetown has never beaten Staghorn. Their H2H record stands at 5-0. Cow Bay has never defeated the Vikings with a 0-3 record between the two sides. Hughenden and Nuyts will be playing their 60th H&A match in their respective club histories.
Round 8 - Bulls 1257 defeated by Cudas 1288 Match Report Debate was raging as this contest drew near, how could those faceless people who create the draw give the premier Friday Night Football match up (thats the first match up on the FU draw) to a team that had fielded 11 players and scored 827 points the week before. The commissioner @JPK so concerned about media rights and the potential for dwindling tv audiences was rumoured to have cut his mid season European junket short to allay key stakeholder concerns and there were unconfirmed sightings of his right hand man @choppers overseeing this match up from behind closed curtains in the only corporate box at Mill Park. The contest however was anything short of a non event as the Bulls managed to name 15 players for the contest and a number of emergencies. The Bulls injury crisis continues with two players pulling up lame in the warm up and subsequently replaced by 2 debutants in Darcy Lang & Brayden AInsworth. The Cudas went in with an agile ruckman in Berry (37) who was soundly beaten by Big Boy McEvoy (99) who contines his solid season. The midfield battle was enthralling with Bontempelli (132) Zorko (121) and Cripps (111) going head to head with Zaharakis (108) Coniglio (100) Whitfield (95) and a resurgent Rockliff (98). The Cudas Phillips (61) 2 goals were pivotal however its unlikely he will recall the contest after being knocked out as he kicked his second. The Bulls defenders combined for 285 points with Salem leading the way with 115 outscoring the Cudas forwards who could only muster 256 points with Riewoldt (85) and Cripps (78) the best The Cudas defenders just got the better of the Bulls forwards Lloyd (130) was brilliant ably supported by Houli (94) and Frawley (89). For the Bulls Lobbs (107) return to the side was impressive whilst Roughead (89) continued his return to form. The game was won off the pine where the Cudas retirement village of Lewis & Burgoyne combined for 213 points whilst the Bulls could only muster 129 points between Weller and debutant Ainsworth. All in all both coaches walk away happy @YAD69 with 4 points whilst the Bulls regained some respect of the competition. Next weeks sees the Cudas taking on Pearcedale in what shapes as a ripping contest. The Bulls take on the struggling Blanchetown side. The Bulls are yet to taste victory against the Bunyips and have been on the wrong side of the ledger in a number of classic encounters between the two teams.
ROUND 8 - SOUTHERN CROSS SANDGROPERS 1428 defeated CHRISTMAS ISLAND SMUGGLERS 1247 @DamoH ‘s Smugglers came to town sitting 4 points clear in second; a strong team looking to consolidate its spot on the ladder. Southern Cross were on a 5 game winning run and looking to bridge the gap to second. It promised to be a huge match, an 8 point game if you like, between two high scoring teams. What we got was a fine display of work forward of centre with both teams defences struggling to have an impact on the contest. Ex-Sandgroper Kreuzer 127 took the big tap honours over Ryder 108 but Fyfe 126 and Cunnington 143 managed to win their fair share of the ball to beat Hall 110 and Dunstan 99. With control of the midfield the Sandgropers forwards feasted with Smith 101, Darling 125 (another huge performance) and Harmes 139 smashing out a PB. Westhoff 116 and Gray 122 were strong contributors for the visitors and Heppell 103 also helped from the bench. It wasn’t enough in the end and the home team ran out 181 point winners. BAFFU 3 - B.Cunnington (143) SCS 2 - J.Harmes (139) SCS 1 - M.Kreuzer (127) CIS Big Tap M.Kreuzer
@fresh I really like the trivia page, I really do.........BUT Pearcedale's 446 point demolition of Banchang was the 21st biggest win in FU history. Out of the 712 matches since FU inception, it was the 31st margin greater than 400 points. I really, really take exception to this.....especially when Banchang didn't play Pearcedale, but in fact, @fresh , we played your Cow Bay Crocs and recorded a win....just sayin'
ROUND 7 - SOUTHERN CROSS SANDGROPERS 1394 defeated PAKENHAM PARASITES 1190 Apologies for the late review @ddsaints It was the fifth edition of the Battle of the Bugs and bragging rights were at stake; iirc the ledger was even at 2-2. Bellchambers 112 took out the big tap honours over an underdone Ryder 66 but apart from the ever reliable Gaff 107 there were no other strong midfield contributors for the visitors. The home sides midfield of Fyfe 142, Selwood 135 and Duncan 134 won plenty of the ball, outclassing their opponents both on the inside and outside. With this much of the ball it was certain one of the home sides forwards would star. And so it was with Darling 132 marking everything that came his way and continuing his breakout season. Speaking of breakout seasons, Hogan 130 continued his as a lone hand up forward For the Parasites. In the end it was the poor performances from other players that cost Pakenham the match as Southern Cross finished up 204 point winners. Fixed! My bad, that's not a great oversight. Ive always had an issue with FU team names that start with the same letter. When I was a young'un I struggled with Collingwood and Carlton for years. When a footy jumper was involved I had no trouble so go figure. It's probably one reason why I support the Hawks
Mate you have the Staghorn Blanchetown record ass about its Blanchetown 5 Staghorn Flat 0. Includes losses by 19, 18 & 15 points!
I don't get it... On a black & white TV the Hawks looked just like the Pies and the Roos. Surely that was more confusing!
