Cow Bay 1,108 def by Nuytsland 1,257 Coach @fresh invited coach @bryzza over to play football on the weekend. The Vikings played better, won and had more fun. The Crocs lost so they had a tanty and went to bed early. Hopes of another close encounter (this time of the Viking kind) were dashed early on when Jack Martin didn't come out to play. Last week's club record effort was always going to take a toll but it also took a toll on his fill in Cam McCarthy (who hasn't been part of the best 15 this year yet) who continued to suck. While the Vikings have some injury concerns of their own, they still managed a respectable score to defeat the home side by 149 points and keep their place in the top 4. For the visitors, Grundy continued his strong 2018 form to take out the Big Tap with a solid 109 point effort. Mitchell (155) broke free of the tag and gathered possessions at will, youngster Heeney (105) provided strong support while Ross (79) and Viney (68) strolled around the ground. Not seeing much of the ball, the defensive unit pushed up the ground to find more of the ball. Harbrow (126) and Rampe (116) led by example with Williams (87) following suit. Although only 2 forwards provided a target for the day with McLean (100) and Petracca (89) kicking goals, Griffen (84) provided some help off the bench to ensure the team score was a tough one for the Crocs to chase. The home side saw an average effort from Lycett (72) in the ruck which made the job harder for the young mids. Some exciting signs as Hopper (99) was best in the middle and had some support from Blakely (84). The under siege defence wilted in the tropical heat. Scharenberg (91) continued his fine form but didn't get much help from the likes of McKenna (79), Witherden (66) or Robertson (61). The forwards continued to score points, just not those points between the big sticks. DeGoey (111) and Gunston (102) led the way with Taranto (85) still showing the coaches what he's made off. BAFFU 3 Mitchell, Nuytsland, 155 2 Harbrow, Nuytsland, 126 1 Rampe, Nuytsland, 116 The win sees the Vikings move into 3rd place with a 7-2 record for the year whereas the Crocs slipped to 13th with a 3-6 record. Next week the Vikings will be providing a ground, lockers, bench and catering to the visiting Bulls while the Crocs will refuse to leave Cow Bay to play host to the Sandgropers.
always like reading your match reports @fresh . Playing to your potential you would have won but i see many wins coming soon for cow bay, a good young team.
Round 9 - Korumburra Blowflys (14th) 1158 lost to Serengeti Buffalos (16th) 1276 Let's be honest. The Blowflys got ahead of themselves this week. Coming off 2 wins on the trot after a very disappointing start to the season, they thought they could just turn up to the Terrordome on the weekend and go through the motions to defeat the struggling Buffalos. Wrong! Serengeti rolled into town (facing one of the longest road trips in the universe) on the back of 2 straight losses with nothing to lose and everything to gain. An even contest around the ground was belied by the utter midfield dominance of Serengeti resulting in a 118 point smashing. Dangerfield (114) Steven (104) Merrett (118) Pendlebury (94) - just too good. Redden (108) the only Blowfly midfielder to fly the flag this week despite the ruck battle being controlled by Goldstein (112) over Hickey (88). The Buffalo forward line benefited greatly from the quality delivery provided by their midfield dominance, Big Ben Brown (128) and his 5 snags leading the way from Dixon (94) and Christensen (93). Hooker (117) stood tall for KB when swung back to repel the attack while Webster (107) continued his breakout form - looking like a gun 2IC in defense under the tutelage of the unretired great Luke Hodge. Korumburra should have a smooth hand over as Hodge re-retires at the end of the season and the new general, Docherty returns to the fold... Haynes (100) and Langdon (94) defended and intercepted well all day for Serengeti, while Walters (82) was a welcome return from injury for Korumburra, shaking off a little rust and will only be better for the run. Young gun Ainsworth (98) is thriving with more time through the midfield recently and has given KB supporters some hope for the remainder of the season. It's back to the drawing board for the Blowfly match committee this week as they try to come up with a way to overcome a rampaging Baracudas outfit coming off 3 straight wins. Meanwhile, Serengeti will try and keep the ball rolling as they welcome Coolgardie back to the Crater. BAFFU 3. Ben Brown (128) SB 2. Zac Merrett (118) SB 1. Cale Hooker (117) KB
Apologies to the other coaches whose teams have smashed the Blowflys at the Terrordome this season for the lack of match reports. 12-13 hour working days + 2.3 kids and their activities + other things I won't bore you with are making it hard for the Korumburra coaching staff to find time to scratch themselves lately - and it's clearly showing in the teams dismal performance thus far. We'll strive to improve the analysis and our performance on the field of battle moving forward.
Bulls Bunyips Match Report The Bulls were warm favourites in this clash to send the Yips to their 9th straight loss for season 2018. The Yips were buoyed at the selection table and the Chief Selector was quoted in the FU as celebrating the fact 'I have reserves this week'. However when the Yips checked in at Mill Park only 12 Bunyips were sighted with Tyson, Langford and Silvagni no where to be seen. Unfortunately for the Yips the only reserve which played was named as a forward where they managed a full compliment. This was it the Bulls who had never beaten the Bunyips who held a commanding 5 - 0 lead in the H2H with 3 games decided by under 19 points including a heartbreaking Elimination Final loss in 2015 by 18 points had the perfect opportunity to break their second hoodoo of the year (following the Eden Victory earlier this year). There were no surprises on this day, McEvoy (116) who has quietly gone about defending his big tap award smashed a disappointing Jacobs (47) in the ruck giving Rockliff (102), Zaharakis (98), Coniglio (89) and Whitfield (81) first use of the pill. The Yips with only Polec (73) & Armitage (18) attending the centre bounces offered little. Young McCluggage (130) was the main benefactor as he roamed across half forward pleasing the Bulls coaching staff with his ability to find the pill. Laird (102) & Saad (87) offered some important run for the Bunyips however only the elusive Cameron (92) was able to be an effective forward. DBJ (97) played his best game for the Red & Silver and Weller (109) again showed glimpses of his potential, Stewart (84) although named on the bench got a full game and offered some sort of target for the struggling yips. All in all it was the Bulls who put a record win on the board 1278 to 806 Next week it'l be the Bulls traveling to Nuytsland whilst the Yips return home with their tail firmly planted between their legs to take on the P-Dogs. 3 - McCluggage 2 - McEvoy (Big Tap) 1 - Weller @martyg
Round 9 Trivia Banchang's 1 point victory secured win number 30th in their existence. Their record now stands at 30-48 for a win rate of 38.5% The 1 point win was the 8th match where the result was decided by 1 point. We're still yet to see a draw in any match. Southern Cross achieved their 40th win giving them a 40-38 record with a win rate of 51.3% Groote's score of 1,466 was the equal 18th highest score in FU history. Blanchetown's score of 806 was the 15th lowest in FU history and the lowest in their club history. The match between Groote and Pearcedale was the 10th highest scoring match ever with 2,799 points scored (1,486 for Groote and 1,333 for Pearcedale). It was the highest scoring match Pearcedale has been part of but still 139 points short of Groote's highest scoring match that they have been part of. Pearcedale also happened to record their highest losing score. The match between Staghorn and Blanchetown was one sided with the margin of 472 points being the 18th biggest. It was also the 20th match with a margin of 450 points or more. Ararat now has 9 wins in a row, a feat achieved before by both of the island teams of Christmas Island and King Island. One more win and Ararat will achieve 10 wins in a row and will hold the record for the longest winning streak...for the third time. Southern Cross is a couple of wins behind on a 7 game winning streak, the equal longest in their club history. Blanchetown now holds the outright 3rd longest losing streak with 13 losses. One more and they'll have the equal 2nd longest with Hughenden. Eden have seen 9 losses in a row, the longest in their history. Pakenham have experienced 6 losses in a row, their longest losing streak ever. Next week Blanchetown vs Hughenden 0-3 Cow Bay vs Southern Cross 0-4
Southern Cross Sandgropers 1,379 defeated Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,201 The Sandgropers came to play and despite some tense moments late in the game as Hughenden pressed it was a 178 point win to the visitors. The Sandgropers were out of the blocks early with plenty of ball control through Ryder(96) in the ruck with the ageing Sandialnds (84) taking a while to get going. The Groper midfield took advantage with Fyfe (101), Duncan (101) and Selwood (98) the beneficiaries. Pressure kicking into Hughenden’s forward line allowed McGovern (123) and McVeigh (125) to take control and rebound quickly. Hughenden’s backline was solid with Yeo (113), Mills (92) and Sheppard (100) but they were unable to stop Darling. In the last ninth of the game when after doing nothing all day Darling (181) decided to unleash, putting the game beyond doubt as a win for the visitors. There were plenty of positives for Hughenden with the young guns starting to find the ball however it is the inconsistency which is frustrating the coach and fans. The Sandgropers are starting firm in the top 8 and appear destined for a finals appearance while Hughenden will have to lick their wounds and rebound next week for their tilt to make the 8. BAFFU Awards 3 Darling (SCS) 181 2 McVeigh (SCS) 125 1 McGovern (SCS) 123 BigTap – Ryder (SCS) 96 over Sandilands (84)
Groote Eylandt Barracudas 1,466 defeated Pearcedale Panthers 1,333 After blowing away the Blowflys last round the visiting Panthers were feeling pretty confident in heading to the paddock on Groote Eylandt. Whereas the home side Barracudas had a lucky win over the Bulls and were still searching for that next level. The Barracudas got off to an absolute flyer with their mids firing on all cylinders in Patty Cripps, Zorko, Phillips and the Bont, sharking the oppositions big tap. It was hot and heavy in there as the Panthers didn’t travel all this way to let the home side run all over them. JPK, Parker combined well with Caddy providing excellent support with his touches. Jake Lloyd for the Cudas could do no wrong, keeping Daniel & Weller quite all day. Corr came in for a late out in Frawley as he had to have scones and cream with his nanna and Koloj….. worked well trying to contain Neal-Bullen and Melksham, the young kids did well but Jake M certainly muscled them out. At the other end of the ground Howe do you do locked down Cripps, James Cripps however Riewoldt and Waite no more had a field day in front of goals while Hawkins chipped in when he wanted to. Young Jack Graham thought he could have a go at the big tap, no not really, the Nank was just too tall and off the bench rotations was seamless for both clubs. In a high scoring affair it was the quick start to the game that kept the Barraudas in front all day and took the chocolate for a big home win, with the locals lodging formal paper work to have a new public holiday created in honour of Jake Lloyd (JLT = Jake Lloyd Time).
A confusing update from Flying Fish Cove Park as follows: Smugglers - 792/8.5 (93.2) out of 13.5 Grenades - 608/7 (86.9) out of 14 @Tomster
Into the second half it’s the Buff putting in a strong performance despite running out with a couple of players short. The Prospectors are one short themselves and the ruck contest between Hickey and Martin is proving to be a high quality affair in the extra open spaces. Progress scores; Serengeti 998/77/13 v Coolgardie 565/63/9 (with some 0’s already included)
@eagle_eyed After last week's post game tanty it seems the home side is still in a stinky mood with the visiting Gropers behind in the total points stakes but well ahead on an average per player basis. The Crocs are ahead by 158 points...for now. Cow Bay: 843 from 11 for an ave of 76.6 Southern X: 685 from 8 for an ave of 85.6 Still to come: Blakely, Lycett, Gunston, McDonald & 158 points vs McGovern, Hibberd, Hardwick, Fyfe, Cunnington, Darling & Harmes
Agreed mate - pre scaling in the final game I have: Smugglers - 1214 Grenades - 1073 Full match report to come.
@eagle_eyed An ass whooping has been handed out to the home side at The Swamp with the Sandgropers coming away victors by 258 points. Final* scores: Cow Bay 1065 Southern X 1323 *subject to scaling
It's full time at The Stadium and the Banchang Barcrawlers have run out 144 pt winners over the visiting Whalers from Eden, 1122 to 978, giving the locals 5 wins on the trot Both teams were equally affected by the Chinese Bye Virus, fielding only 12 players, although The Whalers were a tad unlucky when they weren't able to field a ruck and the Barcrawlers' Sinclair had his worst game for the season, scoring a lowly 45, the lowest score on the field. With Eden only able to post one score over 100, that being Ed Curnow 110, and only 2 in the 90s being Crisp 97 and Andrews 91, they were no match for the local who had winners all over the park. Banchang chose to go with no Interchange and a 3 man midfield, and relied on the defence and mids pressure to keep Eden from scoring, while getting the ball down to the forwards and let them kick a winning score, and the game plan was successful, with the defence of Suckling 115, Doedee 104, Tuohy 89 and Barrass 77 completely overshadowing the Whalers forwards with only Trengove 85 posting a reasonable score. This allowed the 3 man midfield of Adams Higgins and Greenwood to post a combined 270, and deliver the ball into the forward 50 add nauseum with Robinson 172, his best score ever, being the main recipient. But he also had great assistance in Langdon 104 and Impey 97. Both teams will now look forward to next round, with Eden hosting Blanchetown and Banchang at home to Korumburra, hopefully with full sides, and only one more game before the byes and hoping more players can return from injury. BOG: 3. Robinson BB 172 2. Suckling BB 115 1. Curnow EW 110 BIG TAP: Sinclair BB 45 won on a walkover. @HOLKY
Round 10 - Korumburra Blowflys (14th) v Groote Eylandt Barracudas (5th) Heading into the final 3/8th's of this slugfest at the Terrordome, Korumburra had their noses in front 818/11 (74 avg) of Groote 709/10 (71 avg) but the result could have easily gone either way. In the end it was the Blowflys who came home with a wet sail to get the much needed victory over the Cudas 1250 v 1080. Match report to follow
