Stats for the 2017 ORFFA Rising Star award Although it is long overdue please find below the spreadsheet with the 2017 ORFFA Rising Star stats for your perusal to enable you to submit your votes for the 2017 Rising Star Award. The spreadsheet has four tables of 2017 ORFFA Rising Star stats, the first table provides information for all 43 Rising Star eligible players that played at least one game in the ORFFA during 2017. The next three tables rank the ORFFA Rising stars by average score, total points and games played. @walesy provided me a spreadsheet with a list of the ORFFA Rising Star scores for each round during 2017. The scores from Walesy's spreadsheet were then input into a spreadsheet which had a column for each of the 17 ORFFA rounds to get the totals and number of games played by each Rising Star eligible player. These totals were then cross-checked against the leaderboard in the ORFFA Tab which also displays the ladder at the end of each round. Walesy’s leaderboard overstated the total points scored by some players as games played during the bye rounds were included for some players. After deducting the bye games from Les’ leaderboard the totals for the players in the top 10 were the same as the totals I calculated. Voting is the same as for the 2014, 2015 & 2016 seasons - each coach votes on who they think were the five best ORFFA Rising Stars of the season, awarding five votes to the best player, down to one vote for the fifth best player. Coaches are unable to vote for players from their ORFFA club. Please send me a message with your votes by 2 July 2018 and I will tally them up, announce the winner and post an article in this thread on the player that wins the 2017 ORFFA Rising Star award.
Hi mate, excellent work with this! I notice Brandan Parfitt is listed twice with different data. Which one is the correct one?
Thanks for the prompt response @anthak pointing out an error. The two entries for Brandan Parfitt were for 3 games each. There should have been one Parfitt entry for six games, I have corrected and updated the spreadsheet to include all 6 games in one entry.
So far 11 coaches have submitted their votes. In the next few days I will tag/message the coaches who are yet to submit their votes and I will also tally the votes received to date. Thanks to everyone who has already voted. Later this afternoon I will be going to Etihad Stadium to watch the final round of the AFL Under 18 National Championships which will feature many players that will be eligible for ORFFA Rising Star awards over the next few years.
As usual I am running a bit behind schedule, earlier today I sent reminders by PM to five of the six coaches that are yet to vote – given melbandy had some RL issues to deal with and is no longer coaching the Nuffers I haven’t sent him a reminder at this stage. With votes having been submitted by 12 coaches there is a clear-cut top five in the voting for the 2017 ORFFA Rising Star Award. The coaches of the players in the top five have all submitted their RS votes. It is extremely unlikely that the player in first place will be caught, however only four votes separate second and fourth with fifth place five votes behind fourth. So it is quite possible that there could be come changes from second to fifth. An article on the current leader of the RS votes is in progress, however I will wait until next weekend before thinking about closing the voting and finalising the article.
