Provisional scores from the Goldfields, sees the home side fall across the line by 48 points. @tyze1 Coolgardie 1282 / 15 / 85.5 Staghorn Flat 1234 / 14.5 / 82.3 There will be many questions asked of the Prospectors coach: like why did he not put a tag on S Coniglio (143 points), why does he persist with putting R Clarke on the bench (102 points), and why did he experiment with both O Wines and B Ebert in the ruck, when S Martin did a perfectly good job? Full report to come, but the basics are: 3 - S Coniglio, Staghorn Flat, 143 points. 2 - O Fantasia, Coolgardie, 133 points. 1 - A Aliir, Coolgardie, 117 points (tied with S Martin, Coolgardie, but given to Aliir due to the Mesmerizing Mohawk!) Giant Tap: S Martin, Coolgardie, defeated 50% of L Weller, Staghorn Flat, by 61 points, 117 to 56.
PEARCEDALE PANTHERS 1195 vs 1168 COW BAY CROCS It was a tight contest at Panther Park, with the Crocs nearly pulling off an upset against the out-of-sorts Pearcedale Panthers. Jordan De Goey (147) and Alex Witherden (131) were the young leaders during the round for Cow Bay, while Luke Parker (125) was the only player to put up a fight for the home team. Ultimately, it came down to the poor scorers for both teams, which isn't a sign of a great game. Charlie Curnow (36) and Jy Simpkin (24) were no match for Quinton Narkle (26), Cam McCarthy (34) and Paddy Dow (42). Both teams will want to put this game behind them, and all tapes were burned in the garbage tip in the opposition goal square.
Sad week for the Grenades with the retirement of Koby Stevens. In all seriousness, horrible for a 27 year old to have concussion issues. Hopefully they don't effect him for the rest of his life, but with these head injuries you often can't tell the lasting issues
While it was close at Eden Sporting Complex, Pakenham just got the better finish to win 1175 to 1103. Both sides played well with our forwards excelling with Papley least among them on 83 still outscoring the Parasites' best Hogan (72). Bellchambers won in the ruck against McKernan easily with the latter having an off day. The main game seemed to be won on depth with Guelfi, Trengove and Cordy totalling 134 compared to Pakenham only having Hipwood score under 50. Not much more to say about the game apart from that. It'll get better for both sides next year though BAFFU: Johannisen 3, Tarrant 2, Sidebum 1 Giant Tap: Bellchambers 97 def McKernan 35
*traditional rivals Haha. I like to add to to the theatre of it all heading into finals. Bad luck by the way. You just ran into a better team on the weekend. So close to that undefeated season too - maybe next year...
@DamoH Nuytsland 1308 def Christmas Island 1134 Smugglers took one of there shortest trips of the year, sailing down the west coast to take on Nuytsland at there feared home ground "Odin's Graveyard. During there voyage Smugglers had a man over board a ruck , Vikings being a sea fairing nation sent out a ship to help but in the confusion of the high seas also lost a man overboard, but the game had to go on as both clubs played out of position players. Smugglers could not have lost a most important player as Grundy tapped to Mitchell, Grundy tapped to Mitchell, Grundy tapped to Mitchell. This was the theme all day long as Smugglers struggled to lock the most influential player on the ground, which cost them the win. Other than what has been mentioned Gray recovered nicely from a concession last week, Martin through in a few don't argues but what it came down to was a below par performance from the rest of the team. Howe has decided he wanted an early holiday deciding he would practice his MMA moves throwing a punch hitting a player in the jaw but did not stop there he then threw his leg out and broke a players leg This was a high stakes game, Christmas Island to consolidate a top two and Nuytsland to stay in touch with top four. A loss see's Smugglers slip to fourth and Vikings up to third. In some good news both men overboard were found alive and well. Vikings best Tom Mitchell (193): In the guts… followed very loosely… 22 first half touches… Mitchell contributed with 46 possessions, 9 marks, 9 tackles and 2.2. Seb Ross (129): Playing midfield Ross contributed with 33 touches, 6 marks and 6 tackles. Brodie Grundy (113): First ruck… Grundy contributed with 17 disposals, 6 marks, 5 tackles, 28 hit outs, 1.1 on the scoreboard and 4 frees against. Matt Crouch (110): Playing inside midfield Crouch contributed with 40 disposals, 4 marks and 4 tackles. Christian Petracca (101): 1.1 from 22 possessions and 6 marks plus 8 tackles Smugglers best Dustin Martin (139): First goal… copped a tag in Q2… 30 disposals and 2 marks plus 1.0… umps paid him 3FF… gave away 3 FA. Starting in central midfield. Robbie Gray (113): Starting in a FP Gray contributed with 24 disposals, 4 grabs, 6 tackles and 2.0. 3.Mitchell 2.Martin 1.Ross Big Tap, Grundy
Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1070 defeated by Serengeti Buffalos 1248 Hughenden fans entered the round with high expectations, a win would push them toward a top 8 spot, but the in form Buffalos showed them exactly why Hughenden are not top 8 material yet. The Buffalos were consistent all over the ground, but it was their midfield that was outstanding with Hickey (85) palming the ball to perfection against make shift ruckman WHE (50). The Buffalos midfield were dominant Dangerfield (126), Kelly (130), Pendlebury (122) and Merrett (123) and that was the game. Hughenden had no answers and while Yeo (128) and Oliver (127) and Breust (114) did their best to drag the team back from the brink it was not enough. The Hughenden youth, fringe players and lack of ruck was obvious with Serengeti's midfield strength, maturity and consistency will make them a finals wildcard if they stay in the 8. Serengeti march on to a finals berth and Hughenden regroups for a tilt in 2019. 3. Kelly (130) 2. Yeo (128) 1. Oliver (127)
ORFFU Round 15 Trivia Gisborne's score of 1,241 was their highest losing score. We've witnessed FU's longest winning streak this year. Unfortunately it all came to an end over the weekend. Ararat's 14 game winning streak will be a tough one to top. Korumburra's win means they have won 6 on the trot. Their all time record is 7 in a row which occurred from 2014 FU Round 13 to 2015 FU Round 2. King Island now have 6 losses in a row, the longest in their club history. Blanchetown move to 19 losses in a row, edging ever closer to the record of 21 losses in a row. Groote recorded club win number 60. Their current record stands at 60-31 for a 65.9% win rate. Pearcedale recorded club win number 50. Their record now sits at 50-37 for a 57.5% win rate. Next week Cow Bay v Ararat, 0-4 Staghorn v Gisborne, 4-0 Banchang v Southern Cross, 0-4
Yep i was going to write a big post about how I'm being vilified and there's a big conspiracy against me and it's really not fair... but then i grew up and realised what a load of codswallop that would be and I should either be positive and have fun or quit and stop blaming others for my poor attitude
children, children, children.... both of you go sit in the corner. without any toys. no you idiots - different corners! why anyone wants kids is beyond me!!!!
In AFL round 18, the Coolgardie Prospectors welcomed the Staghorn Flat Bulls @tyze1 to the Goldfields, and sent them back home with a Brisbane-like "honourable loss". It didn't help the visitors cause that 14.5 men turned up (no, that's not a short joke!) Coolgardie 1282 / 15 / 85.5 Staghorn Flat 1234 / 14.5 / 82.3 Defence: Coolgardie - Recent draftee J Short blew all the defenders and all the Bulls forwards out of the water, with 114 points. L Duggan, J Macmillan, and D Astbury will all need to pull their fingers out, scoring between 69 and 87 points each, with R Clarke in the magoos once again asking the question of the coach, scoring 102 points. Staghorn Flat - B Maynard lead the way on 91 points, flying the flag and crushing his Prospector opponent (J Watts). D Byrne-Jones was serviceable on 78 points, while C Salem and N Jetta have been asked to step it up, after each scoring 66 points. A better performance by these two boys could have won it for the visitors. Coolgardie won by 44 points, 345 to 301. Midfield: Coolgardie - We really got screwed over by the Hawks contingent this week - J Sicily missing with wanker's cramp and J O'Meara taking a last-minute week off because he wanted too. This meant that H Clark had to fill the void, and did his best, but 63 points just isn't good enough. The lights were out for the power pair, with O Wines (75) and B Ebert (70) being next to useless. T Miller was the only ray of sunshine with a solid 113 points repaying the faith and also showing what he should be capable of for the next few years. Staghorn Flat - S Coniglio turned up to play. 143 points and a BOG is testament to that (and it wasn't even close to the biggest score of the round). L Whitfield was excellent support on 105 points, while B Hill (73) and T Rockliff (66) would expect the coach to be punishing them on the training track this week. Staghorn Flat won by 66 points, 387 to 321. Rucks: Staghorn Flat saw big Stefan line up for the first bounce, and just whittled under the pressure. They finally decided to send L Weller in for the fight, but only half of him turned up (we think it was the left half). He did a great job under the circumstances, scoring 56 points (112 unscaled, which would have been very handy elsewhere on the field), but was still belted by S Martin. Coolgardie won by 61 points, 117 to 56. Forwards: Coolgardie - You could see the relief on the the faces of the home fans, man it was good to have Orazio back. Mr Fantasia was fantastic, leading the side with 133 points. It was a good thing too, as the Bulls defence got the better of his teammates, seeing little magic in M Daw's 70 points, disappointment in B Parfitt's inability to maintain his early season form, scoring only 55 points, and utter disgust in player and coach when J Watts squanders his opportunity with a measly 50 points. Staghorn Flat - It was a tale of twins for the Bulls forwards, as J Short rebounded with ease. J Roughead and J Thomas did their best infront of the big sticks, with 87 and 86 points respectively. The disappointment came in the form of youngster H McCluggage (66) and relative veteran R Lobb (60) trying to "outdo" Parfitt and Watts. Coolgaride won by 9 points, 308 to 299. Interchange: Coolgardie - Running off the bench with a full head of steam, and a wicked Mohawk, was the hot hand of A Aliir and his 117 points. He's repaid the faith, and was handsomely rewarded with his first goal in league footy! Ably supporting him was new recruit T Dumont, whose 74 points were adequate for a bench player. Staghorn Flat - Chasing Aliir onto the park was the returning D Zaharakis (is there a joke about going "from A to Z" in this somewhere?), who followed his opponent closely to score 106 points of his own. Not far behind was the new kid, B Sier, who scored a solid 85 points, to keep his side in with a chance. It was a draw, dead flat even, nothing could separate them, 191 points apiece. Ultimately it was the locals who were just too good, even with some serious disappointment, the big performances of the game were just enough. The 5 tonnes between 113 and 133 got their noses infront, and although S Coniglio lead allcomers, the Whitfield and Zaharakis support was not enough, while the visitors underperformers were too numerous. There was only 44 points in it, and a couple of minor tweaks to the sides, or a slight bit better (or worse) performance by a couple of players could have easily changed this one. The Votes: 3 - S Coniglio, Staghorn Flat, 143 points. 2 - O Fantasia, Coolgardie, 133 points. 1 - A Aliir, Coolgardie, 117 points (tied with S Martin, Coolgardie, but given to Aliir due to the Mesmerizing Mohawk!) Giant Tap: S Martin, Coolgardie, 117 points defeated L Weller, Staghorn Flat, 56 (112) points, by 61 points. Next week sees Coolgardie on the road to Frankston (the boys are already scared), to take on the Panthers from Pearcedale. Meanwhile the Bulls are back at home near *Western Australian accent* Albury in Staghorn Flat, as they welcome the Grenades from Gisborne. Good luck to all teams.
Groote Eylandt Barracudas 1,325 defeated Gisborne Grenades 1,241 As many of the media personalities have stated, the biggest problem for the Barracudas is their forward line, especially with Waite still out, Jong season ending injury and Stanley still doing the ruck work. Not with standing that the injury list for the club continues to rise – Houli, Ling, Bont, Hanna, Graham, Petruccelle, Nicholls, Waite, Jong, Hannan and Burgoyne. A spin doctor was brought in to get the mojo going for the Cudas especially Stanley who needed to be brutal in this match up against Witts. It was a battle for the ages, with both big boys crashing and smashing it out for their respective team mates. Jake Lloyd playing the loose man for the Cudas was in his usual form and was ever where on the paddock, Weitering stepped up to the plate this week playing a key defensive role and did a job on Harmes and McGovern. Kolo looked strong but Frawley was playing second fiddle to the young guns. For the visitors forward line Gresham ran through the midfield slotting 2 goals, with Lambert combining well with 23 touches. The middle was fast and furious, leading the way for the Grenades was Neale and Kelly racking up the possessions and punching their way through the packs. Masten was just a tackling machine. Corn Boy Cripps got involved early muscling his way forward bagging 2 goals, what a gun. Zorko the magnificent was on song digging deep through the centre, while Berry scored twice all while tagging and locking down SPP . Off the bench for the Cudas was Lewis making the opposition pay each time they slipped up, while Guthrie covered well. Gisborne’s Murray rebounded well off the defensive line and McGovern roamed up forward. The main difference for the day was the scoring power of the Cudas. Sam Newman came in and provided a FARK session for Tomahawk. With a total of 7 big ones for the day and 4 coming from a final quarter burst Hawkins was a shining star, thanks Sammy! The flow on effect was 4 more for Riewoldt and another 3 from Cripps of the Jamie variety. Wow what a day at the office for these boys. Their opposition didn’t just roll over, Brayshaw was the chief distributor off the wing, Seedsman supported him well and Wilson was the swing man at both ends of the paddock. For the Grenades it may have been a lost opportunity to get into the top half, they will now need to depend on other teams to faulter as they move to 13th. For the Barracudas it was a strong display of grit in the face of adversity to take the win on home turf and to continue to the big dance. The Barracudas head to Hughenden to face the puppy dogs and the Grenades will stay on the road to take on the Bulls of Staghorn Flat for a second bite of the cherry.
(another late report sorry @eagle_eyed ) Southern Cross Sandgropers 1411 def Blanchetown Bunyips 1090 As the Bunyips continue their worst season in ORFFU history and are closing in on the longest losing streak, it was @eagle_eyed turn to put the 'yips to the sword. The only real highlight was the the 'Yips defenders coming through with the goods over the Gropers, but that was about it. Dion Prestia (125) Devon Smith (122) and Ben Cunnington were all impressive posting above their average scores. Jacobs was again owned in the Ruck with J Roughead getting the Big Tap points. SCS remain on the road and take on the Parasites. My prediction is that SCS will lose. Based on their current form of WLWLW, they are due a L! Whilst the Bunyips take on Vikings at home again, and predict another L to go with the long list of L's. Big Tap - J Roughead BAFFU - Prestia - 3 Smith - 2 Cunnington - 1
It's Qtr time at The Stadium with the home team leading Southern Cross in a close one, 3/215 to 3/211. The visitors have been very workmanlike up forward with Smith 97 competing well, and down back with Hurley 77, while Banchang have dominated in the ruck so far with Sinclair 100 continuing on his good form, while newcomer Jordan Dawson in his 1st game for the Barcrawlers showing some good signs and scoring an acceptable 53. There's still a lot of water to go under the bridge before this one is over... @eagle_eyed
Early in this week's matchup down in the Crater it is the Buffaloes that have got off to a quick start Serengeti 215/2/108 v King Island 92/1/92 @Tylo
