Week 1 Match previews - Part 1 QF 1 Neptune Island Noahs (13-1-1, 1st) vs Maralinga Atoms (10-5, 4th) previous clashes Rd 4 2016 Maralinga Atoms 1083 defeated by Neptune Island Noahs 1407 Rd 6 2017 Neptune Island Noahs 1288 defeated Maralinga Atoms 1232 Rd 13 (AFL 17) 2018 - Maralinga Atoms 1388 drew with Neptune Island Noahs 1388 The 2018 Minor premiers are 4-1 all time in finals and host an Atoms side making their ORFFF finals debut. These sides last met in Round 13 (AFL Round 17) and the match ended in a deadlock, tied at 1388 apiece. Neptune Island lead the all time head to Head 2-0-1 and the Atoms will need to fire in order to defeat their opponents for the first time. This match will be a baptism of fire for the Atoms but finals derbies are always keenly contested and a close finish is expected QF2 Rutherglen Fugitives (11-4, 2nd) vs Useless Loop Virgins (11-4, 3rd) previous clashes Rd 3 2016 Useless Loop Virgins 1283 defeated Rutherglen Fugitives 1264 Rd 4 2017 Rutherglen Fugitives 1472 defeated Useless Loop Virgins 1183 Rd 1 2018 Rutherglen Fugitives 1416 defeated Useless Loop Virgins 1313 Rutherglen lost their 2017 elimination final and ironically play a more experienced Virgins side in the other Qualifying final matchup, despite the Useless Loop side also losing an Elimination Final last season. Home sides have won 13 of 18 finals matchups however the Virgins have twice won on the road so won't be daunted by the vocal Riverina crowd. These sides last met in the opening round and the highscoring match ended with the Fugs ahead 1416-1313, giving them a 2-1 lead in the all time head to head with 1400 plus scores in the last 2 head to clashes. For mine this one comes downs to both sides ability to hit the scoreboard with the Fugs slight favourites to notch their first finals win.
Week 1 Match previews - Part 2 EF 1 Black Swamp 29ers (10-5, 5th) vs Jan Juc Ducks (8-7, 8th) previous clashes Rd 5 2016 - Jan Juc Ducks 1282 defeated by Black Swamp 29ers 1379 Rd 3 2017 - Black Swamp 29ers 1242 defeated by Jan Juc Ducks 1265 Rd 9 2018 - Black Swamp 29ers 1391 defeated Jan Juc Ducks 1359 The 29ers started 6-0 and were 2nd with a 10-2 record after Round 12. An untimely 3 match losing streak sees them slide to 5th and facing a sudden death match first up. The Ducks overcame a rough start to the year to finish in the 8 with much superior recent form to the home side. The sides staged an entertaining match in Round 9 with the 29ers getting home in a 1391-1359 thriller. Black Swamp lead the all time head to head 2-1. The 29ers wil be determined not to lose a 3rd straight final but the Ducks appear to be the most likely side to spring an upset this week. EF2 - Walpole Woylies (9-6, 6th) vs Mt Thirsty Boozers (9-6, 7th) previous clashes Rd 4 2016 - Walpole Woylies 1166 defeated by Mt Thirsty Boozers 1295 Rd 6 2017 - Mt Thirsty Boozers 1185 defeated by Walpole Woylies 1318 Prelim Final 2017 - Mt Thirsty Boozers 1393 defeated Walpole Woylies 1252 Rd 9 2018 - Walpole Woylies 1473 defeated Mt Thirsty Boozers 1309 The 2nd state derby this week sees the first ever time two sides face off in finals for a 2nd time, after the Boozers ended the Woylies 2017 season with a 141 point defeat in the preliminary final. This season sees a Woylies side nudge 20,000 points durign the regular season as the top scoring side in the comp but they have managed to lose frquently enough that they rarely appeared in top 4 contention. Meanwhile the reigning premiers have struggled along failing to reach top gear as injury hit early but they appear to be approaching full fitness at the critical stage of the season. The all time head to head is tied 2-2 with the Woylies winning the Round 9 with a mamonth 1473 - 1309 win and the psychological edge should see them get home.

Gross start so far with Selwood pumping out a 159, and the in form Ablett and Hawkins only combining for 144. Challenge is certainly ahead of the Ducks now!
I'm happy Hawthorn should now play finals and Essendon are only a mathematical chance now...but Worsfold letting Heppell "tag" Mitchell for half has made it bittersweet, think that puts a fork in my elimination final even though its early. Oh well, VC on him in Supercoach too so at least get something from being Titch'ed up.
Fairly poor effort from both teams with only three out of 18 players topping 100. Neither team playing as a team. Two individual efforts from buddy and Mitchell with 175 and 153 being the difference. Boozers leading 10-900 vs 8-643
The Fugitives @tyze1 are on 1,147/13 88.2 to the Virgins on 684/9 76 Once again, it’s to the Virgins to chase a score, might be a bit harder this week with basically no ruck.
Following the completion of the Saturday evening games the 29ers 14/1176 lead the Ducks @thokash 10/912. Black Swamp have Matt Deboer completing proceedings in the early Sunday game and wil need him to post a monster score if they are to hold off a Ducks side with T McDonald, Hanley, J Lewis, N Jones and Lycett still to play.
Wow not sure how that turned around so quickly, Grundy cancelled out Selwood and then the 29ers had under performers across the board. Now I wish I didn't go the gamble on Hanley and just took a Henderson 60, please don't get injured!!
Noahs well and truly on the back foot following a host of lame performances. Noahs 12/1003 vs Atoms 11/1016 Still to come Noahs - Gaff, Haynes, Gawn Atoms - Redden, Cogs, Vince, Davis
With MDB scoring 78 per fan footy the 29ers have finished on 1254, a solitary point short of their best ever finals score of 1255. The Ducks @thokash require only 343 to win from their remaining 5 players. Iit is quite likely they will have sealed the win in the 4th quarter of the Demons vs Suns match with Lycett in hand to extend the margin further.
Might need to double check scores but the Boozers win narrowly 1372 to 1342. Hopefully I haven’t added up wrong as the Boozers remain unbeaten in finals.
Looks like the Fugitives have run out comfortable victors 1360 to 1250 in round terms finally claiming its first final win in the FF!
