This trade is revised due to an incompetent coaches oversight, to read Rory Sloane & David Mundy & PSD picks 57 and 75 for Matt Kennedy & PSD Picks 14 and 38
As per the Auction thread the Marble Bar Misfits receive PSD pick 30 in exchange for the Cradle Mountain Devils receiving Daniel Rich and PSD pick 47.
Agreed - age aside, two guys that averaged close to 200sc points last season for Kennedy (12@65) and essentially a 1st and a 3rd round pick?
Mundy is a one year player, maybe two Sloane is a 2 to 3 year player at current output at most Are the Packers likely to challenge in that time, hell no. I valued Sloane around pick 15 and Mundy around 40. Like me Tracey is a huge MK fan. FWIW I always run any prospective trade involving myself and Tracey by at least 2 other coaches, and I did so this time also, to ensure the trade was fair. Age aside be buggered, age is massive, thus TTH's failure to gain a bid even half decnt for the 4th best defender last year, due to his age. Give me a break
The picks exchanged value the two players, one of whom has a year left to play, maybe 2, and the other not a lot more at pick 10 in a super draft year. To that I added a player taken with pick 13 (whom Tracey loves) a couple of years ago whose last season (at 20) was marred by injury. My window is open, thus pick 14, or your genorous offer of pick 13 is of less use to me than it is to those building for the future.
Everyone here uses age as a factor when assessing value, and certainly when arguing value during trade negotiations. So not sure you can eliminate age from consideration.
Fair enough - let’s bring age into it then..... Sloane - 28 yrs old, most likely 4-5 years left for a mid that averages easily 100 and is arguably the Crows best player. Mundy - 33 yrs old, 1-2 yrs left for an F/M that also averages 90-100 and is set to be a perma mid now that Neale has gone. FOR Matt Kennedy who has never averaged above 65 in three seasons......and pick 14.
Well, Rory will be 29 in a few days..... Look, I'm no expert on player value so I don't know what Rory is 'worth' other than to say any commodity is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I do think it's fair to say that his trade value would have been at it's lowest for quite some time, though. If I owned Sloane, I expect anyone approaching me this offseason about a trade would've been citing his age, his injury affected 2018 and his lower avg as reasons why he should come at a discount. Especially this mob of lowballing so and so's.
Its pretty clear that everyone has a different value on Sloane (and Kennedy for that matter). I recently traded out Sloane in the FFF for what was effectively pick 8. Was this a good deal? Who knows. My assessment of Sloane was that of a 29 yr old guy who had just come off his worst season in six years, had a mid season injury and worryingly had shown that he could be tagged. Based on this, I reckon I got a bargain. Is he worth a first rounder? Sure Is he worth a top 5 pick? Probably not (though Jeff Garlett could be) Is he somewhere in the 8-15 range? Yeah probably Now Matt Kennedy at nearly 22 is reasonable player that hasn't really had a chance to strut his stuff yet. Averaged 75SC and 20 possies across 7 games on return from injury. He's a bit of a gamble, but as a first round pick from a couple of yrs ago, its a fairly low risk punt. In the wash up, i reckon this one is slightly skewed in Len's favour but not greatly. my 2c
In my opinion the ORFFA is a very illquid market but in my experience most ORFF* deals won't be even in that coaches will pay less for short term success than what they should because other coaches overvalue the value of picks and success in 3-5 years by quite a high margin. Unless coaches were offering top 10 picks for Sloane and being turned down then 11-15 seems reasonable even though I would value him more highly myself. Sloane for Kennedy plus 14 seems not unreasonable for coaches trading winning SC points now for potentially more SC points in 3-5 years. As for Mundy, 57 and 75 for Pick 38 I would argue this seems pretty good value for a player when Kade Simpson received one offer of pick 58 and another offer of Scharanberg and Shipley when he unsuccesfully went to auction. Pick 38 allows Tracey to draft a player she wants rather than a player she is offered and therefore may be worth more to her due to the flexibility this choice provides.
Would you take the deal (effectively pick #13 for pick #15) that CR offered Len? I think the trade mooted is lopsided. My 2c worth.
I still remember my auditing lecturer: "not only do you have to be independent, you have to be seen to be independent." Perhaps an auction would have been more transparent?
There is always a winner and a loser in trades... I think Len has won slightly but it’s by far from the worst trade done in this league!
A deal has been struck between TTH and myself. Vultures receive: Kade Simpson, PSD picks 76 and 94 Nareewillock receives: Picks 36, 72, 90
