I think besides all the little jabs and feelings this has been a pretty good discussion. The trade does seem mutually beneficial (short v long term). Even if one party may have been able to get more from others, at the end of the day they were offered something that in their view benefits them and took it, understandable really.
As per the auction thread the Wagga Wagga Wombats receive Jordan Roughead and PSD pick 53 from the Cradle Mountain Devils who in return receive the Wombats Round 1 mid-season draft selection and PSD pick 61.
Given I made the first comment about lop sidedness that may have started all this, I’ll try and add my 2c in a bit more detail. I don’t think there was any collusion or underhandedness. I didn’t even think about relationships outside the game until far later. It was never my reason for the comment. No ones integrity is being called into question by me. I just think it was a lop sided trade. Mundy and Sloane are still both in the top handful of players in their position. Picks 15, 38 and Matt Kennedy don’t get close to this. Despite how the trade is justified as a win for both parties, my view on this hasn’t and won’t change. I didn’t veto because maybe I read the rules wrong, but I thought the time limit for vetos had already expired by the time I saw the trade. So what was the point of doing it. My concerns with what trades like this do are part of an increasing pattern (and yes, I realise I have been part of this pattern). Lower ranked clubs very rarely seem to get off the bottom and farming off their best scoring players to teams in the ‘premiership window’ only prolongs these premiership windows and keeps lower sides further away. I know it’s a keeper league, but there has to be more ‘short term’ rewards for everyone in the league to have people continuing to commit every year. Eight year rebuilds don’t provide this. I’m not saying I have a solution. I just don’t think that trades where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer under the guise of a long term strategy that you almost have to get 100% right are good for the overall health of the comp.
FWIW, it looks like you first commented less than an hour after the trade was posted. The veto period is 48 hours, which has now passed a couple of hours ago, today.
Also, I didn't explicitly state it here: but I was happy to remove my veto after the more detailed explanation involving the pick swaps. I still think the trade is a bit lopsided, but not veto worthy to me.
As per auction thread... the Hoppers receive Clayton Oliver and PSD pick #43 Wagga Wagga receive Cam Rayner, Ed Curnow and PSD pick #16.
Edited. As if we needed any more drama! How I still confuse names with teams to this day I'll never know.
