The Buffaloes haven't finished as strongly as they started but it has been enough to hold on for a win 1266 - 1062

    Match report to come

The Islander Cup heads back to Groote, so far in its short history the cup hasn't stayed still, racking up the frequent flyer points.
Thanks to @DamoH it was another hard fought match.

Full time at Eden and Staghorn Flat won 1387 to 964.
(going for a new format for the report because the copy-paste was getting old)
It was a bad week for the Whalers but they happen. And all in all, it's better to have them against good teams.
A bit annoyed that Tom Lynch scored better than our best but still not enough for a vote but Zaka held up for the former players. Phillips was a late out but that didn't change much. Staghorn Flat simply did better and returned to form after a close loss to Banchang. Both teams have 50/50 games next week with the Bulls returning home to face the Blowflies while we travel to Pearcedale.

    BAFFU: Whitfield 3, Zaka 2, McEvoy 1
Giant Tap: McEvoy 122 def Phillips 0

Question on the ladder. Should it not be on % rather than points scored? like the rest of the ladders in AFL/SC etc

Nah mate, ours has always been on points for.
Basically because that is what you can influence. Its a better separator for equal wins, than a percentage that is highly dependent on opposition scores yet can't be influenced in any way by the team in question.

Thanks mate. Never really paid that much attention before, only on the points. Was just looking at how poorly we are travelling (again)

    @martyg

In a round 3 matchup that pitted 2 winless teams against each other, the Buffaloes came into the contest hopeful rather than confident that their third straight home game might see them across the line to get their first win while the visiting Bunyips were just hopeful that 15 players had cleared customs and they would be able to field a full side.

Unfortunately for Blanchetown Ben King did get held at the airport after mistakenly carrying his twin brothers passport and he consequently missed the game and so despite fielding a ruckmen for the first time in 2019, the 'Yips still ran out with less than the full compliment of 15. Somewhat balancing the ledger though, Tarryn Thomas arrogantly came out on one leg expecting to be able to take care of the Bunyips debut ruckmen as half a player. This was despite the Buffaloes backup ruckmen Matthew Lobbe being available to run around in the earlier reserves game. Blanchetown did manage to take advantage of the shambolic Serengeti ruck situation with Reily O'Brien (85) managing an encouraging debut but the 'Yips weren't able to take any sort of advantage and were never really in the contest thanks to some standout performances from some of the senior Buffaloes.

Jeremy Cameron (163) was the biggest of those standouts as he continued an impressive start to season 2019 but unlike the first two rounds he was able to find a little more support in this encounter. Captain Danger (128) did what Danger does, Zac Merrett (120) showed improvement but it was the performances of youngsters Powell-Pepper (115), Parish (112) and Constable (99) that realy got the voices of the home crowd roaring. Even though they didn't come away with the win, their were 'green shoots' of encouragement for Blanchetown with their own youngsters and 2019 draftees Walsh (111) and Rozee (116) showing that their is a bright future ahead for the Bunyips. But ultimately it was not enough to get the win in the end and Serengeti ran out 203 point victors.

    Final scores
    Serengeti 1266 defeated Blanchetown 1063

    BAFFU votes
    3 Jeremy Cameron SER (163)
    2 Patrick Dangerfield SER (128)
    1 Zac Merrett SER (120)

    Giant Tap
    Reily O'Brien 85 defeated Tarryn Thomas 19

Next week the Buffaloes will finally leave their home shores as they head to Banchang to challenge the Barcrawlers for the rights to hold the Overseas Cup while the Bunyips will head back home in a tough enounter against the Barracudas of Groote Eyelandt

Gisborne Grenades 1413 defeated Korumburra Blowflys 1307

Chaos (but not quite in the Mr. Big international organization of evil KAOS way) was the word of the weekend down in the rolling hills of the Macedon Ranges. Some might compare the football played to a Western-style shootout, with the aim being to fire as many shots as possible before the opposition can get one away. Your friendly author meanwhile prefers to compare it to a replacement bus service in Melbourne when the train lines are taken down for a week. First, there's the disorientation as people try to figure out where the bus leaves from, similar to the Grenades players who decided to barely play the first quarter. Then there's the stampede as a bus arrives, maybe an injury or two in the chaos as a bus does arrive. This continues all day, with surges of people and surges of buses and surges of big supercoach scores. Then there's the overarching disbelief of having not one, not two, but three South-Eastern train lines being taken down in the same week, surely similar to the expletives @Mick found himself thinking upon news that the Grenades, the bloody Grenades, had topped 1400 in the week the 'Flys were matched up to them! Stupid metro.

But enough of a stretch to Melbourne's metro railways from a football match, and onto the VLine we hop to view the majestic countryside in Gisborne and a quite surprisingly delightful game of football. If you did happen to hop off the VLine and watch some of that fantasy football - you might have seen the following:
    - Lachie Neale running circles around everyone else with 177.
    - Michael Walters trying to keep up with his former teammate with 120.
    - 7 tons for the Grenades.
    - 6 tons for the Blowflys.
    - 3 scores of under 60 for the Grenades.
    - 2 scores under 60 for Korumburra.
    - Gary Ablett's fading light is yet to fully fade, but is getting there.
    - David Mundy rekindling his lost flame.
    - Both teams really lacking a quality defender (sold a dud in Laird by @martyg).
    - Both teams having some of the best forward-lines in the comp.
    - The Blowflys only winning across one line, the rucks.
    All in all, chaos.

The Grenades thank @Mick for making the journey cross-country to play this friendly match. They apologise profusely for somehow scoring so high and consigning Korumburra to 1-2 despite scoring 1300. The Gisborne hype-train is well and truly moving, hop on or get left behind. Play the KAOS ball in 2019, and hope that your author hasn't gone too early in stating the Grenades are a premiership lock.

    BAFFU
    3. #gisbornegun Lachie Neale 177
    2. #bouncebackboy Kane Lambert 140
    1. #iloveperth Michael Walters 120

    Big Tap
Witts 70 defeated by Goldstein 114

In all seriousness, the Blowflys could be a serious threat again this year. However, some of the top-end players for Korumburra are getting a bit long in the tooth, so that premiership window may be closing. For @Mick's men, it may simply be a case of make the top 8 and hope for the aforementioned chaos. They have another in-form team in the Bulls to contend with next week, but scoring 1300+ should leave them in good stead for more wins. For the Grenades, it's nice to win, but would be nicer to see Laird score some damn points. It's Hughenden next week, so watch out, cause it could all come crashing down or the lid could well and truly be off.

I hope that report was slightly interesting
    Signing off,
    Your Faithful, Friendly Author

    Match report from Pakenham

    Banchang 1365 def Pakenham 1081

A rampant Barcrawlers came to town and totally wiped the Parasites off the park. The home team was never really in it. Impressive team performance from Banchang with Higgins 133 Robinson 131 and Cunnington 118 being the stand outs. Solid scores from C.Sinclair 109 Dahlhaus 105 Suckling 101 and Adams 97 all contributed to a good score. Former Parasites Higgins and Sinclair showed the home fans what they missed out on. A great effort all around.
Pakenham had a couple of players doing something Sidebum 132 R.Marshall 111 and Gaff 103 but other then that nothing great at all. Selection dramas was a big issue this week with Cerra and Hipwood and Weideman all playing well in the twos whilst others selected did nothing.
Another disappointing week for the Parasites. Looking along way from winning at this stage.

Nuytsland Vikings 1349 vs Pearcedale Panthers 1162 @TigersTooTough

Odin's Graveyard claimed there first victim of the season with a dominant display in front of the home crowd. With the midfield still to click into gear missing TMitch unlikely hero's stood up and Heeney bounced back after a poor two rounds, the difference was 3 huge tons and some consistency of scoring across the ground

    Vikings best
Matt Crouch (118): Playing inside midfield Crouch contributed with 27 possessions, 2 marks, 6 tackles and booted 1.0.
Isaac Heeney (136): Coming off a wing Heeney contributed with 26 possessions, 8 marks, 2 tackles and managed 4.1.
Dane Rampe (101): In defence Rampe contributed with 20 possessions, 5 marks and 3 tackles.
Darcy Tucker (110): Playing an outside game Tucker added 21 touches and 4 tackles.
Jeremy Finlayson (109): Starting in attack Finlayson contributed with 15 possessions, 5 grabs, 2 tackles and booted 5.1.
Brodie Grundy (132): First ruck…Grundy contributed with 22 disposals, 4 grabs, 5 tackles and 40 ruck taps.

    Panthers best
Lachie Hunter (111): Playing a half forward roleHunter added 27 touches and 8 marks.
Jeremy Howe (103): Copped some sore ribs from friendly fire in a marking contest mid Q3… 21 possessions including 18 kicks… also 7 marks

    Big Tap Grundy

    3 Heeney
    2 Grundy
    1 Crouch

Up next a tough road trip to Ararat a team we have never beaten.

sorry BF, been a shit week mate and flat knacker. punching this out now on a wednesday (that feels like a sunday ive been reamed so hard) and my regular successes (questionable) at being humorous will be falling flatter than.... the ground. yep vindication of my shitness. All eloquence has departed. Anyway, to the report!

@Batfink and the Prairie Dogs came barking down to Armadillo country but couldnt come away with the chocolates.

Final Score AA 1333 vs HPD 1081

The Peoples beard returned to some form, too bad about the other 21 for the Demons though, with a 126 however the Armadillo backline was the talk of the town. 101, 108, 88 and 156 was needed to overcome the pathetic excuse for a forward line. Match selection will again be dictated by injury, but Matho & TMac need to put last year behind them and get out of first gear!

For the visitors it was a case of too little by too many. Every line had a dud - McKenzie with 58 in the backs, Atkins with 33 in the mids, Greenwood OOP 13 in the rucks (looking at you Archie - where were you!), plus Morrison & Rayner in the forwards with 40 + 45 respectively.
Even rookie Duuuuursma managed a 66 from the interchange which would surely have embarrassed the veterans on the ground.
Stickers Membrey had a ripper, saluting with triple figures, and Breust had a fair dinkum crack to top score for the PDogs with 107, but after that it was solid without being spectacular

Southern Cross Sandgropers (1262/15/84) def @JPK ‘s Coolgardie Prospectors (1018/15/72)

Nugget Cup VI was definitely not a classic; neither side reached any great heights. In the end, Southern Cross ran out 244 point winners by being a bit less shit than Coolgardie. Four tons from Milera, Duncan, Crouch & Smith versus zero from Coolgardie pretty much tells the story; nothing special, just a so-so game both skills and scoring wise. It was however, a typically bruising encounter with both teams losing a defender to lengthy injury with Short going down early for Coolgardie and Mcveigh following suit late in the match.

The home side won every zone on the field with Milera playing another strong game in defence and Mumford coming off the interchange and contributing on debut. For the visitors, BT’s favourite (I can’t even bear to type it) Fantasia led the way up forward and Sicily played well in defence even with extra attention from the umps.

Both sides now sit 2 & 1 after the first three rounds with the Sandgropers in 7th and the Prospectors in 9th.
