Early reports have the Grenades setting a record score for the club in a smashing of the 'Gropers, 1476 to 1289. Southern Cross have pumped out some big scores but are going to go into the final pre-bye round at 5-5!

Too many poor performances from the Cuda's especially off the interchange of Burgoyne & Naughton.
Well done @choppers big Reid smashing it for the Barcrawlers.

The Blowflys were too strong at the Terrordome again this week, defeating the Bunyips 1334 v 1195

That makes it 6 in a row for the Flys which moves them up into 5th place. They travel to Pearcedale to take on the 4th placed Panthers next round.

The Bunyips (15th) were on a 3 game win streak of their own before it was snapped by the Blowflys. They’ll be looking to start a new one as they travel to Coolgardie to face the Prospectors (13th).

The weekends matchup between the Armadillos and the Prospectors saw some of Ararat's finest come out and spark the boys into action.
JPK went with the carrot rather than the stick and the results speak for themselves; carrots dont cut it in the fattest town around, so the final scores were AA 1358 vs CP 1014.

Coolgardie fans have every right to be disappointed with their team, as no less than 8 players performed below their season averages. Special dishonourable mentions to Stefan Martin (52), Jaeger Omeara (76) and Jamie Macmillan (45).
The lesser-lights battled manfully however and Aliir had two fat ladies, first gamer CCJ managed a 30 and Callum Brown performed well for his 97.
The home side continued their strong backline player with the exception of Hardwicks 57. He will no doubt be looking over his shoulder with Luke McDonald making somewhat of a scoring comeback.
Speaking of comebacks, the Peoples Beard busted out of his mediocrity and snaffled a 149 if you dont mind. This energised some of the veterans on the squad and spurred Edwards on to a 125. Unfortunately 1st FU gamer Fort couldnt back up his ton in the twos and scrambled his way to a 51.
Highlight for this writer was the battle of the previous trades: Former Prospector Harry Perryman torched his old side with 98 while Armadillos discard Dumont clawed his way to 71.

Gisborne Grenades 1476 defeated Southern Cross Sandgropers 1289 @eagle_eyed

The marquee matchup in the FU for Round 10 didn't fail to disappoint. The previous week had seen the Grenades first loss since round 1, while the Sandgropers continue to draw the short straw and lose games with high scores with a score above 1400 not being enough to eclipse Ararat. Both teams were out for redemption and looking to head into the mid-season break with some wins on their side.

For the Grenades, it was a case of the usual suspects smashing out big scores. Neale, Laird, Billings and Fiorini all tonned... wait... did the Grenades really just score 1476 without Neale hitting 100?! This week, it was more a case of the unusual suspects. Hore (116) and Wilson (121) held together the defence nicely, with Wilson appearing to finally find some form after barely touching it in the first 8 weeks. Ellis-Yolmen (134) had one of his career best games, reminding the fans why the Grenades gave up two first round picks for him. Big Witts (109) decided to break out of his 80-95 score pattern, and Gresh (114) rediscovered some of that early season form. Kelly (140) led every player on the ground and continues to avoid the second-year blues.

Southern Cross were the highest scoring team from ORFFU 2018 and you can definitely see why. It was a mostly down week across the board but they still nearly managed 1300. In fact, 1289 was higher than the winning score in 5 of the other Round 10 ORFFU games, so it fair to blame the fixturing committee - I believe only @JPK is responsible and should be punished on the 'Gropers behalf.

The defence for Spencer Street was solid without being spectacular. The midfield was dominant, scoring 441 points and showing the Grenades brigade how it should be done. Fyfe (126), Duncan (123) and Prestia (112) led the way in the guts, and while Crouch was disappointing they were still pushing the case for the best midfield in the comp. Ryder continues his worrying season, struggling to take marks and win ruck contests in general. The forwards performed to around their averages. Darling pumped out 104, reminding selectors of his capabilities despite a down year. The battle of the interchanges was set to be an interesting one, with the old hands Mumford and Selwood trying to make an impact off the pine. Both had slightly low weeks and actually lost to Gisborne's younger benchwarmers.

In the end, a lack of large scores hurt the Gropers here, but in reality they were never really close. They now make the international trip to Africa to take on the Buff, but early reports suggest Ryder may be headed to China instead! They'll be hoping to break the 3 win L streak. Based on the strength of the team, SCS are definitely a team to watch. They should make the 8 at this stage without being in top form, and if they hit it, who knows how far they will go.

Cow Bay 1,257 def Eden 1,134
An enthusiastic home crowd turned up to support to boys in green and grey in their quest for having their first season with a winning record better than 50%. The chant and jeers seemed to do the trick with the Crocs running out 123 point winners this weekend and sending the Whalers back home with their harpoons in tow.

With no real ruckman to compete against, Cow Bay's Ceglar (87) took out the Big Tap against Jordan Murdoch (44). The tap outs went Cow Bay's way with Libba (110) and Taranto (132) bursting out of the centre square at will. The real Gunston (144) turned up this round while the realer Acres (102) also showed up to provide some support. One of the few negatives was Bolton's crash back down to Earth with a paltry 45 points. However, O'Riordan took home the worst on ground (no I'm not going to abbreviate that) award for the home wide with a 37. McGrath's 92 was the only above average effort down back with the other defenders just strolling around the boundary line signing autographs rather than focussing on the match.

Seeing the disadvantage, Pendles (146) tried to lift the team and provide some drive for the Whalers. Curnow (102) got the message but the other mids couldn't pull it together. With an under seige backline Andrews (118) ran around like a headless chook while Crisp (99) ran around like a chook without a head. The forwards didn't see enough of the ball with McKernan (71) and McStay (70) being the only 2 to provide some avenue to goal. Scully (88) provided a decent set of fresh legs off the bench but it wasn't enough to get the visitors over the line.

The win gives Cow Bay a 6-4 record and moves them to 8th, whereas Eden sit at 1-9 in 17th spot.

Next week Eden host 16th placed Christmas Island while Cow Bay travel to the home ground of 9th placed Groote.

Sorry for not having too many updates @martyg

6/9th through in Coolgardie, and the hosts have a huge but misleading 350 point lead.

    Coolgardie: 790 / 11 / 71.8
    Blanchetown: 440 / 6 / 73.3

This one probably won't come down to the wire, as the 'Yips midfield, 3/4's of which hasn't yet turned up, will likely run all over the home side in the final stanza.

It's hard enough as it is, to put a decent score together, without having 126 knocked off your total. ;););)
I have Banchang at 12/1166. I think maybe you've missed Lyons or Higgins' score.
I also have Nuytsland at 9/869 but that might just be a scaling difference.

Update from the Dino Dome sees the home side with a narrow lead and a lot of action to come in the final 3/9ths of this game.
