Man, what a game, with the shortened quarters there just wasn't enough time for the Cuda's to pull off a win over the top of the ladder team @Mick
Excitement levels were high down in The Crater with 20 players to choose from at selection, including a fit ruckmen and the home team didn't disappoint. Having narrowly avoided getting caught up in COVID-ravaged Victoria after last weeks battle with Korrumburra, the Buffaloes were happy to welcome a healthy WA team and focus on winning a game of football. Charlie Dixon (165) took full advantage of the warmer climate and gave a middle finger to management along the way who had tried desperately to ship him away during the off season. Captain Danger (140) and Kelly (120) returned to form inspiring young Jordan Ridley (134) to a career best performance. Serengeti didn't have it all their own way however with Prospectors Gibbons (115), Sicily (114) & Miller (111) putting up a solid fight but with equal amounts of failures it was that difference in top end performance that eventually got Serengeti across the line. Final scores Serengeti 1314 def Coolgardie 1176 BAFFU votes 3 Charlie Dixon 165 (SB) 2 Patrick Dangerfield 140 (SB) 1 Jordan Ridley 134 (SB) Unfortunately it wasn't all party time for the home supporters with Sam Naismith going down with yet another knee injury and the dreams of having a playing ruckmen going down with him. He did his job on the day and secured another win to finish the season as an undefeated Big Tap ruckmen but it is looking likely that his short lived career as a Buffalo has come to an end. The Buffaloes have a week at home to regroup and come up with a new ruck plan as they host the also injury affected Armadillos in round 5 while Coolgardie will head back to WA as they host the Crocs of Cow Bay. @JPK
Fluke win but we'll take it. Cunnington would have won it for you. Also nice to see Lyons getting some good form, he didn't do much in the Red and White.
Round 5 update from The Stadium sees the visiting Blowflies take the lead with Jack Steele 136, scoring all the points, while the 12 available Barcrawlers are still sitting in the sheds trying to find another 3 players to help out.
Slow start at the Sandpit as the Sandgropers (138/2/69) lead @tyze1 ‘s Bulls (38/1/38) by 100 points. Things weren’t looking great for Southern Cross when Hannebery came off early with a tight hammy, but his score of 49 was offset by B.Hill’s 38. More to come. Go ‘Gropers!
Progress score from The Stadium and not a lot has happened since the last update. Korumburra increased their score to 2/179, while Banchang had Adams 103 ton up, and Hibberd play forward(oop) and posted 20 while Cameron didn't show up, leaving Banchang at 3/123. @Mick
For the first game in Gisborne since March, Grenades are sitting at 397/5/79.4 ahead of the Parasites on 335/4/83.8. Neither team has really got going this season and both are looking for a win this week to jumpstart their scoring engines @ddsaints
Cow Bay 1106 def by Southern Cross 1259 Maybe it's finals hangover, or Taranto's shoulders, but something has gone wrong at Cow Bay this year suffering another loss this time a 153 point defeat to the Gropers. Ceglar (86) didn't reach the heights of last week but he combined well with Worpel (133) who put in a BOG performance for the home side. Jones (45) tripped over his shoelaces and was in the medical room after quarter time with Libba (78) and Ah Chee (68) coming off the bench trying to replicate Jones' 2020 form with little success. The trouble in the midfield meant the forwards saw little of the ball. Bolton (80) battled hard and Martin (56) crashed back to earth after his stellar performance last week but couldn't trouble the visiting defenders. At the other end of the ground, SPS (82), Wilkie (73), Noble (72) and Scrimshaw (71) had plenty of opportunities to force turnovers and set up play from behind the centre square but just weren't able to pull it together. Mummy (36) was destroyed in the ruck but it didn't stop Duncan (120) and Selwood (104) from gathering hit outs and driving the ball inside 50 with Ebert (107) the main target. Crouch (102) helped out well off the bench and youngster Stephenson (73) showed flashes of brilliance. Docherty (185) put in a man of the match performance, gathering the ball all over the ground, forcing turnovers, setting up goals and just generally being a nuisance for the home side. Big Tap Ceglar (86) def Mumford (36) BAFFU 3 Docherty, SCS, 185 2 Worpel, COW, 133 1 Duncan, SCS, 120 The loss sees the Crocs drop out of the top 8 and into 10th whereas Southern Cross kept pace with the top teams, remaining undefeated thus far. @eagle_eyed PS Apologies for the delayed report
High scoring start to an important contest at The Crater Serengeti 303/3/101 Ararat 119/1/119 @insider
The Barracudas are sitting on 1,027/12 85.6 to the Vikings @bryzza on 645/8 80.6 It will be an interesting last session, points on the board for the home team and plenty of players to come for the visitors.
At The Stadium, the visiting 1st placed Blowflys are just toying with their opposition and lead the Barcrawlers 10/914 /91.4 to 13/816/62.8. Goldstein in the ruck for the Blowies absolutely destroyed Banchang's Lycett 137-62 and was ably supported off the bench by the very underrated Menegola with 116. The only 2 shining lights for Banchang were Lyons 124 in the middle, and Greenwood up front with 132. Even at this early stage of the comp, it's hard to see Korumburra being knocked off their perch. @Mick
High drama down in The Crater with young stars Bailey Smith and Matt Rowell taking each other out of the contest in the first minutes of the game in a fight over who had the worst hair. It has left both teams reeling but Ararat have recovered stronger to look likely winners. Serengeti 916/12/76 Ararat 770/9/86 @insider
Keays battling hard against Gawn in the ruck but its looking more and more unlikely for the Buffaloes Serengeti 1030/13/79 Ararat 1111/12/93 @insider
Final score from The Stadium sees ladder leaders Korumburra complete a comprehensive 199pt win over a depleted Banchang side 1200-1001. BOG. 3. Goldstein (KB) 137 2. Steele (KB)136 1. Greenwood (BB) 132 Goldstein (KB) also won the Big Tap over Lycett (BB) 137-62 Korumburra now head to Nth Qld to take on Cow Bay while Banchang are away to Pearcedale. @Mick
Word from Southern Cross is that @tyze1 ‘s Bulls (1288/15/86) have defeated a ruckless Sandgropers outfit (1183/14/84) by 105 points. Leaving Mumford out cost the home side 92 points, not enough to make a difference in this match, and hopefully not enough to make a difference overall. Match report to follow...
The Barracudas finished up on 1162/14.5 77.4 getting defeated by @bryzza Vikings on 1313/15 87.5 It appears the Vikings give no regard to what's on the board as they smashed 5 out of 7 tons to finish the match clear winners.
If I can still do maths properly, then its a tight one, but not worth talking about due to some serious mediocrity. Coolgardie 1,144 / 15 / 76.3 Cow Bay 1,105 / 15 (14) / 73.7 That's a 39 point victory to the home team. @fresh Top score J Bruce, Cow Bay, 138 points. Bottom score C Ah Chee, Cow Bay 28 points (and a J Patton donut).
