I'll put up a mid-season BAFFU report in the coming weeks. The delay can be blamed on @insider and @eagle_eyed having a 3-way tie for 1 vote...

@JPK I think the rules need to be updated to reflect the change from 4 picks to 4 list changes. We need to ensure all coaches understand the “season” in which we have to make 4 list changes starts after the final siren in round 17 and then goes through until the delistment period of the following MSD.

Yeah, can do. This particular Mid Season is not effected - it forms the baseline for the first "round" of the new list change rules.
Point taken though, and can do.

The next big question is: what do we want to do with the upcoming multi-byes?

    https://www.afl.com.au/news/468187/...out-the-next-four-rounds-of-the-afl-s-fixture

Round 8 is still good this weekend

Round 9 (Wednesday 29th to Sunday 2nd) has no byes, so we're ok, but team turn-around will need to be quick.

Round 10 (Monday 3rd to Friday 7th) we're missing Fremantle, West Coast, Hawthorn, Carlton. This will effect some teams greatly, and other teams by nearly-nothing. Once again, a quick turn-around before the next round.

Round 11 (Saturday 8th to Wednesday 12th) we're missing Greater Western Sydney, Sydney. Again the effect on teams will vary. Again, only a 1-day turn-around before the next round.

Round 12 (Thursday 13th to Monday 17th) no bye teams.

Sometime in the future we'll be missing the remaining 10 teams.

Will it be too late to wait and see what SC do?
    • YTD Averages?
    • Best of X players?
    • Tough!?!?!

    Whatever is the cleanest option.
Either averages at a fixed point (ie averages as at rd 7 apply for the next 5 rounds if team has a bye) or FU teams will just have to wear the outs because every AFL team will have a bye sooner or later.

@JPK Might want to check with the Boss @walesy because I reckon like the Essendon & Melbourne game we will get exactly the same as the other leagues.

That’s it. Season average at the time. Cleanest and easiest.

Admittedly this is coming from a slightly bitter angle at having to cop GC & Port bye players the last couple of years but does that set a precedent for how we deal with these rounds for 2020? Because it's a known thing beforehand this time we just have to plan around it? Haven't actually looked at how many teams have a bye each week but if it is 2-4ish I think we go with that..

Think there are only 2 legit options

Cop the byes - we have squads of 26
    YTD Averages provided not injured

Also 100% agree with YAD need to be considerate of what the big boss can do given 24 hours between end of rounds and all the work he needs to do to keep us all rolling

Yeah, I'll have a word with Walesy to see what is possible.

I'm personally against averages, simply because if you don't play you don't score.

    More specifically:
Look at Lachie Neale last week - was averaging 150 points going into the game, only scored 87 points!
Look at whoever Matt Deboer is facing each week, and watch his output drop for a game.
Look at Jack Ziebell last week, came back after a small injury, averaging 56, and scores a donut.
Look at Marlion Pickett last week, averaging 61 going into the game, scores 105 points.

We have squads of 28 (you can do yourself out of a couple of you want to @tyze1 ) and will have just completed the mid-season period, so everyone has a chance to top up their teams with scoring players. Either you have coverage or you take the hit - that's my personal opinion.

If a player doesn't play, he doesn't score, is my vote.

I agree with this. We have squads large enough to cover these matches. If coaches want to hoard non-playing kids (not directed at anyone) at the detriment of scoring then that's their choice. If another coach has drafted depth to cover injury/suspension/byes then they should not be disadvantaged because someone else is employing a different strategy. I feel no averages, use the players we have available.

    Pardon for the intrusion
I believe as a community we need to suck this shit up and roll with the same team structure each round, copping byes as if injured.

@walesy is going to have a mountain of work to do just getting rollovers at the end of each round ready in time for us to be able to name sides for the very next day.

He will not have time to cock around with reduced sides, moving fixtures etc, inserting averages is reasonably simple but still takes work and as these examples show it's just a different version of a crap outcome.

    Save @walesy
