Thanks @ki guy just floating an alternate scenario where we have an additional 24 hours until mid-day Friday and an earlier cutoff (the original mid-day Thursday) for Gold Coast and Bulldogs players. I appreciate it is not how we usually do things but drafting and trading in a 3 day rather than 3 week window has been tough for the sides which are bottoming out and looking to extract some value.

I have had some private conversations that support it but appreciate we don't have time for debate - it needs to be a Yay or Nay and then (as always) we respect the ump's decision and move forward.

Something else to consider for the Board is that in the absence of any formalised decision on the season structure pre-season I assume we were comfortable that proposed models such as 15+2 (top 4) season, or an alternative shorter home and away plus longer finals would be decided later.

I think now is later (or needs to be). Meaning it would be good to know whether we plan to have a top 4, 6, 8 or 10 or whatever bloody number is decided and how long finals will be assuming there actually will be finals. The 17 rounds of 9 games scenario assumed in a 15+2 (or alternative) is now 18 games of 7-9 games as far as we know and is subject to change.

In my view the extra week is key provided that Rounds 16-18 are bye free and thus provide an even playing field for all teams. If so then it support a 15+3 model (playing through the byes) which could be top 6 or top 8 depending on whether there needs to be advantage provided to the top sides. Both are far superior to a top 4 in my view as it decides the premiership head to head onfield rather than by the lottery of the fixture and ladder. I won't try to argue 14+4 or 13+5 (top 10) but there is no shortage of options.

If we are playing through the byes with 15 on the park, or take a best 13 approach it would be good to know. If we are going to combine Rounds 10 and 11 and any bye rounds and run a season of 17 rounds or less it would be good to know. If we are going to take an average or best score from players with 2 matches in a combined week, or just skip Rounds 10 and 11 altogether it would be good to know.

I understand that it is entirely possible that the AFL spring a surprise again and the ORFFF have to change tack. No sweat if it happens. I just think that a quick but considered decision on the fixture and bye round approach would be beneficial for all participants and it does have consequences for teams trading intentions irrespective of whether the current window is extended.
