At 8/9ths time in the Goldfields and its as good as over... @YAD69 The only chance the Prospectors have is if T Dumont and N Larkey can score more than 200 points each - so thats a 50-possession and 100% efficiency game from Dumont, and 10 goals from Larkey (seeing as C Brown isn't playing), and S Atley and T Phillips both score some negative points. Short of this happening, its a resounding win by the Barracudas.
Full time at the Goldfields, and it was an entertaining one. Coolgardie fans got their last-quarter wish as T Dumont brought his own ball and scored nearly 300 points in an ORFFU record that will stand the test of time. N Larkey kicked the 10 goals that everyone was hoping to see, and even the absence of C Brown (and both H Clark and R Clarke earlier in the match) wasn't a big enough hindrance as the home-town Prospectors came storming home to beat the visiting Groote Eylandt Barracudas by only a couple of points, in what can only be described as the biggest choke in history @YAD69 Unfortunately none of that was true, and even though the Barracudas had a shocking final stanza, they still romped home to a 450-odd point win. There has been some conjecture as to who took the field for the visitors, with some players reportedly wearing the jumpers of their teammates during the match, but none of this effected the outcome of the game. The votes: 3 - Cameron Guthrie, Groote Eylandt, 143 2 - Rhys Stanley, Groote Eylandt, 140 1 - Michael Gibbons, Coolgardie, 138 The ruck battle, which was a non-event, saw Rhys Stanley belt Oscar McInerney by 81 points, 140 to 59. Up next sees the Prospectors welcome the Vikings from the south coast of WA (no quarantine issues for this game), while Groote Eylandt are off on the long ORFFU "road trip" to Serengeti to face the Buffalos. Good luck to all four teams.
Bulls Crocs Review @fresh Round 13 saw the 8th placed Crocs travel to Mill Park to play the 10th place Bulls in a symbolic clash to remain in the mix for a top 8 finish. A paperwork mix up at the VIC / NSW Border Crossing saw Crocs forward Jack Gunston detained for questioning which ultimately saw him miss the clash. This oversite saw the numbers fall the Bulls way and in the end achieve a comfortable 1291 - 1145 victory and for the first time in 2020 string back to back wins. The game had its stars Martin (144) and Bolton (131) both shone in the Indigenous Round however only Libba and Jones could ably support these classy Mid Fwds and its was 7 sub 65 scores which put paid to the Crocs chances of taking the points. For Bulls it was the veterans which stood tall with McEvoy (147) leading the way with Mundy (131) and 100 gamer Rockliff (126) the leading lights. Maynard, McCluggage and Whitfield all raised the bat. The Bulls weren't immune from some scoring and as often has been the case it was the forward line which stunk it up as Hayward and Hill both went sub 35! All in all an entertaining clash as the Bulls continue to haunt the Crocs in taking a 7-0 H@H lead. Next week sees the Bulls take on the Smugglers whilst the Crocs host the P Dogs. Votes 3. McEvoy - off the bench 147 2. Martin 144 1 Maynard 136 Big Tap Lobb d Patton 55 - 52
What can be said about this game between last year's premiers and the most recent biggest loser? Half the teams protested the squalid hub conditions and went to the pub instead. In spine tingling cohesiveness not seen since protesters defied public health advice to gather en masse to protest..... wait, what were they protesting again? Im sure they all knew what it was... police brutality in america you say? even though this is australia.... yep, got it. makes perfect sense. ANYWAY back on track, 4 Grenades and 2 Armadillos walked into a bar. That's as far as i got with the joke. lockdown is impinging on my ability to be creative. Ok last digression, i promise! In short, Laird's move into the midfield (120) was sadly the only bright spark for the visiting Gisborne. No other hundreds in sight and Neale (72) + Kelly (66) were uncharacteristically quiet. The home team had no recognised ruckman but first year tyro Bytel had a crack, scoring 26 of the finest points out of position. Forward line terrible (228 combined), interchange rubbish (130), the Armadillos were dragged across the line by 3/4ers of the backline. Ryan (142), Stewart (117) and McDonald (144) overcame the GGs spiritual leader in Liam Jones (88) and led the home side to victory. AA 1242 defeat GG 850 @Tomster
Thanks mate, Ararat too strong in the end. For a short season it's beginning to feel like an eternity down in Gisborne
In a match that would probably mean one team would be done for the year while the winner would keep their 2020 title hopes alive, both clubs came to the plate and delivered an absorbing contest. There were high scores everywhere with 15 ton's across the ground, topped by Zac Merrett (143), Will Setterfield (141) & Josh Kelly (139). Questions were directed to both coaches after the game with another two potential century scorers (S P-P, 119 & Newnes 106) being left at home due to costs associated with quarantine restrictions. Unfortunately for the visitors they had just a couple too many passengers with some younger stars unable to perform under the compressed fixture of events while the only real disappointment for the home town heroes was the late efforts of Jamie Elliott (48) who prevented the team from reaching the magical 1500 mark. Despite a 139 point margin in the end that had Serengeti 1494 defeating Pakenham 1355, this was a hard fought contest worthy of two teams fighting to keep their respective season's alive. @ddsaints
Hot start down in The Crater with both teams putting in the effort to get an early jump Serengeti 498/5/100 v Groote Eyelandt 330/3/110 @YAD69
Low scoring affair at the Sandpit, with the home side (482/7/69) leading @HOLKY ‘s Whalers (387/6/65) by 95 points. Not a lot for the fans of either side to cheer about, with any decent performances we’ll and truly cancelled out by an equal amount of sub par efforts. Still a fair way to go in this one, a match where the winner is rewarded with a lesser draft pick. Go ‘Gropers???
At 5/8th time in the Goldfields and the bloodbath between Coolgardie and Nuytsland isn't as big as it could have been, but there's still plenty of time for that to be rectified @bryzza
A monumental contest befitting a fight to survive in the 2020 race for glory is unfolding in The Crater. Serengeti 1416/15/94 v Groote Eyelandt 1037/10/104 High quality football being played out with the only questions left unanswered whether Atley, Weitering, Cripps, Phillips & Mihoceck are playing at the same standard as the rest of the combatants @YAD69
Cow Bay currently leads the visiting PDawgs by 114 points Crocs: 1,115 / 12 / 92.9 PDawgs: 1,001 / 13 / 77.0 Still to come Crocs: SPS, Martin, Rankine PDawgs: Mayne, Rayner @Batfink
Gisborne are 326/4 but only have 4 left to play. Pearcedale are 882/11 and have 2 players left. This game was over before it started
After realising Rayner has the bye this round Ash's 68 comes into play. Anyway, PDawgs all out for 1,129 while the Crocs are currently 1,267 with Rankine still kicking goals @Batfink
Early reports filtering out of Serengeti have the Barracudas prevailing in an epic Serengeti 1416 v Groote Eyelandt 1488 @YAD69
What an awesome match, such high quality scoring, very tight all the way to the finish cheers @wrightbrendan
In the end it was an easy win to the visiting Nuytsland Vikings @bryzza with the home-town hero's failing to get over the 1,000 point mark. The votes: 3 - Ollie Wines, Coolgardie, 133 2 - Christian Petracca, Nuytsland, 127 1 - Brodie Grundy, Nuytsland, 127 (tie-breaker awarded to the forward, because we all know rucks are overrated in SC scoring). The big tap was another non-event for the Prospectors, without a recognised ruckman, stand-in A Aliir (half of 82 down to 41 points) was absolutely belted by the visitors' B Grundy (127 points) by 86 points. Up next sees the Prospectors head over to the COVID hotbed of the NSW-Victoria border for a shot of whaling against the boys in Eden. The Vikings head south to the coast, to roll out the red carpet for the Monarchs of King Island fame. Good luck to all four teams.
@YAD69 ’Cudas on a serious run at the moment. Close to/if not, the highest scoring team the last three weeks. Still three games to go to win it all (again ), have you timed your run correctly?
@eagle_eyed have been very lucky with the way the boys have been playing, especially in the last 3 weeks, however with round 15 byes upon us it will make for some very interesting scores from teams this week including the Cuda's.
