@HornsyFiveTime - are afl players taken in a supplementary draft eligible to be drafted in ORFFL? Don't have an opinion either way but I feel a ruling coming on
I think those that were available at the start of the draft should be included. Others drafted during the draft will be available for MSD
Aha, we have precedent! Sorry it's not in the rules in the OP, but this has come up before. You can draft any person you wish to as long as they have not already been drafted to another team. You could draft yourself if you so wanted to @graeme. Like all prospective draftees you have to weigh up their scoring potential vs how often will they actually play.
Actually scratch that. You can't place dibs on a player that does not yet belong to an AFL list and/or a registered AFL player. This is in reference to the 2012 ruling of no baggsies on Martin/Hogan who while at the time had been mini-drafted to GCS and MEL at the time but were not eligible to play as 17yo's that year.
So if they're eligible to play for an AFL team at R1 this year, then yes. Which means they have to be on an AFL list at the time of drafting and eligible to play in season 2021.
But if a player was to be picked up under the supplementary draft today (for example Kade Simpson) you are saying he would be eligible to be drafted by the next lucky coach who had a live selection?
I am confused - does a player have to be on a list at the start of the ORFFL draft, or are those players taken in a supplementary afl draft during an ORFFL draft eligible? Put simply: is Gumby's pick of Paul Hunter STK valid or invalid?
Paul Hunter was signed up on 19 Feb, well before the ORFFL draft started.. I’d be more interested in the Alec Waterman scenario
Paul Hunter is fine as of @stripey reasoning above. As to @stripey hypothetical, I'm happy with whatever people think is the fairest outcome...which appears at this stage to be a no (given that not everyone has had an equal opportunity to pick them from the start of the draft)?
Rhys Mathieson the next autopick M/F He is absolutely killing it as he does every preseason but unlikely to get many opportunities in a strong Lions line up
Apologies for not being around for my pick, but life happened. Nicky had a very bad epileptic episode last night around half eight sa time, had to call an ambulance and ended up in A&E all night and didn't get home until around half 11 this morning - phone battery died during the night, so couldn't even text anyone with any provisions. By the time I got Nicky settled at home in bed, I made a much needed cuppa and ended up crashing on the couch until 10 minutes ago
