In a miracle win, a 14 man Croc outfit held off a fast finishing stampede of Bulls to win by 21 points (subject to checking) out at Cow Bay.

    Crocs: 1132 / 15 / 75.5
    Bulls: 1,111 / 15 / 74.1

    Match report to come.

Final result from the Horsham V Ararat match with the Armadillos taking a comfortable 184 point win (1220 vs 1036), but the match was effectively decided by a depleted Horsham squad playing three short.

Centuries to Gawn, Rich, Higgins, Snelling and Ryan helped to offset sub 50 scores from Greaves, Bytel, Treloar and Rozee for Ararat and made sure they were never really in danger of losing this match. For Horsham, Seedsman continued his terrific season, whilst Laird and T Kelly did what they get paid to do (carry this squad).

On the injury front, the Armadillos have likely lost Treloar for many weeks.

    BAFFU
    3 votes - P Seedsman (HG)
    2 votes - M Gawn (AA)
    1 vote - R Laird (HG)

    Big Tap
Gawn (AA) defeated Campbell (HG) 124 to 73

Next round, the Armadillos are away to Banchang, meanwhile Horsham are away at Pearcedale.

Groote Eylandt Barracudas 1,319 defeated the Prospectors 1,119

The Barracudas on a high from a win in Armadilloland, the visitors @JPK come to Groote with a sneaky win over the Parasites.
The Cuda’s got out to a very solid start, Weitering locked down role on Waterman who ran out of puff, Atley was nice with the run and carry off half back Lloyd stared on the half back, plenty of kick ins and junk time in the final term and Houli was very solid with 27 possessions, experience was key taking out Gibbons who kick one and Larkey who suffered a cork in the left thigh early :( Weightman though was a breath of fresh air, his work rate was great, the young gun got a couple of frees and a couple of goals.

At the centre bounces Ryder stood tall all day and smashed the hit outs up against McInerney had plenty of hit outs, unfortunately not to advantage. Where all the action happens, in the centre, it was fierce, for the visitors Miller was on fire, great inside mid work with 30 touches, Wines starred for his team, bagged 1, leading from the outset, Parfitt had lots of run, rotating through the forward line and Jaeger bomb back to laying more tackles. The home side, Graham dug deep but couldn't find form, a better game from Corn Boy, more touches, dishing it out to advantage, Guthrie was very solid, played with heart after a left shoulder knock by Miller and leading the Cuda’s the Bont, was an absolute star, not only had 26 possessions but bagged 4 goals as well.

Cripps of the Jamie variety slotted 2 but was well held by Aliir Aliirwho had plenty of run and assisted in the hit outs, Naughton had a terrific third term snagging 3 of his 5 goals while fending off Clarke who suffered soreness early in the third term plus gave 3 frees away. Tomahawk bagged 2 for the match and assisted in the hit outs and out muscling out Astbury. Short was a little slow off the mark, trying to keep up with Zorko who rotated through the mid chipping in with a goal.

Off the inter-charge the locals had Riewoldt who kicked the first goal among 3 for the match, McLean was incredibly quiet, with Serong and Dumont doing some good things for the diggers.

The Cuda’s with their home ground advantage and soring confidence from their past wins dismantling the Prospectors sending them packing with nothing but dust and pain.

The Prospectors will stay on the road heading to Nuytsland needing to regroup to take on the Vikings while the Barracuda’s will consolidate at home hosting the inform Buffalos.

Great work @YAD69 Thanks for a good weekend of fishing, even if we weren't successful.

...and you've got to love Aliir Aliir. Like Wagga Wagga, so good they had to name him twice!

Cow Bay 1,132 def Staghorn Flat 1,111
Cow Bay recorded their 4th win of the season at the expense of the Bulls from the flats of Staghorn in a 21 point thriller. The Staghorn coach went home ruing a missed opportunity and remain on 3 wins for the season. The Crocs' coach went home with RSI after writing another match report for the 3rd week in a row.

Williams (52) competed well against aging workhorse McEvoy (76) to try to give the home side an advantage in the middle. It was a mighty battle in the middle with Libba (145) and McGrath (123) leading the charge out of the centre of the ground. Although Witherden and emergency SPS were still hungover from the night before, Scrimshaw (105) stepped up and filled the gap but Wilkie (39) was still feeling the effects of the night before. Up front it was only Moore (80) who provided some energy in front of the big sticks but Worpel (92) helped out off the bench.

Not to be outshone by their counterparts, McClugg (116) Mundy (102) and Brayshaw (100) competed well against their direct opponents. Whitfield (110) provided plenty of rebound from defence and had strong support from Maynard (87) and Barrass (77). Lobb (119) caused plenty of headaches for a 3 man defence. But the culprit of the day was Mahony. Needing just 38 points to give the Bulls the 4 points, seeing his teammates Hayward (28) and Ryan (24) flop didn't do much for his confidence. His 26 point effort resulting in another number in the L column of the FU ladder.

    Big Tap
Williams (52) def by McEvoy (76)

    BAFFU
    3
    Libba, Cow Bay, 145
    2 McGrath, Cow Bay, 123
    1 Lobb, Staghorn Flat, 119

The result of this round means both teams swap places on the ladder, Staghorn dropping from 11th to 12th, Cow Bay going from 12th to 11th.

Next week Staghorn host Xmas Island and Cow Bay visits Hughenden.

Round 9: Ararat vs Groote Eylandt

The Barracudas flexed their fins (??) in this encounter of ladder leaders. You could say they chomped their opposition (yeah im struggling early here) to pieces with a clinical display.
Despite being let down in the backs, with Jake Lloyd (98) the only real contributor, the mids absolutely starred. 450+ points from Guthrie, Bontempelli, Cripps and Graham was a solid foundation indeed.
Not to be left out however, the forwards went bang; Zorko (140), Hawkins (91), Naughton (98) and Cripps (114).
Locals were left to wonder what the result may have been if a true Double-McDonald versus Double-Cripps hadve taken place, but hopefully that question will be answered in the finals ; )
To add insult to injury, Hayden who the fuck is this guy Mclean also scored a career high 117, eclipsing his then-average by 66 points.

Not much to tell about the home side. An already injury-depleted squad copped two more injuries with Bowes and Perryman being medically substituted. Brayshaw (126) and single McDonald (136) battled well but it was left to too many.

Comfortable and deserving winners, the Cudas scored 1429 to 1265.

Thanks @YAD69 for your understanding and patience on the belated match report.

Progress score from The Stadium sees the visiting Armadillos get off to a good start with The Bearded One 120 and the older McDonald 90 helping them to 3/246, while the locals could only muster a concussed 1/37.

It's half time at The Stadium and the local team has clawed its way back into the game, but still trail Ararat 12/898 to 9/733.
With rumours abound that Robbo was to be de-listed in the upcoming trade period, his performance to kick 4.1 for the Barcrawlers and score 140, was a reminder "that there's life in the ole dog yet" and may have just earned him a reprieve. He was ably supported off the bench, by Cunnington 113, and Markov 103 down back, who had a much improved game after his shocker last week, whereas the visiting Armadillos seemed to have difficulty adjusting to the high humidity and struggled in the heat and could only post 2 tons with ever-reliable Stewart 119 and Ziebell 104, in his new role off a HB flank, getting the job done.
Both teams are struggling with injuries and Banchang has Doedee, Dawson, Ladhams, Gray, Mc Adams and 1/2 Jonas to peg back the 165 lead, while Ararat will be hoping that Ryan, Jones and Brayshaw can hang on and grab the 4pts.....
