Sorry @anthak that's what happends when you pick from your phone and not have your laptop open, where it shows the spreadsheet much better.
"#66 Gariwerd select Jared Polec, NMK" Delisted by the Warriors. Always puts in pre-season. I will sleep a lot easier.
Mitch blotted his copybook in a recent intra-club game. Sad to see an original cow go - pick #68 in the 2012 Inaugural draft - just hope he can get some pig-hunting in at Mount Beauty.
Starting to realise that the compulsion to now drop 6 players from an obscenely young and rebuilding side like the Nuffers is going to pose challenges when it comes to rebuilding. The ability to hold onto young players to give them extra time to develop on the list is compromised when you have to delist two extra players, you don't have many or any retirements, and you are trying to put a full team on the field to at least try to do the right thing. Do you choose players that might take a year or two to develop into senior footy - and thus need to be stashed on your playing list and have patience shown - in the knowledge that to achieve the extra delists you're going to have to either (1) not show that patience and delist these guys, or (2) compromise your team by retaining these players and instead getting rid of older players who get a game each week (and score each week and don't put up doughnuts). Maybe the answer is to draft seriously in the first four picks and then pick up disposable recyclables with the last two, and constantly cycle through them at every draft - I think I referred to it as "washing machine drafting" when I was coaching the team formerly known as Darraweit. With all the recycled players being chosen over the past 15-20 picks or so, maybe that's what these extra two delists/draft picks are going to create - constant washing machine churn. And that's of course before even thinking about the need to delist at midyear too, and perhaps trying to retain someone on your list to delist at that time so you can use a decent MSD pick on an emerging young player. Maybe the answer is to purge older players more dramatically (hard to do in a way that derives true value through trades when everyone else is also trying to get rid of players so they can take these extra draft picks) and draft players who aren't going to play now and just put them on the field, with the results being extra on-field doughnuts. Doing a Sam Presti and just selling every asset for a draft pick probably won't work either - especially if you reach a point where most of the assets you have (or are offered things for) are for promising and emerging young players who should be at the centre of a rebuild, and that you've perhaps tried to bring along with patience over a period of time. Interesting times ahead for the Nuffers with these extra delists I think ... and I guess I'm just musing a bit about what might be to come.
MSD is an opt in now It is a challenge, but the recycling of players is exactly what this comp needs... for the ones rebuilding it is tough, and I noticed some supercoach scores on the weekend that made me regret some of my trades (I'm looking at you Brodie), but if you look at the ones higher up the table, when their window does shut they have to be ruthless (Gariwerd and Foul Bay both starting to clean house) For me I have always put the longer term plan in front of the short term... I might have a shit score next week, but next year hopefully it becomes slightly less shit
Ouch! But thats probably closer to reality. A full history of mediocrity, with only five finals appearances (from 10 seasons), including only one top-4 finish.
Could be worse, you could be The Spelunkers, who started alright and then have just gone steadily south!
