Final score from The Stadium....Blanchetown 1131 def Banchang 1106. In a very lacklustre performance from both sides, where only 4 players out of 30 hit the magical 100, both Coaches wouldn't be happy with what their sides dished out today, so there's not much point in going into detail. Serengeti have run away with this one, defeating Pakenham 1389 to 1170. Match report to follow @ddsaints
Out at the Goldfields and the Prospectors have defeated the Barracudas from Groote Eylandt @YAD69 by a whole Touk. That's a 160 point win, the exact same score as the BOG. It was a ripper match, set up nicely by the visiting ruckman, R Stanley, who was handing out gems to his midfielders, who readily accepted them, with P Cripps, C Guthrie, and M Bontempelli all topping the ton, even the magnificent bench-warmer in D Zorko got in on the action when the coach gave him the chance. When local big man O McInerney did get first hands to it, the ball went straight down the throat of that man Touk, who showed a clean pair of heels to all-comers (not bad for a tagger!). With the ball inevitably making its way into the Barracuda forward line, there was high expectations of lots of goals, but the migh of the Prospector defence absolutely smothered every attacking effort, with J Short, L Duggan, and J Sicily standing up very tall in defence. Clearing the ball through reigning Brownlow Medallist O Wines sent some quality supply forwards for the locals, and D Fort made every post a winner as the only player in that half of the ground who showed any endeavour for the ball. It was great for the locals to see such a display, after the dismal performances of late. GEB coach YAD was heard after the match mumbling something about his side being tired after such a huge ANZAC-inspired effort last week, while Cool-coach JPK was overheard saying something about not even being able to tank properly, and where has this performance been all this time. The Votes: 3 - T Miller, Coolgardie, 160 2 - J Short, Coolgardie, 152 1 - P Cripps, Groote Eylandt, 138 The Giant tap was easily won by the 'Cudas R Stanley, by 25 points, 107 to 82, over the Big O. Next up sees Groote Eylandt continue their road trip, this time off to the wild plains of the Serengeti, while Coolgardie get a repeat home game, welcoming the Vikings from Nuytsland. Good luck to all four teams.
The Panthers played host to the Sandgropers this weekend, two teams sitting below 0.500 and keen for a win. Sadly for the home team it was the visitors who came out victorious 1228 to 1165. In what was a lackluster performance by both sides (very few high scores on either team) the Sandgropers' star player, Lachie Neale, rose to the occasion late in the game and smashed out a 187 thus proving the difference between the two teams. For the visitors Cumming more than made up for a subdued Docherty performance and Darcy Cameron also provided a nice cameo up forward. The home team are working on getting game time into their youngsters however most of them dissapointed this week. Onto Cincinnati!
@HOLKY Nuytsland 1342 def Eden 1032 Vikings welcomed the Whalers down at "the graveyard" who were looking to atone for last weeks shock loss in the dying moments to the sandgropers. Both teams had winners across every line but where it all fell apart for the whalers was when of there back liners pulled out at the last minute leaving them with a donut, a poor and unusual performance by papley and a move by curtis to midfield did not bear any whales. Both second rated rucks tried there best with the home teams ruck just making a slight difference to game, Vikings got the job done with an even spread of scores across the ground. Vikings: Chad Warner (105): Rotating in midfield, Warner contributed with 24 possessions, 5 grabs, 8 tackles and 0.2 on the scoreboard. Isaac Heeney (102): Most of his goals deep in Q4 junk time… 3.0 from 18 possessions and 3 marks plus 5 tackles… aided by 4FF. Starting forward. Christian Petracca (130): Starting in midfield, Petracca contributed with 31 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles and 1.1. Toby Greene (119): First goal… 4 in the first half to put the game to bed… 4.1 from 17 disposals and 7 marks… not helped by 3 FA. Playing as the deepest forward Shannon Hurn (100): Floating at half back, Hurn added 18 possessions and 7 grabs. Whalers: Kamdyn McIntosh (102): Starting on a wing, McIntosh contributed with 21 possessions, 4 grabs, booted 3.0 and 3 free kicks given away. Harris Andrews (104): In defence, Andrews contributed with 17 touches, 9 grabs and 2 tackles. Daniel McStay (103): At CHF, McStay contributed with 16 disposals, 6 grabs, 4 tackles, 2 taps, managed 3.0 and 3 free kicks given away. Jack Crisp (100): Head to head… 28 disposals and 8 marks with 5 tackles… 1.2 as well. Starting in midfield. Scott Pendlebury (112): Playing a half back role, Pendlebury contributed with 25 touches, 6 grabs and 6 tackles. 3. Petracca 2. Greene 1. R7 Match Report - Korumburra Blowflys (4th) defeated Christmas Island Smugglers (18th) 1420 - 1032 The Blowflys welcomed the Smugglers to the Terrordome this week and the locals smelled blood in the water as the "Budgies" sailed in to town. The visitors have been having a rough season so far and there was to be no pillaging in Korumburra this weekend as the Flys reinforced their top 4 status with a resounding victory. The Smugglers young big man, De Koning was up against it from the opening bounce, being handed the ruck mantle for CIS due to the injury to "Mr. Worldwide" Pittonet. The in form Blowflys behemoth Austrian / Australian Preuss (109) finally getting some continuity and consistency in his game dominated the ruck, ably supported by his old sparring partner Goldstein (125). The persistent drizzle made for some sloppy skills in this game, with stand in Captain Steele (122) and VC Dunkley (139) the stand out performers in the match doing the tough stuff on the inside and all around the ground. Smugglers hard nut Viney (91) and ex Blowfly Redden (88) stood up strong for the visitors but overall their midfield was just outmuscled and outclassed on the day. Young Jack Carroll (95) showed plenty in the curtain raiser for the Island and you'd think he has done enough to warrant a debut game in the near future. Meanwhile, big tough Greg Clark's (104) hardness and running power fitted in perfectly with the KB brand of footy, doing everything the coaches could ask of him in his long awaited debut for the home side and will now hopefully remain a fixture in the squad moving forward. Down back for KB it was Vlastuin (110) intercepting everything that came anywhere near him while somehow still shutting down the dangerous Stringer and Zurhaar and in the process retaining his current mantle as best defender in the world! Daniel (108) was clinical on the rebound, pin pointing passes despite the trying conditions. The local crowd gave out some bronx cheers but it was good to see Ex Blowfly Webster back amongst it, the stand out defender for the visitors on a tough day. Charlie Curnow (94) was a shining light in attack for CIS, kicking 3 and giving the die hard visiting fans something to cheer about. While it was the ageless all time great, Buddy Franklin (118) who dominated up forward at the other end. At one stage of the match showing that he is still literally unstoppable, kicking 4 goals in the space of 10 minutes! This season so far, he has more than "turned back the clock"... this legend of the game has asked the big question pondered by some of the deepest thinkers in the history of humanity... "does time actually exist!?" There was word amongst the local watering holes that some interesting substances had been "smuggled" in to town this weekend and by the seemingly unending energy of the Blowfly revellers still celebrating well into the next morning perhaps the rumours were true... The Smugglers now sail back to Christmas Island to face another top 8 side in the Staghorn Flat Bulls this week, while the Blowflys will jump aboard the cosmic party bus and head up the road to Pakenham to take on the Parasites. @DamoH 3 - Josh Dunkley (KB) 139 2 - Todd Goldstein (KB) 125 1 - Jack Steele (KB) 122
Round 7 Ararat vs Horsham Not much to report in this matchup, with the Huskies experiencing injury dramas left right and centre. The shining light all season for Horsham has been Witts and he definitely led from the front on the weekend with 136, but unfortunately for the visitors he was really the only player who had a crack. 25, 21, 14, 12, 8 aren’t the lotto numbers, they’re the 5 lowest scores for a decimated Huskies outfit. The home side was made to look respectable, but really it was a few big scores that hid a soft underbelly. Stewart (187) and Gawn (172) had an individual top score competition, while the rest were mostly 70s or 80s. final score AA 1298 defeat HH 774
Not a lot of time this week, apologies @ddsaints. But apart from an early scare with scores tight early, there was not too much to write home about here as a contest. Blicavs (135) & Anderson (133) were brilliant but the rest of the team were missing their Big Mate, Big Row and couldn't go with the two shining Parasite lights. There was an interesting management decision that saw the Buffaloes try a tactic of not playing Captain Danger at all to see if that would help motivate him to take up a forward line spot but the local fans aren't hopeful with training this week seeing him back on deck and right back in the middle. Late in the first at the Sandpit, and it’s tight, with the Sandgropers and @HOLKY ‘s Whalers, both on 111 points. Mundy put in a stellar performance, to single-handedly hold off Amon and a disappointing, Taylor. His performance didn’t go unnoticed by the home fans, as his efforts cancelled out Eden’s numerical advantage. Still plenty to play out in this one. Go Sandgropers!!!
The Buffalos @wrightbrendan are on 1,257/13 96.7 to the Cuda's on 1,019/11 92.6 The home side has Saad & May to come, while the visitors have Weitering, Corn Boy Cripps, Lewis Young & Ryder.
Early in the last quarter at the Sandpit, and the undermanned, hometown Sandgropers, 1125/12/94, have put this one to bed; leading @HOLKY ‘s Whalers, 849/14/61, by 276 points. It’s been a story of differing fortunes, with Southern Cross having 7 players scoring 100 or more, and Eden, featuring 7 players score 50 or less. The Sandgropers have Laird and Docherty, to round out their 14, the Whalers have only Zach Williams left to play. The W is guaranteed for Southern Cross, it is only the margin now that needs to be decided. Go Sandgropers!!!
The Buff and Barracudas always seem to bring out the best in each other. Hoping to fall on the right side for the first time in a while!
what the @%$#^(*&)*&(*^*%*%$ is wrong with Mitchell this season .......... going to need some BOG performances to snatch victory
Progress score from Huskies Vs Panthers. A very close match up but the Panthers are safely home with the Huskies unable to cover for their growing injury list. Huskies: 923/12 (77) but playing 3 short Panthers: 1016/13 (78)
