Cow Bay 1,120 def Horsham 1,014 The FU gods have thrown some luck Cow Bay's way with 2 victories on the trot for the Crocs, knocking off a 13 man team of Huskies by 106 points over the weekend. Defensive duo Witherden (104) and Wilkie (102) were in the best Crocs this round and helped out their tired teammates Chapman (59) and Scrimshaw (56). Bolton (102) was the best Croc mid for the day, only really getting support from former #1 pick McGrath (82). Rankine (93) has turned his form around the past fortnight and his effort outclassed a more experienced teammate in DeGoey (77). The visitors had the best 3 players on the ground. Gresham took the 3 votes with his 115 points closely followed by Witts (113) who was up against a disappointing Williams (33). Drew (107) was a lone hand in the midfield with the rest of his onballing teammates all scoring under 60 points each. Edwards (84) was the best Husky defender but could do little to stop the home side's forays towards goal. The win gives the Crocs their 3rd of the season and 13th place on the ladder whereas the Huskies slip into 17th place. Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,310 defeat Banchang Barcrawlers 1,250 Hughenden were victorious by 60 points in a fluctuating game of outstanding individual performances to some sub par efforts by both teams. Hughenden’s midfield were on fire with stand in ruckman Logue (58) providing a contest to Hayes (55) enabling Mills (167), Oliver (99) and Jordon (100) to run rampant. The Barcrawler defence did everything they could to repel the onslaught out of the middle to keep them in the contest with Hewett (121), Dawson (107) and Doedee (102) rebounding well but the midfield was having one of those days where the ball bounced in any direction but the right one with only LDU (113) and Lyons (118) off the bench able to handle the conditions. The Bacrawlers forwards did their best when the ball finally entered the forward line with Gray (101) and Neal-Bullen (92) providing the fire the visitors needed, but Hughenden’s defence was resolute with Cox (108), DBJ (114) and Barrass (112) doing enough to get Hughenden home for their second win of the season. Hughenden fans will enjoy the win but will be disappointed this effort hasn’t been replicated in previous weeks, the 2022 season will continue to be one of highs and lows. While Banchang will review this game as one they should’ve won to keep their slim finals chances alive. Sorry lads for the lack of score updates and reports over the last couple SFB home games, aiming to catch up next week bit on.
@Tylo NV 1247/45/83 def KIM 1160/15/77 Nuytsland welcome King Island to "the graveyard" in what the spectators saw was a close fought out battle, I blip by the coaching panel as we thought BUtts was playing but he was no where to found and a reserve player was not selected. An investigation found with all the in's and out's you should never assume. With one man down Vikings posted some respectable scores and thoroughly impressed with Sweets ruck work throwing lollies at Martin who should just retire, finally selection growing some balls. Monarchs without Macrae going ballistic could not get the job done and a welcomed Hickey return although underdone tried tirelessly, a hot start to season by Kennedy stayed true but he partner in crime Green was not his usual bull on the day. Unfortunately 3 scores under 50 was the difference Vikings Tom Liberatore (125): Playing inside midfield, Liberatore contributed with 30 possessions, 5 marks and 8 tackles. Round 8 - Southern Cross Sandgropers 1363/14/91 defeated Eden Whalers 929/14/62 Full time at the Sandpit and @HOLKY 's visiting Whalers have been beaten by the Sandgropers, by 434 points. For the second week in a row, the Sandgropers have managed to get a win with only 14 players on the park. In what was a very one sided affair, Cumming (128), Neale (123), Laird (123), Rich (117), Docherty (115), Mundy (111), Cameron (108), Budarick (102) and Lynch (100) put in outstanding performances to set up the home side for a comfortable victory. On the other side of the ledger, Eden's players struggled to hit triple figures with Crisp (121), the only Whaler to raise the bat. Both sides are battling away in the bottom half of the table, clinging to the slim hope of winning enough games to steal 8th spot. There's still some light at the end of the tunnel, however, it is fading rapidly as we approach the mid way point of the season. Round 9 sees the Whalers return home to take on the Prospectors, whilst Southern Cross will travel to Korumburra to tackle the high flying Blowflys. The week has gotten away from me - will get the match report done tonight after the big game or tomorrow morning @eagle_eyed
1/9th time in the Goldfields and its a cracking start @Mick between the hometown Prospectors and the visiting Blowflys - cracking in the sense that someone needs to get out the whip and crack some players because its a shit-show from both camps. One can only hope this match improves, otherwise it could go down as the biggest fizzer ever witnessed.
Even better @Mick I've added some projected scores based on YTD averages. So what its saying is that if each player scored their average then Korumburra would win 1,352 to 1,253. Now that the game is underway, based on those that have played and their actual score, plus averages from those yet to play, Korumburra will only win by 5 points, 1,265 to 1,260.
Progress score from The Stadium in the Rd 10 clash between the Barcrawlers and the visiting Bulls. The opening term was a bit of a laid back affair, that saw both teams sounding each other out, with Hewett 120 (BB) and Parker 112 (SFB) going head to head. The score at the 1st break sees the visitors in front 2/170 to 1/120. @tyze1
Progress score from The Stadium.... After a very tense 2nd session with both teams thrusting and parrying, the local team holds a slender lead over the visiting Bulls...11/884/80.4 to 10/780/78. Both teams had their injury concerns with Banchang losing Langdon (37) to a heavy tackle and Lynch (33) for Staghorn Flat, doing a hammy. The standouts in this session for the Barcrawlers were Dawson (130) and Doedee (93) down back with LDU (97) and old man Gray (94) doing their best work forward of centre. Not to be outdone, Big Toby in the ruck (135) for the Bulls, did a number on young Hayes (72), while Hill (135) sent back into defence for this round, had his best game for 2022..... Meanwhile in the magoos, Farrell (92) Greenwood (81) and Hamill (70) will be asking questions of Banchang's Selection Committee at the next meeting. @tyze1
Late in the third at the Sandpit, and @YAD69 's visiting Barracudas 1175/13/90, hold a 698 point lead over the Sandgropers 477/7/68. There's still a fair way to go, with Southern Cross having 8 players yet to feature in comparison to Groote's two, but the margin looks too great to bridge. Go Sandgropers!!!
Final score from Huskies Vs Bunyips. Not a great match for either side, but the Bunyips got home. Huskies: 832/12 (69) Bunyips: 1071/13 (82)
Out at the Goldfields it was a very-much one-sided affair, with the visitors seemingly completely on holiday, or injured, or both, while the home side had half a team turn up for some respectability, while the other half were seen prospecting for gold in the local kids playground. @Mick The Prospectors won easily, with some great performances across almost all lines, although there were a few letdowns, and some big selections decisions that didn't pay off (picking FF Larkey against the Dees, what was I thinking?). The Blowflys got a serious swat to the face when they turned up on the team bus to find that B Preuss was not there (how do you misplace this guy, he's the definition of head and shoulders above everyone else?) There was so much to dislike about the visitors performance that a three-digit score can say, better than any amount of words can convey. The only shining light was J Dunkley up forward with 116 points (or 12% of the team score), and a couple of players hitting their average. Other than that, the less said the better. Meanwhile the home side were far from spectacular, but tons from J Sicily, J Short, C Serong, D Fort, and O Wines were definitely positives. The votes: 3 - J Sicily, Coolgardie, 122 2 - J Dunkely, Korumburra, 116 1 - J Short, Coolgardie, 110 The giant tap was won by O McInerney (Coolgardie, 94 points) by the proverbial walkover, with "The Big O" causing his opponent to get just that, a donut from the MIA Korumburra ruckman B Preuss. Next up sees coach @Mick with some soul-searching to do if he's serious about another tilt at a premiership, with a trip to Horsham to face the Huskies. While Coolgardie get another crack at home, this time hosting the locals from down the road, the 'Gropers from Southern Cross. Good luck to all four sides.
Glad to put this week behind us! CP too good this time - gave us the wake up call we deserved! Well played.
Full Time at The Stadium and the visiting Bulls from Staghorn Flat have come home with a wet sail in the final period to earn a well-deserved 4 points over the local Barcrawlers, 1262-1238... Entering the final term 104 points behind, albeit with 1 player in excess, they took the game right up to the locals, with Coniglio (140) soon erasing the deficit and young gun Jai Newcombe came of age with his 121 in the middle, which set his team on the way to victory. Maynard (81) for the visitors, did his bit down back, while Coleman (104,) ever reliable Lyons (113) and Adams (93) did their best to change momentum for the home team, but to no avail. BOG: 3. Final result from the Horsham V Blanchetown match with the Bunyips taking an easy 239 point win (832 vs 1071). This wasn't a great match up for either side, with the Bunyips missing 2 players and the Huskies missing 3. But the Huskies were also let down by many of their players having their worst games of the season so far. Blanchetown were well lead by Houston (139), Walsh (133), Keays (96) and Dale (94). Horsham's top performers were Witts (131), Gresham (115) and Ross (90). Blanchetown grabbed their third win of the season and moved up to 12th on the ladder. Horsham are now 2-8 and sitting 17th.
