Reposting here..... The current league settings are; 10 teams. Starting round 1 Play each other twice in a home and away format, no play during the bye rounds Round 22 is semi finals with 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 Round 23 is GF with the two SF winners playing off. The italicised will be replaced for this year with the following as a single year trial to be voted on at season end for permenancy or scrap. We start in round 3, PLAY through the 4 bye rounds - Semis become R22 again and GF is R23. During the bye rounds any active player on a bye can be replaced by a player with the same position from the FA pool for one round without dropping anyone. Will be done by tonight, will post some dates as well, looking to start draft the day after round 1 finishes, the rest of the dates lined up around that.
So for clarity regarding the timing of being able to pick the "pickup players", will it be at the conclusion of the final game the round before?

I assume you would also introduce a rule to ensure that any "pickup" player must be played onfield? ie, to stop people stockpiling from the Free Agents just to ensure other teams cant use them?
For sure, the player selected must be onfield replacing the player on bye who would otherwise play, ie fit healthy played last week type of deal, not some LTI opportunism
I've just checked my list again and have 5 defs which I'd like to keep, but 4 of them have Rd15 bye. Just to be sure.......by bringing 2 Pickups into my def line to give me 3 active defenders, I still get to keep my original defenders, and then return the pick ups to the FA pool once the round is over.
Correct, provided that at least 2 of the defenders on the bye are active, per above. I'll fix the rules posts in the next day or two to clarify, and highlight anything I've forgotten.
6 weeks of inactivity doesn't sound right, 5 was bad enough. We'll try it this way this year and see if we get a little more activity in the league, involvement has been dropping off after the byes. If it doesn't work we haven't broken anything, if it does work we've improved on something
