Its been a miracle at the Goldfields, with the home team Coolgardie Prospectors stumbling over the line against the badly out of sorts Pakenham Parasites @ddsaints

Neither team really showed much more than average, with plenty of players well below average - just take a look at those respective forward lines.

Defensively J Sicily was Sicily-like, topping the ton and leading all defenders across the ground. A Aliir just missed raising the proverbial bat, while H Clark was good, and new recruit D Heppell was a shadow of his former self, but still better than a half-scoring OOP player. The visitors will be ruing the shambles in their back half, with T Rivers holding up his end well, but seeing no support what-so-ever from teammates C Idun, D Moore, and J Sinclair (who went very missing after a promising start to the season).

As always, the midfield saw some serious action, but unfortunately it was like schoolyard kick-to-kick with the backline woes and the misfiring forwards for both sides left to spectator-status. Prospector C Serong lead all-comers with 146 points, picking up every loose ball he could find, and promptly hitting up teammate T Miller who also topped the ton. O Wines and J O'Meara were there in body, but not in actions, both well below average, and leaving the coaches very disappointed.
Parasite S Sidebottom marked everything that came his way, on his way to 114 points, and then shared the ball evenly between his midfield teammates in A Gaff and A Cerra, scoring 93 and 96 respectively. N Anderson joined his average opponents in the mids, playing the role of seagull, watching and making a lot of noise, but not actually contributing much.

In the big man department, it was an arm wrestle for the ages, or maybe a thumb war is a better description, with only one point separating the two players, but with 77 and 78 points each, they were hardly outstanding performances.

The less said about the forwards the better. The Coolgardie goalkickers were well off the mark all game, with L Pedlar performing better in the warm up than his teammates did during the game. The visitors were much the same, until J Lukosius stood up and showed everyone how it was done, slotting them from all angles on his way to a marvellous 118 points and keeping the visitors in with a chance.

Off the bench for the visitors was the 1-2 combo of W Setterfield and M Blicavs, seen running everywhere together, but only handballing to eachother on their way to 80-odd points each, much to the disgust of the visitors coaching box. Meanwhile J Aish ran off the locals bench, and decided to kick the ball, proving the difference in the end with his 102 points getting the Prospectors over the line by a narrow margin in the final stanza.

It was a close tight tussle all day, not one for the highlights reel, but definitely kept everyone in attendance on the edge of their seats until the final siren.

    The votes:
    3 - C Serong, Coolgardie, 146 points
    2 - J Lukosius, Pakenham, 118 points
    1 - S Sidebottom, Pakenham, 114 points

The giant tap was won by R Marshall, Pakenham, beating O McInerney, Coolgardie, by the narrowest of margins, 78 to 77 points.

Next up sees Pakenham return home to host the Buffalos from Serengeti, while Coolgardie are on the road for a fishing expedition, hunting Barracuda on Groote Eylandt. Good luck to all four teams.

Thanks @wrightbrendan for the match report and score updates throughout the weekend. 1427 is a massive score, and I'm guessing you would have been hoping to hold that for a more important round than this one. We certainly couldn't have matched that, but it's a shame we had a couple of players subbed off, otherwise a score closer to 1200 was possible.

Cow Bay 1,231 def Blanchetown 1,212
The home crowd celebrated Cow Bay's first win (and home win) of the year by trashing the visiting Blanchetown players' bus. Some local hooligans used spray paint to cross out the word Bunyips and replaced it with B!tches.

The home side saw some mighty efforts from Dylan Moore (131), De Goey (122), Cow Bay's chosen one Sheezus (120), Rankine (117) and Taranto (112). Bolton (94) stepped up in Hopper's absence and McGrath (93) led the defensive 4 all match. Although there were 5 Crocs who hit triple figures, 4 players also scored less than 50 (with another scoring 51) and while their efforts weren't up to scratch, the coach wouldn't have been so forgiving had the score line favoured the visiting team again.

Blanchetown almost caused an upset and were strongly led by O'Brien (121), Daicos (117), Houston (110), Hardwick (109) and Dale (102). Although there were an equal 5 decent scoring players for both sides, Blanchetown had a few more players not pulling their weight on the weekend with some questionable efforts particularly from Stengle (24) and Hollands (36). Young Phillipou (51) didn't perform but can be forgiven after showing some flashes of brilliance in his first few games.

    Big Tap

    Williams (83) def by O'Brien (121)

    BAFFU
    3
    Moore, COW, 131
    2 De Goey, COW, 122
    1 O'Brien, BBU, 121

Blanchetown suffered their 3rd straight loss of the year and are sitting in 16th place. Next week they host the Barcrawlers at home.
Cow Bay recorded their first win and now sit in 10th spot. Next week they'll be hosting a BBQ for the visiting Bulls.

Late in the 1st and the hometown Sandgropers, 248/3/83, lead @ron swanson 's Cormorants, 158/4/40*, by 90 points.

A long way to go yet, but with only 13 fit players, Carnarmah will struggle to have the legs to see this one out.

    Go Sandgropers!!!

    *2 donuts included

Hughenden back at home and are trailing the visiting Monarchs by 193 points but with both sides having plenty to play for it should be a close finish:-

When there's points on the board already, there's always a chance @JPK. However, that said, Go Cuda's.
