    Hi everyone,

As we have voted to reduce the number of teams to 16, it brings into play some interesting decisions that are required to be made.

I am starting this thread to table my thinking, as a means of starting some debate.

Here is the base decisions I would like to table:
    • we stay a 16 franchise association (voted and passed)
    • we move to a 15 week home and away season (everyone plays each other once, with the 4 byes like this season)
    • We have a four week traditional finals series
    • We start the season in AFL round 2
    • the Warriors and Chooks players will be put back into the available player pool, eligible for drafting at the PSD
Other than that, I am not suggesting any other changes temporary or permanent... in fact I am struggling to think of anything that can be tabled that I think holds a decent amount of water

    • I considered priority picks for a couple of the bottom teams but it was impossible to find an equitable way to do it, this way the lower clubs have the choice of picking a gun from other Warriors or Chooks lists, or playing a longer term strategic game and using their draft pick to grab a rookie, that's a bit of a boon as it is
    • I did not consider expanding list sizes... the lists are fine, especially now with more players in the pool
We can have some quick debate here if warranted... but I will move these decisions to a vote later in the week unless anyone has anything that I have not considered

    Thanks Bandit,
I like the concept of a dispersal draft (maybe 2 rounds) before the PSD where we all draft from the pool of Chooks and Warriors only.
See what others say to guide whether worth voting on.

Other than that, all good with your suggestions.

I like this idea. I think it's better than just adding all the players to the pool.

Also, @Bandit why start in round 2? What is the rationale for that? ORFFF started in round 2 this year, and I think its better to start round 1 when AFL starts. Personally I found it strange waiting a week for ORFFF to kick off.

Hi Bandit - I struggled with the concept of priority picks on the same basis as you - how do we decide who should be involved.

If we based it off 3-4 years of results for example, the Nuffers would be front and centre despite their efforts this year.

Great for self interest, but maybe not for equity.

However I strongly believe that there is a need to offer something in these circumstances.

One point perhaps that I would like to raise is the option of a one round dispersal draft where we work in reverse ladder order and choose from the players from the two disbanding franchises.

That would be followed by the PSD where all players remaining are in the pool.

One round dispersal draft would maybe give some teams a slight uptick in depth, most importantly. Because injuries and their impact on depth have become a really telling factor in team success in recent times.

It would give teams an extra, good quality, functioning regular player in place of a fringe/injured/lesser player. But it wouldn't be such a massive advantage as to entirely warp things or spoil other teams' rebuilding or planning.

Only reason was one more week to see players to make better informed decisions in the draft… we have a spare week… where would you suggest we use it… finish the season a week early is the other option

Seems like there is some interest in a potential dispersal draft… we could take that to a separate vote if warranted

I see how that could be advantageous to start later. I personally think it’s better to finish a week earlier, to avoid the last round of the season which can be problematic with selections.

We can work that bit out closer to season start… we should probably wait for the fixture in case they change it again!
