Round 3 - Korumburra Blowflys (8th) v Exmouth Anglers (14th) @eagle_eyed The Blowflys returned home licking their wounded wings, having a good hard look at themselves in the week leading up to this match. The loss on the road to Pakenham was a good wake up call and with the local township getting around their warriors a quick reset and relaunch was on the cards... It all began in the middle with the two behemoths staring each other down across the centre circle. For the home side it was the imposing young Tristan Xerri coming of age and growing in confidence each week now that he's been handed the keys to drive this midfield. For the visitors it was ex-Blowfly Mason Cox staring back through foggy or were they tear filled goggles?... as the local throng around the boundary sang "Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie..." to welcome the big Texan back to the Terrordome. Xerri gave his midfielders first use all day, dominating the hit outs and following up at ground level to set up the likes of Kelly (104), Ross (112), Daicos (112) and Captain Steele (126). The Anglers mids were left chasing tail all day, the best of the bunch being tackling machine Rowbottom (86). When the Anglers did get their hands on the aggot and work it forward it quickly came straight back the other way. The loose Blowfly defenders had a field day with Vlastuin (167) and Martin (136) taking the P15S! Mihocek (87) bobbed up with a couple as a lone hand up forward for Exmouth. Hinge (76) did what he could to thwart the deluge of Blowfly forward 50 entries but it was all too much in the end, the Flys back on the winners list, boosting their percentage with a lazy 662 point demolition! Meanwhile, Blowflys pre-season addition Riley Bonner was forced to watch on from the boundary line again this week but after another big game (104) in the 2's he might just have earned himself a reprieve. Young upstart, orange headed ruckman Toby Conway (83) was also solid in the 2's but might have to wait a while to get a run in the seniors.
Progress score from The Stadium sees the River Rats increase their lead over the Bulls, with Duggan 134, having a stand out game and well supported by Adams 97, in his 1st game for the season.... The score stands at 10/799 to 8/650......although Staghorn Flat have Whitfield Maynard Coniglio Ward Newcombe Nankervis and Hill still to come, and would be looking to keep their winning advantage over this team, intact. @tyze1
Full time at The Stadium and Staghorn Flat have come home with a wet sail and completely swamped Bueng Kan 1318-1144. In this period of play, Nankervis 133 in the ruck had it on a string, and his hitouts to the midfield of Coniglio 111 and Newcombe 110 was something to be seen......Buckley 87 in defence for the Rats tried hard but to no avail. Carnamah travelled to a typically wet windy King Island to find the locals had forgotten to close the roof of the Kingdome, leading to another scrappy encounter. Neither team showed any great desire for the victory but in the end it was the Monarchs that scraped home 951 vs 947. Lloyd Meek (130) found himself unopposed in the ruck for most of the day as David Swallow had no interest in living up to his name in taking down the goliath. It took the coaching staff until the last quarter to coax him, O'Connor, and Macrae out into the miserable conditions. Skipper Macrae heard to make some pointed comments about where the coach could stick his head as rumours swirled around the island about a rift within the club. Whilst big Lloydo wandered around the ground doing as he pleased, unfortunately the very young Cormorants midfield weren't able to capitalise on his dominance. Green (109) yet again led the bigger more experienced Monarchs mid group to control around stoppages. With both backline well on top, it was Himmelberg (93) for the Monarchs intercepting everything that came his way in the first half, and Rioli (98) and Florent (90) for the Cormorants providing plenty of drive. Along with the ruckman, the big positive for the visitors was the performance of 4th gamer Harley Reid (91), who was by far the best forward on the ground doing everything he could to drag his team over the line. @Batfink Vikings 1476 def Prairie Dogs 1076 The wind howled across the open plains of Odin's Graveyard carrying with it the promise of battle. The Viking warband, led by the fierce Heeney Ironfist, stood ready, their weapons glinting in the dim light of dawn. Across from them, on the horizon, the prairie dogs assembled their forces, chittering and chattering in anticipation. The Vikings were a sight to behold, clad in their mail shirts and helmets, their swords and axes at the ready. Heeney himself wielded a massive double-edged sword, its blade etched with intricate patterns of beasts and runes. The prairie dogs, on the other hand, were smaller in stature but no less fierce. They stood on their hind legs, their sharp claws digging into the earth, their teeth bared in a silent snarl. They were led by Yeo, a veteran of many battles, his fur matted with the blood of his enemies. As the two forces clashed, the air was filled with the clash of steel on steel, the twang of bowstrings, and the cries of the wounded. The prairie dogs fought with a ferocity that belied their size, leaping and darting among the Vikings, their claws and teeth finding their mark with deadly accuracy. But the Vikings were no strangers to battle. They fought with a disciplined fury, their swords and axes cleaving through the ranks of their foes. Heeney himself was a whirlwind of destruction, cutting a path through the prairie dog warriors with ease. As the sun reached its zenith, the tide of battle began to turn. The prairie dogs, unable to withstand the relentless assault of the Vikings, began to fall back, their lines breaking under the onslaught. Yeo fought on, his fur stained red with blood, but it was clear that the day belonged to Heeney and his warriors. With a final, desperate charge, Yeo fell, his body surrounded by a sea of fallen comrades. The remaining prairie dogs, seeing their leader defeated, turned and fled, disappearing into the vastness of the plains. The Vikings stood victorious, their weapons stained with blood, their chests heaving with exertion. Heeney raised his sword to the sky, a triumphant roar on his lips. The battle was won. 3. In what promised to be an enthralling match in the Goldfields, between two teams that on paper and by YTD averages were very closely matched, turned into such a one-sided affair that the fans weren't really blamed for going home at half time. The local Prospectors clearly got ahead of themselves, believing all the hype that came from a 3-0 start to the season, and floundered badly under the pressure. Meanwhile the Blowflys from Korumburra were completely fired up by coach @Mick and put everything on the line in pursuit of a maiden ORFFU Premiership, but in this game just that magical 1500 point total. The locals were average across the board, so much so that the official score-keeper has taken the scoreboard home with him, and refuses to bring it back out to be seen in public again. A total of 1174 at an average of 78.3 was exactly that, average. Conversely, the Blowflys had winners all over the ground, with a total of 1495 at an average of 99.7 and 7 players raising the cricket bat. This was the contest that never was. The Giant Tap T Xerri, Korumburra, 115 defeated O McInerney, Coolgardie, 73, by 42 points. Pakenham 1273 def by Cow Bay 1380 Pakenhams 2nd home game of the year and unfortunately this one didn’t go so well. The strong unit of the Crocs came rolling into town and they meant business. An overwhelming showing of strength with some great games from Cow Bays stars Sheezel 124,De Goey 138, Bolton 133 Wilke 102, Wilmot 99 Moore 98 and Taranto 92. Across the board no real passengers. The coach would no doubt be pleased. The Parasites tried hard but could not produce scores good enough to beat a strong unit like the Crocs Pakenhams Sinclair 124, Butters 119, Big Row 147 and Lukosius 95 were the best for the home team, with to many others not getting it done when it matters. The selection committee again will come under scrutiny with no brains decisions again. The giant tap was won fairly well with Big Row taking the honors Row 147 defeating Williams 75 BOG 3. Horsham Huskies 1274 defeated Blanchetown Bunyips 1083 The Huskies were back at home and desperate to square their season ledger at 2-2. With no bye to worry about, both teams were well prepared to put close to their best teams forward. For the Huskies, Witts and Flanders returned for this match and they proved to be vital in holding off a late Bunyips charge on the Sunday. The Bunyips midfield was strengthened by the return of Horne-Francis & Hollands. What shaped as a close match-up on paper saw the Huskies lead at every change. Despite Papley playing a full game for 12 points, an injury to Hollands (19) saw any advantage for the Bunyips lost. The Huskies won the game in the forward line with Flanders (125), Caldwell (99) and Bailey (88), proving too good. Midfielders X Duursma (116), Drew (104), Ross (101) and Holmes (97) kept the ball going forward. Witts (98) was too good in the ruck. Meanwhile, pre-season target McVee (119) played his best game so far. For the Bunyips, Horne-Francis (132) and Houston (106) did what they could to keep their team in it. Cameron (110) and J Daicos (102) scored well, but the contest was over before they arrived. Outside of the injury to Hollands, ROB (62) and Dale (52) were well below their best. And Ugle-Hagan (50) was beaten by J Henry (66) here and in real life. Round 4 - Ararat Armadillos vs Eden Whalers In a match as brief as this report will be, the Edenites came to town yet only two players packed their boots! Amon (112) was praying for some help but couldnt get anything more Crisp (101) than Jack. Throw in a couple of 30 odds and a Pendelbury 23 and it was clear all involved were looking for a mercy rule or at least some sort of footy equivalent to the 19th hole. Dillos left a ton unusued as Soligo (128) finally found some form from the Emergency position. Onfield, led by the PAFC capn (152) there was a 138 (Blakey), 2 * 129's (Rowell & Beard) and a 124 (Brayshaw) which ensured success. AA 1544 def EW 1046
