Out at the Goldfields, and the visiting Armadillos have fallen over the line against the home side. @insider In what set out to be a very one-sided affair, with Ararat short-priced favourites against Coolgardie, ended up being a very tight tussle. There were some magnificent efforts by players on both sides to get their teammates fired up and give their side the win, but there were far too many sub-par performances by players on both sides. It started in the ruck duel, with Oscar the Grouch and Ned Kelly spending more time comparing Instagram accounts than playing actual footy, much to the disgust of both coaches. The midfielders suffered badly as a result, with T Miller and R Laid seen picking up a ball each - clearly out of practice after the byes and more-than-somewhat confused by how the game was supposed to be played - yet at least they turned up, which is more than can be said for the remaining 6 midfielders named in the game. When the ball made its way out of the middle, it was the defenders who shone, with J Sicily and A Aliir for the home side, and N Blakey and L Ryan for the visitors, putting on their best T20 impressions, and all managing to raise their bats in triumph. There was one forward who followed that lead and kept the T20 theme going, kicking six after six (again, confused by the byes, and watching too much sport on TV), and that was M Guelfi, the new recruit for the locals. The rest of the forwards were seen running between the big sticks - no one is really sure why, but they all seemed happy doing this! Off the interchange bench there was a whole lot of nothing for the locals, while C Rozee dug deep to drag his team over the line, securing the 28 point win for the visitors. The home side, upon reflection, let this one slip away. Facing a clearly out-of-sorts Armadillo outfit, this was the Prospectors big chance, but some dubious selections really hurt, and will have the entire team scratching their heads over the next week, trying to make amends. The giant tap, was an absolute fizzer, with M Gawn, Ararat, defeating O McInerney, Coolgardie, by 14 points, 79 to 65. It all started with a dominant performance in the Ruck with ROB (94) beaten by Xerri (141). This was the difference in a win and a loss 17 point loss and the number two team could have been knocked down a peg or two! Great performances in the guts from home side hero - Walsh (148) and the visiting Dunkley (143) just showed why they are top talent in this league. Down back a solid Howe (101) from the visitors vs a very lacklustre Houston (59) for the Yips. The Daicos brothers enjoyed playing against each other whilst Josh gets the nod over Nick for the performance outscoring his season average by 14 points. Renowned for their prowess in battle and their unyielding spirit, they were the stuff of legends. Their warriors, with muscles carved from years of combat and eyes sharp as the hawk's, had never known defeat. But their greatest challenge would come not from a rival clan or a monstrous beast, but from an unseen enemy that lurked within their very bodies. It began in the summer, when the midnight sun cast an eternal twilight over the land. The clan had returned from a victorious raid, their longships laden with treasures and their hearts filled with pride. They chose to celebrate their triumph in the sacred Viking graveyard, where their ancestors lay in eternal slumber, hoping to draw strength from the spirits of their forebears. The celebration was grand. Mead flowed like rivers, and the air was thick with the scent of roasted boar. Skalds sang songs of valor, and warriors boasted of their feats. Yet, unbeknownst to them, the enemy had already infiltrated their ranks. A parasitic infection, borne by the very boars they feasted upon, began its silent assault. It started with a few warriors feeling unusually fatigued. They brushed it off, attributing it to the exhaustion of battle and revelry. But soon, the symptoms grew more severe. Fevers raged like wildfires, and fierce warriors were reduced to shivering wretches. Muscles that once wielded axes and swords with ease now trembled and failed. They had faced death in countless forms, but never had they felt so helpless. Newman, determined to save his people, led an expedition to the highlands in search of rare herbs known to combat infections. However, the journey was long and perilous, and many succumbed to the infection before they could return. Back in the graveyard, Freydis did all she could to ease the suffering. She invoked ancient rituals, praying to the gods for mercy. But the gods were silent. The spirits of the ancestors seemed distant, as if mourning the inevitable fall of their proud descendants. The once-mighty Nuytsland warriors, now shadows of their former selves, fought a losing battle against the invisible enemy. One by one, they fell, their bodies joining the ancient bones that littered the graveyard. The infection spared none—warriors, women, and children alike were claimed by its merciless grip. In the end, Newman returned with the herbs, but it was too late. The graveyard was a scene of desolation, with the fallen clan members lying in eternal rest. Newman, heartbroken and weary, knelt among the dead and wept for his lost kin. He buried his axe in the ground, a symbol of their surrender to a foe they could not see nor fight. The story of the Nuytsland Clan's fall spread across the land, a somber tale of valor undone by an invisible enemy. The graveyard, once a place of reverence and strength, became a haunting reminder of the fragility of even the mightiest warriors. The Barracuda's finish on 1,408/15 93.8 to the River Rats on 1,267/15 84.5 After the mid-season break both teams refreshed and ready to rock'n'roll. The River Rat @choppers made their way to Groote in their new colours and new recruits. For the visitors their defence was under the pump from the first bounce, Duggan ran off the half back and Collins sat on Naughton all day. Mason the Wood roamed forward, banged a goal with Cameron taking out the big tap with his high possessions. New recruits Miller who wonder down to defence to help out and Bodhi rotating through the mid with 18 possessions. For the home side McGovern was zoning off Riccardi and racking up intercept marks while Weitering moved the ball well but gave away 3 frees. The Bont lead the midfield with 35 possession and rested forward plus Corn Boy Cripps had a big 40 possessions. Grundy battled it out in ruck however landed awkwardly in Q3 and spent some time on the pine. The Magnificent Zorko had 28 possessions with a stint running off half back with McLean hammering 2 goals through while pinch hitting in the ruck. In the first game back from the byes, the new players did well for the Whalers. But the Crocs took home the win to claim 4th spot. Final score was 1368 vs 1203, Comben and Tucker did well as new players. Also, KKP scored 122 and has been developing well. Meanwhile, the Crocs had 7 100+ scorers. Step-by-step though. Doing better than last year, and the new players should develop well. Next week, it's 3v4 with Cow Bay vs Groote Eylandt and I hope to pick up a win against Damo. In the main, Nuytsland's midfield group (English 137, Young 125, Libba 110 and Scott 91) have completely outplayed the locals, although new boy Durham 108, did his best to stem the tide for Bueng Kan. The defence of Nuytsland was also on top with Newman 84 and Duncan 128 shutting down the River Rats offence, although latest signing Simpkin 110, in his 2nd game for the Rats, was serviceable. @bryzza
