ORFFA Round 15 (AFL Round 19)
    The Final/s Countdown

    Its the final countdown.
    De-ne-ne-ne.
    Duh-duh-duh-det-dah.
    De-ne....
And so on into the abyss of 1980s hair rock.

This week is indeed the final countdown. For some it is a countdown to finals with Top 4 spots on the line. For others it is the last chance saloon to make the Top 8. For other others, it is an excuse to limber up for the Zac Dawson Cup.

Whatever your countdown may be, may it be enjoyable, entertaining and not involve too much hair, leather or really bad plays on words like the name of this round.

Wineglass Bay Packers vs Charlies Opening Spelunkers
Cradle Mountain Devils vs Dunsborough Dung Beetles
Lovely Banks Lilacs vs Iron Knob Codpieces
Marble Bar Misfits vs Birdsville Battlers
Wagga Wagga Wombats vs Larrikin Lagoon Lefties
Venus Bay Vultures vs Gundagai Grasshoppers
Gariwerd Cockatoos vs Mount Beauty Uglies
    Waikickamoocow Incorrigibles vs Nareewillock Nuffers

Spelunkers team for the intrastate rivalry with our friends from Wineglass Bay @Tracey

I hope the supercoach gods address the limited amount of decent forwards next year!!!

The answer to there not being decent forwards is to just draft or recruit more forwards. I have 11 of them and can sometimes find four functional ones. My aim after the PSD is to have half my team made up of forwards.

Team for this week to play @graeme's Incorrigibles

D - Redman, Idun, Richards, Clark (BZT)
M - Rowell, Serong, Gulden, Warner
    R - Ryan
F - Bedford, Daniels, Langford, Higgins (West)
    I/C - Keane, Horne-Francis (Cameron)

I have 10 myself... 7 of them average 70 or worse

Out of the 16 starting lineups this week, there are only 22 forwards named that average more than 80... and only 2 that average 100 or more

In contrast we have 45 defenders lining up that average more than 80, and 14 of those average 100 or higher

That would suggest the current Champion Data scoring method doesn't favour forwards

    Just dug a little more

Average across all forwards in the league excluding those with a 0 average is 56
Same average for defenders is 66

Posting really quickly on behalf of Jen as she can't access the site.

Is one of our trusty mods with special powers able to switch Peter Wright out of the Lilacs starting side and replace him with Isaac Heeney?

    Thanks.

Lacking some topend talent with Kelly and Taranto both out, that said, pretty sure I'm more likely to be a front runner for the Dawon Cup :)

Another close game for the Devils, the unofficial score I have is:

    Cradle Mountain Devils 1,307
    Defeated
    Dunsborough Dung Beetles 1,288

Needing a win to lock in a finals spot Cradle Mountain led Dunsborough from start to finish but had a late scare from the fast-finishing Dung Beetlest. The Devils led Dunsborough by 144 points at half-time 641-497 and looked to be on track for a comfortable victory. A quartet of Dung Beetles had other ideas with defenders Harry Sheezel (138) and Steven May (124) along with midfielders Bailey Scott (125) and Matt Roberts (114) inspiring a second half scoring spree. DDB accumulated a massive 791 points after half-time whilst Cradle Mountain fittingly tallied the number of the Devil - 666 and unofficially have held on for a 19 point victory. Other Beetles to reach triple figures were midfielder 1 Tom Green (117) along with defender Logan Evans (110) from the interchange. Dunsborough won the ton count 6-4 and a 1,250 + score is a great way for Head Coach @CursingFijian and his young Dung Beetles outfit to finish their 2024 ORFFA home and away season with two lines defense (422) and the midfield (419) each accumulating 400+ points.

The 12 Dung Beetles players on the three multi-position on-field lines outscored their Devils counterparts by 111 points, 1,098 to 987. Cradle Mountain’s ruck trio were able to outscore Dunsborough’s ruck and interchange 320 to 190 to propel CMD to victory. Devils rucks Tim English with a best afield 139 and Rowan Marshall (123) were in their club’s best three players along with forward Dayne Zorko (129). Captain and M1 Jack Steele (118) completed the Devils quartet of tons. It wasn’t all smooth sailing in the Cradle Mountain ruck division with vice-captain Toby Nankervis (58) suffering a head knock late in the third quarter. Nank finished the game on the bench and has entered concussion protocols which means that he will be unavailable for week 1 of the finals.

    Awesome write up!

To quote Adam Yze...I'm proud of the boys and we can't fault their effort.

That's all folks. Now we'll get on the bus and head back to Loserborough for the party!
