A motion and a timed vote? Has someone been studying political process? I'd support this. I'd want to extend it though. Any person can propose a motion, but only one motion per year. At least two other coaches must verbalise their support. It'll then go to a vote (votes in-season can be 72h, votes out of season will probably need to be longer duration). Basically someone proposes something, committee of three refines the idea and puts forward something workable, then it goes to a vote.
I agree that there are too many bye rounds now to maintain 18 teams. Large squad sizes are needed to keep us going. Really, its reduce teams or reduce onfield players to reduce squad size. As Ive been in the comp the least amount of time (only 5 years), I'm nominating the Huskies to fold. Happy for the original coaches to keep going.
I mean, mathematically 18 teams requires 270 players active per round from a pool of 504 drafted. Even during a 2 game bye round, there's 322. A bit of a close shave. But still workable.
Hmm. I would prefer a transfer of ownership. Because if we fold them, we'd either have a bye or have to go down to 16 teams.
I did like insiders suggestion for a 16 team competition. It would be then deciding on the other team .......
If we stay at 18 teams this year(finding a new Coach) then we don't play our 17th game til Rd23, due to 10 teams in Opening Rd this season, which means we only have Rd24 to play a Final 1 v 2 OR First past the post.......(if my calcs are correct). If we go to 17 teams then we have 2 Rds to organise Finals, but each team will have a Bye during H&A...
Do we vote someone off? I think I'd still prefer 18 teams with someone new taking over for Damo if we can't get him back.
I believe , like insider said we should have a vote to reduce teams ........... then take it from there
Yeah. It's 6 rounds missing this year, if we discount any 4 team+ bye. Leaving us with 18 rounds. Chop's calcs are correct. From what I can tell, 18 teams gives us 1 round of finals. As does 17, 16 games and a bye. 16 teams would allow for 3 rounds of finals (15 games). These are the options I can see.
I think a good option is to drop to 17 teams. Having a bye is no biggy and it may help teams that cop a few injuries. Voting another team to drop out is not an option that I see, unless someone has been absent for 6 months.
Alright, so here goes with the first attempt of a change with the new process. Top-line idea is to fold two current FU teams, reducing the league to 16 and thereby having a workable finals structure in 2026. Proposal: Christmas Island and King Island to fold. Reasoning: no activity, match reports, community engagement, positive impact on the FU. Also the aforementioned finals issue. Specifics: all players on the two lists go into the free agency/psd pool. League goes from 18 teams to 16 teams. Are there two other coaches who second (and third?) my motion, thereby moving to a vote?
