    Thanks TiB.
Love seeing the Hoof up in lights like that.

Now to devise a cunning plan on the best way to use it to rearrange those god-awful Battler pearly whites.

With all the brown paper bags turning up at Ross Lyon's house, I hope he can differentiate between JC's wads of cash and Chris' exploding faeces.

Rossy, in the spirit of fairplay and teetering sanity, don't be a Lloyd Bridges.

Rossy, in the spirit of fairplay and teetering sanity, don't be a Lloyd Bridges. Ross Lyon has had Darraweit's trade list attached to his head. He was last seen staggering around the Guim looking for Michael Walters to help him out. I've instructed Michael to take a week's break and enjoy some free time. Thus Ross is in a fair degree of trouble. That said, further horrors may await, Grav - http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-p... 'The Kangaroos will make a decision at match committee later in the week whether to leave out players who are sore and or fatigued. Included in the group of sore players is Brownlow Medal contender Todd Goldstein, who has played every game this season. 'Goldstein copped a nasty knock to the hip in the loss to the Western Bulldogs last weekend. <div class='story-sidebar]'Others who could be rested include Jarrad Waite, Drew Petrie, Brent Harvey, Andrew Swallow and Nick Dal Santo.' ***** OK, so this isn't at all ideal. This I believe may be the second or third time a grand final in the ORFFA has been marred by players being (quite understandably) rested. This year, it has extended to the prelims and Freo players as well. Ironically if Darraweit had gotten through last week we'd be looking down the barrel of losing Boomer this week! But more importantly, from a league wide perspective this really puts a dent in the pointy end of the season. I realise now's probably not the time (and this ain't the thread) but do we need a discussion about alternatives - if there are any. Is this an issue that can be raised perhaps during out post ORFFA GF rules discussion?

Tigers not resting any? As such, you would think any coach who put their faith in the Tiges would be rewarded at this point of the season. I guess the same goes for the Giants, Doggies, Crows and Port, etc. Given Chris' point that it has happened before, coaches should be aware of the risks inherent in loading up on Freo players and that Hodgey usually times his rest about this time of the year (remember when it was up to the MRP if he would play in the granny and they let him go?). Buyer beware I reckon. At the other end of the stick you have the bottom teams introducing a lot of new blood to decide their list.

Doesn't look like the Tigers will be resting any ... probably can't afford to given we haven't beaten North in a looong time. :)

Is this an issue that can be raised perhaps during out post ORFFA GF rules discussion? Players get rested all through the year. I dont think its a big deal. In saying that though, despite finishing oh so close in 9th twice and 10th once, ive never played ORFFA Finals, so i cant speak on this issue as being directly affected by it. I can think of a few ways we could lessen the effect of players being rested late in the season, but i dont like them, compared to what we're doing now. <div>

That was my fear Ant, that the 'cure' might be worse than the 'disease'.

I have been thinking - mostly about food and wine - but also about the structure of the finals. I have what is a radical plan which needs some other movement to happen to make it work. I would not advocate forcing the idea but natural attrition might provide an opportunity. Currently we have 23 rounds of 'home and away' play with three weeks of staggered byes. That give 20 rounds to play out our contest. 17 home and away and three weeks of finals. Consider the other non-variable - we have 18 teams which drives the first 17 rounds. I assume no one would really be keen about a system in which we did not play all the other teams at least once a year. Given the current scenarios (afl rounds, resting players in late rounds) I would argue that if Walesy was setting up another ORFF_ the optimal number of teams would be 16. Driving 15 home and away games and a three, four or five week finals series if there were no tanking by Ross type concerns. If, and only if, some ORFFA managers decided the time pressures were too great then rather than find new manager(s) we might consider reducing the number of teams. Please, before you attack me, think of this as a theoretical idea. A lot would have to happen to make it reality, and those ducks may never fall into place. Hell, I love ORFFA and I love all my fellow managers. I am just describing a scenario that occurred to me from (i) reading the re-commitment thread; and (ii) having played finals and having a couple of Freo players. Len, if you think this would be better in another thread please feel free to move it and let this thread concentrate on the lead up to and the play in the finals. Best of luck to all four finalists.

I am happy with discussing finals structures in a finals thread, draws attention to them and hopefully we get to discuss the finals too :) We do need to open discussion threads for anything else over the next week or two.

Good Luck to the 2 finals participants! Should have had a sneaky $50 on them both. Happy to discuss finals changes, sounds logical to me chels, of course I would prefer coaches stay on and keep or existing format, but if we were to drop 2 I think we should make the proposed change rather than re-hire.

Saw it in passing yesterday ant. It is good that we both came to a similar (same) decision independently. For mine, it makes the rationale that much stronger.

North have confirmed they'll be resting 10 players on Friday night.

(He gazes wistfully at his line-up of Richmond players ready to have a SC picnic, wonders what might have been in a grand final this week).

Can I ask - what do SC do in order to not have their grand final in the last round of the home and away season. Is it something we can replicate or consider?

They started round robin games in round 2 instead of round 3 this year which allowed leagues tohave a round 22 GF instead of round 23. We already start in round 1 so that won't help us. Supercoach obviously plays through the byes to be able to do that wherethey only count the best18 scores instead of the full 22.But SC also allowsyou tomake up to 9 trades over the 3 rounds to help reduce the impact of the byes on player availability, which is a luxury we don't have.
