[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]With a top two finish up for grabs, this top rung tussle didn't disappoint. Big Boy (124) dominated the tag team Martin/Kreuzer duo and readily fed candy into the Battlers guts of Smurph (114), Treloar (132) and Risky (99). The late withdrawal of Beams was telling but sub-par performances across all lines was the rub for the home side. Jetta (106) reminded us all that imaginary spear-throwing ultimately leads to war-dancing which leads to booing which in turn leads to more war-dancing and then even more booing. There is no place in the AFL for any of this shit and the sooner the AFL bans all imaginary spears, the better off this game will be.

[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]Unfortunately this was always gonna be a one-sided affair. The Hoppers were left stranded following the eruption of the long-dormant Wee Jasper volcano. A fleet of Wicked vans was mustered to get the team as close to the east coast as possible but with most international flights cancelled, the visitors were forced to swim the cruel seas to Mordor. Inevitably, a few souls were lost and the remainder moderately short of breath by the time the opening siren sounded. This was far from a stellar outing for the Cows, with a couple of donuts and some insipid midfield displays. Teen Wolf (134) and Sauce (132) kept the home side afloat while Sinclair (134) chimed in to give the Ranga some respite. Grundy (108) shouldered most of the ruck duties but the Hoppers engine-room looked more winded than a shark in a Mick Fanning title fight. A hollow victory for the Cows with Griffiths suffering a finger injury and Fyfe set to be rested.

    [span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]Lock up your bean-stalks people, cos the giant killers are on the loose! Now I'll admit the Nuffers are perhaps not giant-class (sorry Andy), but following up back to back wins over the Vultures and the Battlers, the Uglies have monstered their opposition this week with a clinical display. Seven tons and four 90+ outings (refer additional colour supplement for BOG fanfare), saw the visitors switch on their mojo right when it counted. Many supporters are still questioning the club culture at the Mount, with Bennell's self-medicating circus being upstaged by Martin's on-field drinking problem. Never the less the old adage of if you can score, you can score” rang true on the day for the Uglies. The Nuffers were far from ashamed in this one with the midfield of Stanton (134), Cross (111) and JPK (108) firing well.

    [span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]The silver lining got a good buffing for the Liliacs this week, despite going down to the grief-stricken Codpieces. With Hanley a late out and the Little Master going down early, the Codpieces were vomiting in their cereal. The shockwave felt across the league was polarising and somewhat akin to the time Luke Darcy decided to wear gloves. Some scintillating footy played by both sides especially the young, purple haze brigade. Langdon (109), Langford (105) and Moore (89) were stand outs, but dog-days for Pyke, White and Rosa saw this one slip away. Some big tons from Hodge (140) and Breust (131) helped the visitors temper the midfield void and roll on for a win.

    [span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]With most teams being hit by the injury stick in some form, the Wombats take the cake by copping an upper cut of an entire forest of timber. Take out Watson, Shiel, Gibbs, Swallow, Prestia, Tippett, Pittard and Franklin and you wouldn't blame Lenny for taking a leave of absence to adopt a permanent foetal position in some far away corner. To their credit, the Marsupials continue to show up and blood their emerging youth. A monster from Roberton (144) and support from Sheppard (109) and Bastinac (102) gave the home crowd something to scream about, until…enter Jack Gunston (165) for the Troggs! With Merrett (140) and the Frenchman (89) assisting up forward, the visitors slipped into 6th gear powered off into the sunset in this one.

    [span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]With the Warriors developing an addiction to weight-gain sakes during the mid-season break, the former Commish is putting to bed and speculation of pick tanking. New-comers in Douglas (122), Smith (89) and McIntosh (74) repaid the faith and offset the underdone forward line. A well-rounded performance from the Cockies but the ruck absenteeism must be wearing a little thin. With the top 4 still wide open, the Warriors look set to haunt many in their dreams.

[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]Well strap me down and hose me off with custard! This Chicken juggernaut is really getting out of control. Now you probably remember that movie The Karate Kid where Ralph Macchio got stronger and more agile through performing common maintenance tasks, then got to fight an entire Karate Dojo with lame-arse snake motifs, then got mortally wounded, then came back from the dead and won the Championship. Well this Chook team has no similarities to that story. It's more like Reservoir Dogs where the Chooks are Mr Pink and all the other teams get slaughtered. This movie analogy ain't over yet but I don't like where it's heading.

[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]Anyway, in this match up the Chooks had 27-odd tons and a hand full of 90+ games to put the Packers on the slab with ruthless efficiency. A blue moon from Lynch (146) was a limp parting gift from the hearse.

[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]The Lefties travelled to the hottest place in the universe expecting to walk away with an easy win. The home side had other plans, and deliberately left the iron on in the change rooms just to try and spike the ambient air temp a notch. Gus and Scooter couldn't handle the heat and refused to get off the team bus until after 3pm. To compensate, the Lefties resorted to dirty play and the game got more unsociable than a Malthouse v Stevens press conference. Lewis (150), Gibbo (98) and Mitchell (105) had the umps blinkered for most of the game and bullied Ward and Rich into sub-par efforts. Ryder (104) and steak-knives” Laird (124) were able to hold their heads high for the home side but the rest were all pretty…meh.

    [span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background-color: #fcfcfc;]Football can be a cruel bastard. Just needed to put that out there. The Blimps would have rocked up to this one full of hope and happiness of a young side with a healthy street cred but were ultimately left feeling empty (ha, you thought I was gonna say deflated). With Boomer (107) in his 400th posting the only ton, this game had more regrets than Madam Speaker's rotary wing faux pas. The Devils had a host of stand outs with Petrie's 146 a highlight. The home side defence was spanked by a pretty solid Guim forward set up, but the Blimps midfield couldn't cut it.
