<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]So what happens if you take Ablett out of your SC team? I did decided to find out. This is what I came up with. I am not fully convinced yet, but not that unhappy with the results either.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]Perhaps there are enough DEF cheapies this year to swing a 4th into the mix. For my SC team's current structure I certainly hope so.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #fcfcfc;]I'm counting Smith/Gibson as DEF keepers, with Newnes/Higgins hopefully good enough to stay onfield all season and not miss out on too many points compared to other DEFs. 4 MID keepers plus a mid-pricer (Bontempelli) with a lot of upside, seems like the best way to splash the Ablett cash around at the moment. Finally 2 RUC keepers and[span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #fcfcfc;]3 FWD keepers plus a fallen premium (Swan). That could amount to 14.5 keepers (optimistically), which I'm happy enough with for now.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]My bye structure is currently 8-11-11 which works OK. After R11, trade out 3 guys with a R12 bye for players with a R11 bye, then after R12 trade out 3 players with a R13 bye, etc. Should only have 8 missing due to byes on any given week, leaving two further slots at risk due to injured/dropped players.
    <p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]/Portals/0/Users/222/74/4574/RMT3.JPG
    <p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #fcfcfc;]Just to repeat the ground rules for RMT:
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]1. In order to get feedback on your own team, you must first provide feedback on the teams that have been recently posted. This is the golden rule and is what makes this whole thing work.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]2. If you just post your team without giving any feedback, your post will be deleted.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]3. Please refrain from commenting on teams that have been posted by others that have not followed the golden rule.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]4. Keep it civil. Constructive criticism is fine. But there is a line and please don't cross it.

??? I really don't understand where you are coming from mate. The DPP positioning given by CD is arbitrary and all of the F/M players are really MIDs who we are magically allowed to also use in the FWD line.

In terms of the two cheap F/Ms on my MID line, absolutely I think they will score as well as some of the straight M rookies that I have named.

Bontempelli is only at M5 to start because there are enough good and cheap FWD options that I can't fit them all into my FWD line.

Straight MIDs are better value than F/Ms at the top end of the pay scale. But at the bottom end, they don't necessarily have any better job security or ability to score SC points.

If all of the almost-keeper options Bill listed kick on for 2015 then Bill will probably win the whole damn thing.

Would you like to suggest what the odds of all 10 of the players I named increasing their output by 10 to 15 ppg?

I think your too thin in def and with $17k in the bank doesnt give you much room to play... newnes hopefully can take that next step but higgins seems too pricey for his inconsistency and i dont think a change of environment will fix that with him....i would look at swapping goldstein for the like of minson/Nicnat/mcevoy to free up some cash and then swap higgins for jaensch...reason being goldys output isnt worth $80k more than the 3 named were as jaensch's would be over higgins

      The odds would be huge.
I'm not saying it'd be easy, but AO's analysis from last year proved that its possible.

I was just surprised to see so many DPP's in the mids to start the season.

I'd also expect most to score better than an equivalent forward, but equal-ish to the mids you've left out. Its just because of that, that I'm unsure about so many of them in the mids.

Who knows? I could be very easily be very wrong...

I really like the squad, I am not as sold on Goldy as a lot of others but he isn't lacking quality.

Be wary of Steele, Cameron was pretty clear that the squad named for this NAB round would be the squad from which the Round 1 team was picked, and Steele isn't playing. Given our mid depth that's inevitable for mine and I'd have him as a potential upgrade target if(when) we get injuries.

Structurally the only real problem I see is that with only 17k in the bank and some very cheap rookies picked if they are not named you might have to shuffle more than rookies..

My 1st RMt for the year, have hated all the squads I had with Ablett in, don't mind this one.

      DEFENDERS
      1. Simpson, K 2. Smith, B 3. Newnes, J 4. Hampton, C 5. Jaksch, K 6. Hamling, J
      23. Dalgleish, L 24. Saad, A

      MIDFIELDERS
      7. Rockliff, T 8. Pendlebury, S 9. Selwood, J 10. Jack, K 11. Griffen, R 12. Hallahan, M 13. Anderson, J 14. Heeney, I
      25. Ellis-Yolmen, C 26. Dawson, L 27. Miller, T

      RUCKS
      15. Mumford, S 16. Hickey, T 28. Cox, M

      FORWARDS
      17. Goddard, B 18. Martin, D 19. Bontempelli, M 20. McCarthy, C 21. Clark, M 22. Lonie, J
      29. Hogan, J 30. Lamb, T

$68k left, probably be used to upgrade Hickey but waiting for the R1 squads in case I need it for spackfiller.

I dumped Hampton from the ORFFL because while he is talented I don't see SC as being his thing. Lumumba or Higgins in their new roles I can see upside, but I'm not seeing it from Curtly.

I think your structure is out of whack if you have a $260k player in there. Jaksch has a career high of 64SC. You might be better off with Nathan Brown, at least he will make you about 80k on his start price.

Maybe drop Jaksch and McCarthy down to cheaper options and spend the extra $$ to upgrade Hallahan. All of these guys are just awkwardly priced and I would avoid anyone between 150k and 400k without a really good reason for picking them.

Curtly is seriously under-rated, his first season earnt him the nick of 'wtf', but last year prior to injury he showed real promise and run off the back line. Happy to back him in if he is given that role this weekend, if not I'll look elsewhere.

Jaksch, like O'Rourke and a number of others, including Miles, has shown huge promise since leaving the giants, he can play the third defender very well and his NAB scores are impressive, def is a shambles for me this year so I may still switch him.

McCarthy is a lock, even at that price, he is a player 'right out of the box', be very surprised if he isn't our leading goal kicker at the end of the year tbh.

Take your point re risk of all 4 working out, but will probably start with at least 3 of them, I am dumb like that..

Guns and rookies. Just doesn't have room for multiple players in the 150k to 400k bracket. You could use the spare cash from your last 'half' a premium perhaps on a mid-pricer, but not as many as you have.

Where's Terry when you need him. He tried mid-priced madness one SC not that long ago as I recall. Let's ask him how that turned out?

Pretty sweet team Jase, and I don't mind the Bont mid pick. Been chopping and changing him and Mitchell for the last few months. Bont def has more upside for mine.
Some massive points up for grabs at the kennel and you'd expect Bont to be near the top of the queue after his efforts last yr. Can't see any 2nd yr blues here.

As a port man I love Gray to death but I am not convinced he will repeat last yrs scoring. Had some great last quarter contributions which look set to be diluted this yr.
Will he be a top 10 fwd? You bet. I just see better value in these other blokes in the $530-550K range.

Higgins scares me, but i'm sure i'm not alone there. At his price, there's no bigger torment in SC.
Freeman looking less likely for rnd 1, Krakouer easy replacement.
      Solid bye structure there.

Kudos for getting these threads going and hanging it out there.

Goddard said tonight that Edwards was training as a forward and highly unlikely to play in round 1.

Even if an M/F and a M are the same price, score the same and go up the same amount, it can be better to start with the M/F in the midfield if there's no space in the forward line as he's more likely to end up top 6 whereas the M is less likely to end up top 8.

The 'rule' about midfield being filled with M-only players only applies when you have a fully upgraded team (or, more precisely, from the point when you've finished your forward or backline). Up until then, value is value, and the ability to finish in the top echelon in your position is attractive no matter where you start.

      Just my two cents :)

I really don't get the Mummy love? Yes he smashed it against the teams GWS will play again at the start of this season. But Champion Data have stated that if the new points system was applied to last years stats, Mumford's average would fall by a huge 12.5 points! If that's not enough to scare you off, then there's the minimum 4 games he misses every season. Why on earth would you not pick NicNat?

Everyone is going on about how crap defense rookies are, but look at your standard squads and most are fielding mid rookies Heeney and Anderson. These 2 are massive vest candidates and as such are not worth a start. I think you need to spend up on mid rooks such as Cripps and Newton.

I don't think it's valid to apply the 2014 tap outcomes to Mumford, collectively the GWS mids will be better this year than in 2014 and his hitout to advantage can only go up.

Unfortunately can't argue with the missing games but at least Mumford has had a full pre-season, NN has not. Hoping that NN has a big game this weekend as I would love him at 2nd ruck.

Same scaremongering could be applied to Naitanui's lack of preseason. Why on earth would you pick a player who hasn't been on the track for weeks?
