    @bryzza

The Vikings are making use of the solid foundation they had laid early in the match and have now taken the lead and are looking comfortable

    Nuytsland 778/9/86 lead Serengeti 768/10/77

The tortoise and hare races continue between Gisborne and Coolgardie. The tortoise has the lead, but who has the advantage? @JPK

At The Stadium, we have a thriller with the Barcrawlers leading the visiting Crocs 13/1040 to 13/1004.
In that quarter, Hanley 100 and Greenwood 88 in his 1st game back, for Banchang held sway over Libba 98 and Martin 72

The final quarter sees Banchang's Dahlhaus and Impey +36 pts up against Gunston and Worpel for Cow Bay.

The round’s close finishes also look like playing out at Xmas Island where it’s currently:

    CIS: 1140/14 (81.4)
    SCS: 1020/13 (78.5)

The final stanza sees Isaac Smith and 120 points for the home team against Mitch Duncan and Joel Selwood for the Gropers.

The Whalers hold a slender lead at the final break with Scully and 33 points to hold off Morrison, Breust and Atkins. Given recent form of Hughenden this might be enough!

The Grenades are 1225/14/87.5. Huge game from SPS trying to pull the team over the line.
The Prospectors are 939/12/78.3. The Touk Touk just keeps plodding along

    So it's
    286 + T. Kelly vs Sicily, Parfitt and O'Meara. Anyone's game really! @JPK

R5 - Korumburra Blowflys v King Island Monarchs

    Progress report from the Terrordome.

In a see-sawing affair early, the Blowflys jumped out of the blocks early only to see the Monarchs fight back and get their noses in front at 3/9 time.

After taking a good hard look at themselves, Korumburra have found that intestinal fortitude to fight back, grind their way in front and now despite being down 53 points, take a 3-1 player advantage into the final stanza...

    1/9 = KB 159/2/79 v KIM 128/2/64

    3/9 = KB 379/5/76 v KIM 385/5/77

    4/9 = KB 601/7/86 v KIM 545/8/68

    6/9 = KB 947/11/86 v KIM 637/9/71

    8/9 = KB 1072/12/89 v KIM 1125/14/80

    The final equation = KB 1072 + Ablett + Henry + Menegola v KIM 1125 + Henderson

and despite some miscalculations along the way from our drunken scorekeeper, the end result looks secured and the celebrations have started very early at the Terrordome...

In a classic case of don’t count your chickens while drunk, this one is going down to the wire!!

For the visitors Henderson is having a blinder - somebody sit on him!! The home side will need a lift from Menegola and Henry + some more vintage magic from the little master...

    Here we go!!...

Despite the dominance of old man Henderson, the other old man (Ablett) showing us he’s still got the goods was enough to lift the home side to roughly a 20 point victory in a nail biter at the Terrordome!

    Match report to follow... @Tylo

In a nail biting finish at The Stadium, the local Barcrawlers have prevailed over an under-manned Crocs outfit by 1189-1175.
With a deficit of 36 going into the last quarter, Worpel 101 and Gunston 70 tried hard to get the job done for Cow Bay but Banchang's Dahlhaus 86 and Impey 63, a late call up for the injured Barrass, were able to hold on.
It was a tough way to lose your first game of the season having one of your forwards come down with Banchang Belly and being a late out, and Cow Bay's Manager @fresh can feel hard done by.
But in a spirit of co-operation, both Clubs have agreed to travel in the same aircraft to Perth in readiness for Rd6 where Cow Bay will then travel to Nuytsland to face the all conquering Vikings and Banchang head to the goldfields of Coolgardie to battle the Prospectors.

The Vikings have run out comfortable winners 1299 - 1144 over the hometown Buffaloes.

An actual ruckman and more consistency in the bottom half of the squad has proved decisive as Nuytsland heads back to the mainland of Oz with 4 more points in the bag.

Hughenden have done enough to fall over the line with their first unconvincing win of the season.

Gisborne Grenades 1354 defeated Coolgardie Prospectors 1167 @JPK

With an extended round and shortened break between rounds threatening to play havoc on ORFFU team selections, coming out of these two rounds unscathed is a major step in the right direction. Gisborne managed to do just that, and more, but Coolgardie will be ruing inconsistency across the lines resulting in a middling score.

The Grenades only had 3 tons in the winning team, surprising given it was the highest FU score for the round. Ellis-Yolmen impressed with 108, filling in for Seedsman but pressing his case for a regular spot. Kelly dominated in the forward line with 129, continuing his up and down season, but the most impressive performance was the 136 from Petrevski-Seton. Part of a trade with Ararat from the 2017 pre-season and yet to really hit his straps, the coaching staff are hoping that this breakout game form continues all season long. There wasn't much bad for the Grenades on the flipside, with only 1 score under 65. Laird still needs a kick up the bum and if he starts scoring like last year (with Milera out now) then the weak Gisborne defence suddenly gets strong.

The Prospectors actually had 4 tons, more than the Grenades, but still managed to lose by near 200 points. Sicily's 117 and MacMillan's 103 held the backline together, rebounding the Gisborne forward presses time and time again. A strong midfield performance (all above 90) was led by Mr Fine himself Wines' 110, a consistent but not match-winning performance in that area for the Prospectors. It was past this point on the field that the wheels slightly fell off. Orazio was the only foward to make a real impact with his 130 damaging the scoreboard, and despite improvements from Brown the ruck, forward and interchange lines were major disappointments. Coolgardie scored more tons, but also had 6 scores under 65 which didn't help the push to 3 wins at all. Coaches will be hoping Stef Martin rediscovers his best touch, and does so soon!

Coolgardie have a solid team this year, but unfortunately much like India lack a real middle-class, forcing the upper-class point scorers to drag along the lower-class. With consistent performances throughout the year they will win games, and there is still improvement to be had in many players. Considering this, the Prospectors are definitely a chance to push for top 8 selection, especially if that lower-class has an uprising. They head home as underdogs to face a vastly improved Barcrawlers outfit.
