Round 3 – AFL Round 3 Date: Thursday 1st April 2021 THEME - Walesy Appreciation Round We all appreciate Walesy, our kindly overseer and all round tip top guy as he continues to ensure the Too Serious site runs as smoothly and efficiently as the 2020 AFL season. No obstacle will ever get in his way when it comes to running a well-organised fantasy-centric website, nothing will stop him ever making his deliveries on time - neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the .... oh, hold on, lapsed into something else entirely there. Anyway, hooray for Walesy. Hooray! The Nuffers have named the following Round 3 side We take on Marble Bar @Len bolstered by the return of Jack Petrucelle as an out of position ruck but Ben Long has been dropped by St Kilda and takes a seat as the medical sub leaving our defence even further in disarray as wek seek to avoid our 9th consecutive ORFFA loss.
Cradle Mountain Devils Round 3 team and progress score No change Def: D Rich 122, J Lever, M O’Connor, H Cunningham 40 (L Brown) Mid: J Steele 132, S Pendlebury 105, J Hopper, J Gresham 20 (J Redden) Ruc: T English 85 Fwd: D Zorko 115, L Breust, T Lynch 69, T Membrey 70 (A Naughton) Int: T Nankervis 103, Z Jones 45 (S McAdam) Mount Beauty won the battle of the Mountain Men in Round 2, defeating Cradle Mountain by 200 points. The eighth placed Devils made no changes for the Round 3 road game against the seventh placed Cows with both sides having one win and loss in the first two rounds and looked evenly matched for their Round 3 encounter. It was a shoot-out until the end of Good Friday with Cradle Mountain 496/5 leading Waikikamoocow 398/4, however this pace wasn’t maintained on Easter Saturday with the scoring output dropping and three midfielders suffering injuries comprised of two Devils – Jade Gresham (Achilles) and Zak Jones (ankle) and one Cow – Dion Prestia (hamstring). Greaham will miss the rest of the 2021 ORFFA season due to his right Achilles injury. Cow forward Josh Dunkley and Devils midfielder Jack Steele each scored 132 points to lead the scoring so far followed by CMD defender Daniel Rich (122) and two rival small forwards tied for third with 115 in Cow Tom Papley and Devil Dayne Zorko. Cradle Mountain 906/11 Average of 82.4 have J Lever and J Hopper playing today followed by M O’Connor and L Bruest Waikikamoocow 792/10 Average of 79.2 are having Easter Sunday off and will attempt to reel in the Devils lead on Easter Monday with H Morrison, T Mitchell, B Parfitt, D Howe and S Menegola. Cradle Mountain hold a slight lead late in the third quarter however I expect the remaining Cows to score more points per player than their Devils counterparts and close the gap to set up a thrilling finish.
T'was not be @dmandrews - the cows have suffered from the recent drought and are but a shadow of their former selves. Ironic that O'Çonnor went big which almost enabled the glamas (in ORFFL) to peg back TiB. Your Demons look like the goods even with Jade G out for an extended period. Hope you keep the run of form going.
Nuffers narrowly avoid a 600 point defeat to the Misfits @Len while the bookies have paid out early on anyone holding a betting ticket for the Nuffers to finish last in 2021 and bottom 2 in each of the remaining years of the decade.
Looks like the Vultures picked a good week to return to our form of 2019, winning the original Battle of the Bays. The emergence of Kozzie Pickett a highlight of our season so far.
Apols bandit, round 3 and the injury stick is out in force. Daily teams didn’t help but a little bit of Hayden and Brander wouldn’t have made any difference.
An ignorant response @TerryinBangkok Clearly the makeover of the Nuffers since mid 2018 has been doing something, most likely twice as much as any other team (apart from trade junkies) due to the state of neglect the list was in at that time. Fight is exactly what we have done throughout whilst we have now worked our way down to the 3rd youngest list around that has been a managed process as we don’t see much fairness to the 17 other sides in stripping the list back in one go to the point where we field 7-10 18 year olds each week and fail to break 500 points more regularly than not. While my point may be lost on many or most here there is a choice of whether the participants of the FA want a balanced dynasty league or not, clearly over the duration of 9 plus years it is now badly out of kilter. As I have shared with @Bandit and others my stewardship of the Nuffers was only ever intended to be short term for 12-18 months to create some order. When I do depart (shortly) it is likely to be a pretty tough sell in my view to get someone to take on the team unless they fail to undertake ANY due diligence or are happy to sit at the bottom until mid decade. In my view having held the reigns (poorly or not is not my call to make not that I could care in the slightest) the least the competition leadership SHOULD do if they wish to maintain 18 teams is to provide a significant sweetener to new ownership of cellar dwellers teams in the form of concessions to expedite the rate of improvement otherwise likely to occur.
my apologies for the over-reaction then mate I can assure you my original comment was neither a reflection or being down nor exasperated, just calling it as I see it without the need to look ahead to any fixes of the current predicament
Thanks @graeme. The Cows may have suffered from the recent drought however they are still averaging 1,248 points per game in 2021 which is only 56 points less than the top ranked Gundagai Grasshoppers. Prestia and Fyfe have both suffered injuries in games and fellow Cows midfielders Brad Crouch and Menegola have missed multiple games so there is ample scope for improvement. Graeme hopefully the Cows have a good run with health for the remainder of the 2021 season. The Devils vs Cows game was pre-season trade acquisition Mark O’Connor’s second game for CMD so Geelong’s move of MOC to that of a tagger in the past two games has been very good timing with him scoring a new career best 121 supercoach points in Round 3 playing most of the game on Tom Mitchell. Graeme, you would have had split feelings on this role of O’Connor on Mitchell given that it helped your Glamas but hurt your Cows. Jade Gresham being out for the rest of the season is a blow however you have to expect some significant injuries during the season, it increases the importance of fellow Cradle Mountain midfielders Dyson Heppell and Zak Jones to have an injury-free run. In good news for the Devils forward/ruck Rowan Marshall makes his return this week.
