It's all over bar the shouting at 8/9th time here at the Terrordome, as the Blowflys (and most of the visiting Crocs) have begun filtering off the field and heading to the bar!

With Korumburra's Menegola ruled out by the medical staff, unable to recover from a shoulder injury in time, it leaves only Cow Bay's Jordan Clark, Dylan Moore, Worpel and Ceglar to roll the ball back up the proverbial hill...

Update from the Dino Dome, in a low scoring affair, sees the visitors in front:-

    SFB 1009/14/72
    HPD 856/12/71

The final 1/9th will see HPD’s Shiels, Morrison & Breust try and chase down SFB’s lead of 153 and McEvoy to come.

Match Report: Eden 1176 vs Serengeti 1242
In a close game, the Whalers tried to get a win for the coach's return. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough. When the ball was in the midfield it was usually won by the Buffalos who had much better consistency. Then there was Ridley playing the Centre-half-back rebound role to a tee.
On the positives, Papley scored well in the midfield and KKP will probably get the award for most improved with a 121.

Sorry @DamoH I spent most of the Easter weekend away from home, and updates through the phone are just a pain in the proverbial.

    Anyway...

Christmas Island were so confident of the win this week, that they came waltzing into the Goldfields with only 14 men, and whats more, the confidence was well founded as they caught the Prospectors chowing down on too much chocolate.

    upload_2021-4-6_8-21-57.png

It was an absolute deplorable effort by the boys from Coolgardie, with no-one really doing anything of note until Jaeger O'Meara tried to drag the team over the line in the last stanza, but unfortunately he fell 38 points short.

On the other side of the coin, the Smugglers coaching staff would have been riding the rollercoaster of successes and failures all over the field, with four tons (Lever, Redden, Pittonet, and Stringer), and two sub-50 scores (an OOP Hall, and Daniels) combining with the one-man-down donut to add to the coaches concerns.

In the end the Smugglers were just too good, with too many solid performances, outclassing the mediocre Prospectors with one cricketing wicket in hand.

The ruck battle saw an easy win for the visiting M Pittonet over the make-shift ruck in D Astbury, by 67.5 points, 100 to 32.5.

The votes would have been all CIS, if it wasn't for Jaeger, but he helped to make it the "J" show...
    3 - J O'Meara, Coolgardie, 142 points.
    2 - J Stringer, Christmas Island, 124 points.
    1 - J Lever, Christmas Island, 111 points.

Next up sees the budgies back home on Christmas Island, hosting the puppies from Hughenden, while the Prospectors are on the road to visit the biggest losers in Ararat. Good luck to all four teams.

Blanchetown Bunyips 1034 Def Pakenham Parasites 915

The Yips have recorded their first and maybe last win of the season!

Even with 2 midfielders, we have chalked up a mediocre score to get the win. The visiting Parasites had two players crack the ton with Gaff leading the way in mids with a handy 128. No rucks for the visitors and just a whole heap of average scores for both teams sums up the weekend.

    BOG - Gaff - 128
    Walsh - 124
    Obrien/Newnes - 101

Big Tap goes to Obrien with his biggest score for the year against Max King.

    Is it draft time yet?

    Different year, same result...

@insider ‘s visiting Ararat Armadillos (1386/15/94) defeated Southern Cross (1355/15/90) by 31 points.

In a match where both sides scored freely, the two best scoring players for each team, Lachie Fogarty (163) & Brodie Grundy (162) for the home side and Max Gawn (163) & Jack Ziebell (155) for the visitors, contributed almost a quarter of their team’s total match score; with both Fogarty & Ziebell posting likely career-best numbers.

Both teams were effected by injury with Ararat losing Perryman to illness before the first bounce and then Higgins to injury late in the last quarter; Southern Cross meanwhile, lost Prestia to injury late in the first quarter.

A Herculean performance from Armadillo Max Gawn (163) saw him take out both the BOG honours (by virtue of being the visiting player) and, the Giant Tap win over Brodie Grundy by a point in what was a battle for the ages.

The Sandgropers displayed their consistency with only 2 players scoring under 78 points and the team scoring around the mid 1300’s for the third match in a row. With Fyfe, Rowbottom and a defender to return, management are confident the team is on the right track and should be shaping the finals series this season.

Next up Southern Cross will be travelling to Horsham to take on @Wolffy84 ‘s injury hit Grenades, a side that’s still reeling from the last minute relocation from Gisborne, whilst the Armadillos will be hosting the other goldfields tenant @JPK ‘s Coolgardie Prospectors.

    Go Sandgropers!!!

ROUND 3 - Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,120 defeat Staghorn Flat Bulls 1,103

It was a close contest all game with the Bulls holding a a sizable lead going into the last 1/9th of the game but the Hughenden trio of Morrison (89), Breust (87) and Shiels(88) were able to pull the home team over the line despite the heroic efforts of McEvoy (94).

The game was soured early with the injury to Coniglio (26) and with other players not stepping up in the midfield the Bulls were always going to struggle in the engine room despite the McEvoy ruck advantage over the Hughenden stand in of Berry (29) who was no match.

There was no standout player in the game which was a reflection of the tight contest, with both teams’ turnovers costing them dearly. Hughenden will be happy with the win with Staghorn disappointed to let a sizable lead slip and lose such a tight contest.

    BAFFU Awards
    3 Mills, Hughenden (109)
    2 IQ, Hughenden (103)

It's 1/4 time at The Stadium in this RD4 clash between the Barcrawlers and the visiting Barracudas, with the local team getting off to a good start and sitting at 3/255/85, thanks to Sam Reid's season high 131.
Groote Eyelandt aren't far behind on 2/163/81.5, with Lloyd 95, slightly down on his average, and 1st yr player Gulden with 68.

It's 1/2 time at The Stadium and the 2nd qtr was a pretty lacklustre affair apart from Houli scoring 101 in his comeback game for the visitors.

Meanwhile on a neighbouring oval, Jonas and Hartlett scored 182 between them in defence for the magoos, both putting their hand up for selection next week....

Current score Banchang lead Groote Eyelandt 5/443/88.6 to 5/390/78

3/4 time at The Stadium and we've got a real pressure cooker going here.
The visiting Barracudas are leading the home team 10/885 to 10/884.
Groote Eyelandt had stars all over the ground in this qtr with McGovern(100) down back, Bont(116) and Paddy(99) in the middle, and Naughton(110) up front, all contributing well to their scorecard.
Meanwhile Banchang were well served by Greenwood (155) who did a job on Cripps keeping him to 99, ever reliable Lyons with 113, but disappointed with the defence, and Adams (62) going down with injury in this qtr didn't help.
It comes down to Banchang's Doedee, McAdam, Cunnington, L D-U, and Langdon to get 2 points more than Groote's Atley, Kolodjashnij, Guthrie, Stanley and Hawkins, and secure the 4 pts for the home team.

    Delayed Round 2 Match Report
Cow Bay 1,120 def by Coolgardie 1,147

After last year's budget cuts cutting into the comms department and a delay in hiring and new employees commencing at Cow Bay HQ, the round 2 match report was one of many pieces of work that were hit by the backlog.

After a couple of years of top 8 finishes, hopes were high for Cow Bay this year to show a little more improvement. Instead fans have been left feeling frustrated and disgruntled. A large crowd saw the home side struggle through the match, with a number of players below their best, and go down by 27 points to the Prospectors.

Just 2 Crocs managed to hit triple figures: Wilkie (112) and the reliable Libba (100). The backline fell apart during the match with Noble (68), Clark (67) and McPherson (19) being told to hang their heads in shame in the rooms after the match. The opportunity to stop a late flurry of goals proved too much for these 3, mental resilience training will be on the cards for these folks. The midfield were average at best, with Hopper (76) being the best mid on the day. The lack of support saw clearance after clearance being lost to the visitors. The forwards pushed up the ground to win the ball and DeGoey (99), Bolton (88) and Martin (83) tried to lift their teammates without much luck.

Coolgardie started very slow but inspirational groundbreaking speeches at each break lifted the Prospectors' spirits. You could see the glint in their eyes that they knew things would pan out for them. After a few minor issues in the first third of the game, the mids dug themselves out of a hole and picked apart the opposition with Miller (131) and Wines (104) leading the way strongly. Feeling shafted after controversial free kicks being paid against them, Short (120) and Aliir Aliir (90) - so good you have to say his name twice - were pillars down back. Serong (93) was more than handy off the bench but Larkey (34) and McInerney (45) seemed to be running coal.

In the end, a 27 point victory to the Prospectors earned them their first victory of the year while the Crocs licked their wounds.

Progress score from the Horsham vs Southern Cross game:

Horsham: 601 from 7 players (86 average) but playing 2 short this week so only 6 players to go
Southern Cross: 833 from 12 players (69 average) with 3 players to go

Billings (120), Lambert (103), Hoskin-Elliot (103) the best so far for Horsham with Docherty (109) and Grundy (92) the best so far for Southern Cross.

    @Wolffy84 Match Report

    Vikings Def Grenades

Down at the "Graveyard" for the second straight week Vikings felt like the could get on a roll welcoming big time Captain Shuey into the mix, boy he did not disappoint blitzing out of the center square giving our forwards every opportunity to score. Duncan and Viney holding down equally as good supporting roles dominating the midfield battle, while Greene and up incomer Warner rotated forward and midfield as to not want to miss out on getting leather poisoning. Hurn played his role down back intercepting any forward entries while opposition defender Jones couldn't help but get plenty of the ball as it down there 80% of the time. As for the Grenades its what could have been if those players who had decent starts just needed to find a bit more of the ball to make it a contest, compounding issues Witts injury will hit hard.

In the end Vikings had a comfortable win but sad news Shuey in for one game injuring his hamstring out for 10

Latest update is Horsham with an 80 point lead with Wilson and Hughes v Selwood, Fyfe and Phillips. I suspect you will just get up but I really didn't expect things to be close when Hoskin-Elliot was on no points at half time.

The sooner this round is over the better. My team chokes It when 30+ points up AND I had to listen to Gary Lyon’s comments throughout the match :(.

Needless to say we won’t be reviewing the tape this week, it’s just one of those performances all teams have at some stage.

Full time at The Stadium and Groote Eyelandt have had a well deserved win over the local Barcrawlers 1290-1285.
The Barracudas were much too strong in the final qtr with Guthrie (105) Atley (96) and Kolodjashnij (93) leading the way, while Doedee (114) and Langdon (104) tried hard for the home team, but lacked help when it was needed.
Next round sees Groote Eyelandt return home to host Cow Bay while Banchang travel down south to play Nuytsland.

    2. Reid 131 (BB)
    1. Bontempelli 116 (GEB)
