Review courtesy of @TerryinBangkok Who is in the mood for finals? Many moons ago before fantasy footy was invented, the Beach Boys did a number called Heroes and Villains. The theme for this report. Why you ask? It was apparent from the performances that having more tons than your opponent doesn’t necessarily equate to a win. The key to success is an even spread, minimizing villains. Will this stand up in finals? This was ORFFA Round 16, held in honor of Dane Swan – the original ink. Larrikin Lagoon Lefties 1168 defeated, yes, defeated Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles 1136 Heroes for the winners: Thomas the tank engine, you bloody beauty. Villains: Ham and Eggs and izak didn’t get the memo, but the coach is so blotto he doesn’t care. How the world changes, from no rucks @That KI Guy now has two onfield. Heroes for the Cows: ROB and TMitch. Villains: Looking at you Brad Crouch. The Cows will have to limp home without Fyfe – all in all a disappointing year, @graeme in it for the fun this season. Venus Bay Vultures 1368 defeated Lovely Banks Lilacs 1081 Ruthless as ever, heroes for @Fitzy were Crisp, Parker, O’Meara, Gaff, Yeo, big Oscar and Fiorini. The coach brushed off a donut as one might swat a fly. No villains really. For @Jen, heroes were Butler, Stewart and Rampe. No ruck was a killer. Villains: Parish, Bolton and the coach. A donut up forward that could have been covered by 7-goal Larkey. Mount Beauty Uglies 1221 defeated by GariwerdCockatoos 1481 @Ant making his run with the top score. Heroes: Drew (forget the fab 3, just watch this unsung hero go next year), Hall, Wingard, JPK, Touk, Guthrie, Laird. Villains: maybe Birchall? For the Uglies, @bama had Maynard, Gawn, Sides and Rioli in his new role down back. Villains: Zurhaar. Walsh and the Tractor were below par. Birdsville Battlers 1050 defeated by NareewillokNuffers1057 @JC tipped it and @chris88 has lost his cherry. Match of the round. For the Battlers, heroes all over the Park: Doedee, Hunter, Cerra, BSmith, Sheed and Moore. Villains:The normally super reliable Trent McKenzie. For the grinners, Serong and Gulden and the move to stick Harry OOP in ruck won the match. Villains: Alex Keath. So good to see the Association’s trouble child get on the board. The only way from here is up. Cradle Mountain Devils 1323 defeated GundagaiGrasshoppers 1281 A clinical win to @dmandrews. Heroics from Rich, Lever, Steele, Jones and Heppell. Villains: an injured Pendles. @snozhasn’t been having one of his usual dominant seasons, either here or SC. Hopper heroes: Dawson, Weitering, Powell, Oliver, McCluggage. Villains: the one man ambulance, Lachie Neale. Nowhere Else Wanderers 1095 defeated by Wineglass Bay Packers 1173 Lyons and Green okay for @DaveH, while the injured Walters covering for the disappearing Cogs got a bit messy. Resurgent Packers chalking up some good ones. Heroes for @Tracey: Wilson, Stephenson, Taylor, Lloyd and Helmut. Villains: none really – pretty even performance. Can Mummy keep getting up? WaggaWagga Wombats 1082 defeated by Marble Bar Misfits 1295 Wayne Carey (a Wagga boy) will be tearing his hair out. @Lenny120 seems to do it every year. So much promise, only to fade at the end. For the vanquished, Ridley the lone hero. Hunt OOP. Villains: Langdon and Pickett not good enough. @Len that even performance we were talking about. Heroes: Hickey, Whitfield, Nic Nat. Villains: has Mundy spent all his heroics? Foul Bay Chickens 1369 defeated Iron Knob Codpieces 998 Not sure @ChiefRussell will appreciate being flag favouritewhen he is really only half way through his rebuild. Heroes (age shall not weary them): McEvoy, Libba, Kelly, Goldy, Danger, Hawkins, Snelling. Villains: Dougs and Jelwood. @jimbowan had a nice one from Max King and a return to form by Macrae. The donuts and OOP did not help, as did the 17 from Tipper. Charlie’s Opening Spelunkers 1201 defeated Whitsunday Worriers 1074 Into the heart of darkness. Whatever happened to the “get stuffed everyone” expert tanker cum nice guy of 2020?Only a brace of tons compared to the Worriers with Bont and Brayshaw. Zerrett has copped a talking to. For Whitsunday heroes: Dixon, JJK, Wines, Boak and Andrews. No ruck didn’t help and JJ gets a dreadful while Jake Kelly was merely awful. May all your concussed, isolated or otherwise wounded players return this week
Fantastic review, so good on so many levels. God Only Knows how it turned out this way for the cows. All went downhill after I de-listed Willem Drew. If fun is counting the outs, then I am knee deep in it @TerryinBangkok . Heroes and Villains - one of my favourite Beach Boy tracks. Geez, Brian Wilson was a genius. And admit to having a Van Dyke Parks album.
Thanks KI, bloody Shaun Higgins and Chris Scott with their late outs... Was nice to have Fiorini play, had high hopes of him being a premium player but doesn't seem to get a run, was close to being delisted so was good to be rewarded with a great score. Also some youth in the team with a Durham debut to partner Stocker in the back 50.
An entertaining read, as always, @TerryinBangkok . The Battlers shit show of a season continues. "Heroes all over the park" - well, based on the performances of many Battlers over the course of this season, my lot seem to gravitate to Bowie's version of 'Heroes': "We can be heroes, just for one day". Thanks again, TiB.
