Final result from the Horsham V King Island match with the Monarchs taking an easy 293 point win (1207 vs 914), with the winner decided quite early, following some poor opening performances for Horsham.

King Island were well lead by Macrae (142), Kennedy (107) and Green (106). Supporting performances from Nash (86), Lipinski (86), Haynes (84) and Gardiner (82) made sure the result was never in doubt.

Horsham's young side clearly celebrated their round one win way too hard, with disappointing scores from many of the players that contributed to the win. Drew (98), Harmes (96) and Caldwell (90) were very good, but there were way too many passengers.

J Witts (HH) defeated T Hickey (KIM) 75 to 73

Next round King Island host Banchang and Horsham travel to Groote Eylandt.

1/9th of the way through the game in Coolgardie, and the visiting Bulls have the lead. @tyze1
Meanwhile Laitham Vandermeer has decided to give me a huge single-finger salute for choosing to drop him, scoring 101 points. Ouch!

Round 2 - Southern Cross Sandgropers 910/10/91 defeated by Serengeti Buffalos 1329/15/89

Full time at the Sandpit and @wrightbrendan 's visiting Buffalos have spanked the Sandgropers by 419 points.

In what's turning out to be an annus horriblis (thanks Ross) for Southern Cross, we entered the match with only 10 fit players and absolutely no chance of competing with a resurgent Serengeti.

Outstanding efforts by Neale (198), Cumming (127), Rich (124), Rioli (117), Grundy (101) and Docherty (100), kept things interesting early, but any resistance was futile as the Buffalos feasted on an undermanned Sandgropers outfit.

Their stars came to play, with Kelly (117), Merrett (117), Parish (110), Lycett (109), May (108) and Ridley (102) all saluting, and ably supported by the rest of the side.

The win would be slightly soured by the loss of Thomas & Merrett for a while, but strength in depth will see the Buffalos being competitive each round as they push on to the finals.

Southern Cross were hoping for some positive news this week, but COVID and injuries have again left the club with only 10 fit players and staring down the barrel of a third consecutive loss and a position on the bottom of the ladder.

Round 3 sees the Buffalos travel to Hughenden to take on @Batfink 's Huskies and Southern Cross hit the road, travelling to Blanchetown to take on @martyg 's Bunyips in what is a battle of the cellar dwellers.

    R2 Match Report - Korumburra Blowflys (7th) defeated Pearcedale Panthers (12th) 1300 - 1018

There was a highly optimistic buzz about the place as the Blowflys prepared to open their home account for season 2022, with superstar spearhead Lance Franklin on the verge of creating history in the small town. The pumped up home crowd wasn't disappointed as the local side ran away with a resounding victory against the visiting Panthers, on the back of a seemingly endlesss supply of footy from the gun midfielders and the great showman delivering the goods.

It all started in the middle, the domination lead by the machine that is Travis Boak (156) - this champion seems to be aging like a fine wine. Sloane (100) was his brilliant self before being subbed out with the game under control. Jack Steele (111) didn't even bother taking a mark, this beast just loves doing the tough stuff. Another man not shy to get his hands dirty, Josh Dunkley (97) knocked up finding the ball rotating between the midfield and the forward half. For the visitors it was young Will Brodie (101) who can hold his head high after working hard all day relishing his preferred midfield role.

Former Blowfly, Sean Darcy (72) was typically oaf like but solid in the ruck against his old side, narrowly out tapping his former mentor and sparring partner, in former BAFFU winner Goldstein (70). He must've missed the familiar warm hands of local physio / masseuse / korean BBQ chef extraordinaire, Tim Bong Still, as he seemed to almost welcome his standard injury on these hallowed grounds. On this occasion, coming in the familiar form of a rolled ankle for this unfortunate large unit. The pleasant surprise for the home side has been the rapid rise of young Tristan Xerri (120) who looks a handy successor to the KB ruck mantle.

In defence for Korumburra, Howe (107) was spectacular, intercepting everything that came his way. Former midfield bull, JPK (95) is being trialled as a wise old head down back and so far it's seeming to work. For Pearcedale, Daniel Rioli (111) did a great job shutting down Michael Walters and providing plenty of rebound alongside Brodie Smith (97) and his super boot.

The one man they couldn't stop on this glorious day was the great Lance "Budwah" Franklin who notched up his 4th goal for the day and 7,882*nd for his career! *including juniors where he announced himself as a man amongst boys kicking a lazy 912 goals in his first season, leading the KB under 10's to their first flag in 57 years.

As the superstar sent his 4th snag through the big tongs in the last quarter, the rabid locals swarmed the ground just to get near this gargantuan of the game. The outrageous celebrations started immediately as the game was called. There was barely a dry eye or a clean nose to be seen amongst the multitude of teaming local watering holes, house parties and backyard doof tents for the next few days and nights. Some fervent supporters are still partying hard as you read this... good times...

    @ron swanson

    3 - Travis Boak (KB) 156
    2 - Tristan Xerri (KB) 120
    1 - Jack Steele (KB) 111
    1 - Daniel Rioli (PEP) 111

It's Korumburra storming out of the blocks to build an early lead 1/3 of the way into the match against the visiting Dillos.

Boak and Dunkley again prominent early for the home side, Gawn and Treloar linking up well for the visitors.

If possible I’ll move Daicos from I/C to M to replace Tim Kelly. Then Dougal Howard comes in on the bench from I/C EMG.

    That's a negative.
I've been screwed over with both Duggan and Waterman being outs, and would happily take Vandermeer's 101 points, but no, not a rolling lockout this week.

Korumburra have run out of puff against the visiting Dillos, with nothing left in the tank at 8/9th time. The home side's strategy was always to go hard early and run them off their legs - now it's time to see if they can hold on! It's been a dour slog and now the Flys have to wait and see if their solid but far from spectacular posted score is going to be enough against Ararat finishing with all the run!

For KB, Walters and Taberner are watching on from the sidelines, wishing they could impact the final result. It seems like the Dillo's Andrew Brayshaw and Luke Ryan are the only players out there still moving! These 2 guns will need to score 287 between them FTW = 143 a piece!! Both are capable at their best, so this one's not over yet...

Serengeti Buffalos 1,289 def Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,099

The locals started a player short due to H & S protocols and it just went downhill from there with the visiting Buffalos putting on clinic for the locals as they intimidated and destroyed an insipid Hughenden.

The only highlight for the P Dogs was Oliver (146) who had no tag and seemed to be everywhere, the only problem was the rest of the Prairie Dog team were nowhere to be seen. Serengeti took complete control in the ruck with Lycett (112) taking apart Ratugolea (24) with the mids taking full advantage – Dangerfield (92) and Parish (97). The key difference was the stronger rebounding defence of May (114) and Ridley (115) propelling the ball back to the forward line where Daniher (102), Cameron (106) and newcomer Switowski (84) easily converted every opportunity which came their way.

Hughenden coaching staff are under the pump and pondering why some players remain on the list while the Buffalos rampage continues, winning their first 3 games and return home to host the unbeaten Monarchs.

Hughenden take a long flight to the island of the Barracuda where they hope to turn their season around with a miracle.

    BAFFU Awards
    3 Oliver (146)
    2 Ridley (115)
    1 May (114)

    Big Tap
    Lycett (112) to Ratugolea (24)
