    Round 8 – AFL Round 8
    Date: Friday 6th May
    THEME – Mark Seaby Round

400 years from now, amidst the smouldering wreckage of human civilisation, one man will rise from the rubble, football in hand, a saviour and a fearless leader.

That man? A re-incarnated Mark Seaby. And nearby? The descendants of the original coaches of Birdsville and Foul Bay engage in a desperate knife fight to again draft him onto their ORFFA team.

Lockout will be extended until 7:25pm Saturday (the Hawthorn / Essendon game start) due to the Eagles / Brisbane team announcement being delayed by 24 hours

A bit short handed at the Bulls Hit Tavern tonight with a plane load of thirsty Taswegians confidently predicting a big win; not sure I disagree with them. Happy to take their money across the bar and in the restaurant. Not sure if they have accommodation booked as there isn't any available and a cold night is predicted. C'est la vie.

Got a couple playing tonight against the Devils.
    D - R Burton, R Bonner (B Williams)
    F - J Dunkley

Good luck @dmandrews although I am not sure you will need it.

The Devils are used to the rugged conditions and variable weather at Cradle Mountain where signs ‘Beautiful One Day … Deadly the next’ are displayed for good reason so spending a cold night in Waikikamoocow was like water off a duck’s back.

@graeme thanks for your hospitality at the Tavern with the Devils crew who enjoyed delicious meals from the restaurant and some cold soft drinks from the bar. There was a bit of banter between the Cows locals and some Devils players and coaches. The vocal minority of assistant coach Stevie J and midfielder/defender Dayne Zorko were adamant that Cradle Mountain were going to register a big victory whilst the loyal Waikikamoocow members and regular Tavern patrons had a very different view, so it wasn’t surprising that the banter quickly escalated.

On game day Stevie J took the coaches address for Cradle Mountain, amazing Zorko took the final players address and this duo inspired the Devils to play some breathtaking football and show no mercy on the Cows in the first half.

Cradle Mountain Devils Round 8 team and progress score:

Out: N Vlastuin (illness), L Breust (omitted)
    In: R Marshall, Z Jones

    Def: D Rich 117, D Heppell 111, J Bowey, J Lever (T Duryea)
    Mid: J Steele, S Pendlebury 97, D Zorko 123, J Redden 95 (H Morrison)
    Ruc: T Nankervis 121
    Fwd: J Gresham, A Naughton 124, T Membrey, J Gunston 95 (B Brown)
    Int: R Marshall, Z Jones (L Breust)

    In the third quarter
Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles 686/10 average of 68.6
    trail
Cradle Mountain Devils 883/8 average of 110.4

All eight Devils have scored between 95 and 124 points comprised of five tons led by Aaron Naughton (124), Zorko (123) and Tasmanian Nankervis (121) as well as three 90’s. All seven remaining Devils play in the early Mother’s Day game comprised of five Saints and two Demons.

The Cows best players to date have been defensive duo Jeremy McGovern (107) and Riley Bonner (94). In the corresponding game last Mark O’Connor was playing for the Devils and had a run-with role on Cows midfielder Tom Mitchell. Now at the Cows and named the midfield emergency for this game MOC was sledging Mitchell during the week and pre-game trying to fire his team-mate up however the tactic backfired with Mitchell having his first sub 75 game for the season with 40 whilst O’Connor blitzed in the seconds with 96.

CMD are ideally placed to record 1300+ for the fourth consecutive game and advance to five wins, just one win behind Waikikamoocow.

Graeme your pre-game comments have proven to be prophetic and although the Devils didn’t need any luck they have received some with a few quality Cows having a down day. Hopefully it doesn’t take long for the Cows to recapture their strong early season form and welcome Nat Fyfe back out on the park.

What do you call a team where the on-field players average 69 and the emergencies 83? Am looking for an adjective to go in front of "inept selections". Any ideas? Thanks for the excellent summary @dmandrews - pleased you guys enjoyed the hospitality. The cows are currently flatter than chelsea.
