    ORFFA Round 8 Review

Here are a few words, and some of them are even about Mark Seaby Round.

Larrikin Lagoon Lefties 1048 def by Gundagai Grasshoppers 1526
As the Twelfth Man once said, “Oh, f*ck me drunk, what a drubbing!”. 8 tons for snoz’s mob and 5 of them over 130 in an absolute route for the Hoppers who move to 7 & 1 (only beaten by the mighty Battlers so far :p). Geez, it must be rough when your fourth best mid averages 120, hey @snoz ? A few efforts of note for the Lefties from Hayes, Brodie and Jones, but other than Perryman, the backline was awful.

Iron Knob Codpieces 978 def by Dunsborough Dung Beetles 1026
In the first meeting of the FA’s newest coaches it was @CursingFijian and the Dung Beetles getting it done in a close one over @churchboy and the Codpieces (Churchboy and the Codpieces is almost a bad idea for band name). Low scores from McStay (12) and Anderson (23) kept the Codpieces in it but, in the end, playing two men short proved too much of a hurdle for the Cods. Celebrations kicked off in earnest in Dunsborough as the Dung Beetles celebrated their first FA win!

Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles 1089 def by Cradle Mountain Devils 1331
@graeme – I polled the masses and your request for an adjective has been answered. While I expect your own choice may have been a touch more eloquent, I’m afraid the overwhelming choice was ‘f*cking inept selections’. Bu then, what else should I expect from a Twitter poll? Selections may not have mattered, though, as the Devils were better on every line in a comfortable win over the Cows. Despite a couple of early hiccups this season, the champs are ticking along nicely.

Wagga Wagga Wombats 1206 def Marble Bar Misfits 1111
Two out of their last three now for the Wombats as they try to kick start their season after a sluggish start to the year. Possibly the most pleasing part for the coach was the performance of the youngsters like Caldwell, Cumming, Hobbs, and LDU. As for the Misfits, well, they just can’t seem to get going so far this year. I’m sure @Len would welcome a big lift from the boys in orange.

Foul Bay Chickens 1165 def by Birdsville Battlers 1227
The Chooks failed to capitalise on their ruck domination (142 vs 17) as the Battlers scored a rare Seaby Cup win. With three tons a piece but plenty of ‘meh’ to go with it, it was a close contest, but certainly not one for the ages. It doesn’t get any easier for either side next week as the Battlers take on the 3rd placed Cockies and the Chooks face the defending champs.

Lovely Banks Lilacs 1414 def Wineglass Bay Packers 1150
A season high score from the Lilacs sees them get the win over the Packers. Jen’s patience with the rebuild is certainly bearing fruit as the Lilacs have shown enough to suggest they’ll be right in the mix at season’s end. The Packers lost no admirers, though, and even though Tom Lynch’s big day out (184) was in vain, there’s plenty to like about their 4-4 start to the year.

Gariwerd Cockatoos 1385 def Whitsunday Warriors 1236
Gariwerd continue their strong early form move into 3rd after a comfortable win over the Warriors. It was a strong team effort from Ant’s boys with perhaps only a couple of the forwards to cop a ‘please explain’ this week. A competitive total from the Warriors with not much going wrong. Just ran into a better mob on the night. And, Terry, just an FYI. Wittsy called me and said he’s sorry he asked to leave and would like to come home now.

Nareewillock Nuffers 1190 def by Mount Beauty Uglies 1205
The Uglies scrape over the line against the Nuffers in what turned out to be the match of the round. The Uglies were solid with out being spectacular and are another of the mid-table teams that are hard to get a read on at this stage. But a win’s a win, so I’m sure @heavyman enjoyed a few cans afterwards. As for the Nuffers, their recent scoring says they’re travelling a bit better than their 1-7 record suggests, with a season high 1195 on the weekend to make it 3 straight scores of 1100+. And that midfield is one what to watch in the future.

Venus Bay Vultures 1316 def Charlies Opening Spelunkers 1190
Another solid performance for the Vultures who quietly bank another win and remain top of the ladder as the FA’s only unbeaten team. The backline was very good with a low score of 92. Plenty of good for the cave dwellers with 5 tons, led by Lurch’s 178. But there’s no sugar coating the effort from the forwards who were just plain shite.

Well @JC , your excellent review brings to mind the great Aaron Neville version of "Tell It Like It Is"; no messing round, just going right to the heart of the matter. And, yes the adjective you supplied was the most common one directed at the cow's management abject selection effort. Might be a bit from left field but predicting a win this week.

Great write up JC... seems the Spelunkers management went a bit early... back to the realms of mediocrity for us

    Bravo JC, great work.

    15 points. Sigh.
    Amiss in for Marshall. Sigh.
Moving one spot up the ladder and one spot down the draft order. Sigh.

At least figuring out the delists and trade bait come MSD time is becoming clearer by the day. :)

Congrats on the win too @CursingFijian - great to see.

    Great write up.

Lots of smiles at Dungbeetles training this week! Coach has had his contract extended for the decade or until global temperatures rise another degree, which ever comes first!

    GO YOU GOOD THINGS!!!

@JC. Good one. Wittsy has advised us that he prefers the island life to the dust bowl, even if the Battlers had a bar, friendly girls behind the bar and lobster pies. Which they don't.

    Beautiful work @JC
    Fuck me drunk alright!
Gotta feel for @snoz though, having to play some third string ruck in place of Grundy.
Hopefully they can struggle through this rough patch.
