The battle of the mountains reached great heights with both teams scoring 1,350+. The Devils and Uglies had each been involved in a game earlier this season where both teams scored 1,350+

Round 12 Mount Beauty Uglies 1,363 lost to Cradle Mountain Devils 1,532

It was a magnificent week for the Devils with six players each scoring at least 130 points - R Marshall (156), T Nankervis (141), D Rich (135), J Lever (135), N Vlastuin (130) and the captain S Pendlebury (130) to all be ranked in the ORFFA’s top 18 players for the round. Cradle Mountain amassed 1,532 points to register their highest score of the season and had nine players score 95+. Other results went the Devils way which resulted in them rising from eighth on the ladder after Round 11 to fourth on the ladder after Round 12.

Six Mount Beauty players scored tons led by midfielders Sam Walsh (138), and Jack Viney (123) along with defender Brayden Maynard (123) and forward Darcy Fogarty (121) after starting on the bench. MBU had seven scores of 95+ in their tally of 1,363.

In a high standard game 14 tons were scored between the two mountain based teams and another two scores of 95+ were registered. @bama and @HeavyMen would be experiencing some déjà vu after scoring 1,350 at home in a loss for the second time this season. In Round 7 the Uglies scored 1,361 but lost narrowly to the Lilacs who posted 1,389 which led HeavyMen to ask how often a score of 1,361 gets beaten. A question that I don’t think got answered at the time.

From Round 1 to Round 12 an ORFFA team has scored 1350+ 29 times at an average of 2.4 times for round. Teams reaching the 1350+ threshold have won 86.2% of the time, having a record of 25 wins and four losses. A season-high five teams scored 1350+ in Round 12, surpassing four teams reaching this mark in Round 7.

Mount Beauty’s score of 1,363 in Round 12 against the Devils is the equal highest score that has resulted in a loss this year along with the Devils 1,363 in Round 6 against the Grasshoppers.

ORFFA teams that have been defeated in 2022 when they have scored 1,350+

1,363 Mount Beauty Uglies in Round 12 – 5th highest score of the round in loss to Cradle Mountain Devils 1,532

1,363 Cradle Mountain Devils in Round 6 – 2nd highest score of the round in loss to Gundagai Grasshoppers 1,549

1,361 Mount Beauty Uglies in Round 7 – 4th highest score of the round in loss to Lovely Bank Lilacs

1,356 Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles in Round 11 – 3rd highest score of the round in loss to Foul Bay Chickens 1,368

Whilst Mount Beauty have two of the three highest losing scores of the 2022 ORFFA season they have not been dealt with harshly from an overall perspective in terms of points scored. After Round 12 the Uglies rank seventh for total points for and are also seventh on the ladder.

After Round 12, 2021 the fourth placed Marble Bar Misfits had nine wins and three losses to be five wins and points for ahead of the 13th placed Iron Knob Codpieces on four wins. It is significantly closer in 2022, after round 12 this season fourth and ninth are separated by points for only, all six teams having seven wins and five losses. The fourth placed Cradle Mountain Devils having a record of seven wins and five losses to be just two wins and points for ahead of the 13th placed Charlies Opening Spelunkers on five wins and seven losses. The third placed Gariwerd Cockatoos have nine wins to be two wins ahead of the fifth placed Cows . The top three comprised of the Vultures, Hoppers and Cockatoos are almost certain to make the 2022 ORFFA finals however it looks likely that several of the other five remaining finals spots will be determined in the last week or two of the home and away season.
