The final round of the home and away season is upon us!
There are lots of exciting games this weekend to shape the 8, and will Port Lincoln avoid having a winless season!

    upload_2022-7-12_20-40-13.png

There is bugger all separating 3rd to 6th, and 7th to 10th! So many important games this weekend, with seven of the eight games involving one of those teams from 3rd to 10th, and the remaining game is between Drouin (15th) and Cockburn (14th) to decide who gets pick #2 in the Pre-season draft!

I guess the match of the round is objectively Maralinga (5th) vs Heard Island (8th), with the former striving for a top-4 position and the latter fighting to stay in the 8!

Enjoy the footy, it should be a cracking round!

Fully support that @anthak, and would do so even if the 29ers weren’t holding the Bucks 2023 PSD 1st round pick.

    Black Swamp Round 15

McCartin Chapman Hardwick Young - No Emg
LDU J Daicos Sonsie Selwood - Schoenberg
C Taylor Bont Lipinski JHF - Lazarro
    S Ryan - O’Connor
    Ballard Spargo - S Neale

The 29ers match committee have named their Round 15 lineup (subject to change) for the match with Wedge Island @Bearfly with pre-season draftee Tyler Sonsie making his club debut

First and foremost our goal is to reach 900 this week to surpass our lowest ever season aggregate score, and once that is achieved we hope to give the White Pointers as diifciult a match as possible.

Good luck to all the sides this week as the season concludes for half of the comp.

Black Swamp have posted 12/1054 to lead Wedge Island 7/582 by 472 points.

The home side are fielding Barrass and Newcombe against Hardwick for the visitors in the early match.

The White Pointers will then look to take the lead through a half dozen Port Adelaide players vs Charlie Spargo for the 29ers in the second match of the day.

The 29ers hopes of an upset victory will then rest with Charlie Ballard who runs out unopposed in the final match of the round.

The White Pointers @Bearfly hit the finals in great form having performed with distinction on Sunday to pull away to a comfortable high double digit victory over the 29ers.

The vanquished, as forecast before the match, eclipsed the 900 point target but came up short of the W, despite a stellar team effort in the final game of 2022.

Some really close games this week, with 4 out of the 9 games decided by less than 50points!

A wild and dramatic final round of ORFFF footy saw the following results

Virgins by 7 – quite possibly the result both teams wanted as the Ducks lock in pick 5 in the 2023 PSD and the Virgins put a forgettable performance behind them and now get set for the Trip to Neptune Island in week 1 of the finals, and Virgin's champion Lachie Neale secured the votes needed to claim his second Dangerfield Medal.

Bucks by 15 – the match that almost went according to the script before the Bucks produced enough class in the closing stages to hand the Power their 15th loss of 2022. Nangkita now prepares itself for the toughest task in ORFFF (and arguable Fantasy) as they take on the Mole Creek Juggernaut next week in their first ever finals match,

Shags by 29 – in the pre-round review this was tagged as the match of the round and it lived up to the billing, momentum shifts galore before the Shags edged in front at the finishing line to prevail by 29 points, which in the end was the difference between finishing 7th and missing the finals. It is an exact rematch next week, same ORFF time, same ORFF channel, but this one will see the losers leave town and commencing their mad Monday..

Dropbears by 48 – in a a cagey match the Drouin side kicked against the wind in the first and 3rd and defended stoutly enough to allow them to kick away in the last to a bittersweet ORFFF victory. Results elsewhere saw the Avengers snag pick 2 in the 2023 PSD, while the Dropbears now sit two spots lower in the first round.

White Pointers by 75 – see the first writeup (ie the “quite possibly the result both teams wanted” part), albeit a more decisive margin of victory. The entire population of Wedge Island will be cheering on their side in their first ever ORFF Finals match, at home versus the Fugitives.

Fugs by 128 – for a team having started 7-1 then losing 6 straight the Fugs found a return to form, with Tom Barass posting a match turning performance in the early Sunday match to spearhead a droughtbreaking win which saw the team celebrate with gusto in the sheds afterwards.

Noahs by 305 – a Noahs side in red hot form, would probably be favourite or equal favourite in any other ORFFF season, the vanquished Woylies narrowly missed finals but will be back in the finals in 2023 guaranteed.

Glow-worms by 321 – the Eighth wonders of the modern world have proven to be the 2022 Glow-Worms who not only were the first ORFFF side to manage 21000 points during the home and away season, but just for fun added another 1000 points on top of that to finish with 22009 and a 10 match unbeaten streak. Bradman-esque probably undersells that achievement which will have 7 year olds telling their grand kids about, provided that the Tassie outfit follow up at the business end of the season in their pursuit for back to back ORFFF crowns.

With the home and away seasons now completed for 8 teams, and mad Monday well underway a reminder to the masses that AFL Round 23 will see Wedge Island hosting the East vs West All Stars game, so don't wander too far until then.

In the annual chase for individual honours Lachie Neale held off the chasing pack to become the 3rd two time winner of the Patrick Dangerfield medal alongside fellow greats Dangerfield and Brodie Grundy.

In a low-scoring count Neale finished 5 votes clear on 39, while Callum Mills and Rory Laird tied for 2nd, 1 vote ahead of James Sicily and Clayton Oliver who tied for 4th and the ever consistent Jackson Macrae who finished 2 votes further behind in 6th, edging out an unlucky Touk Miller by 1 vote.

Tough year for the Ducks, first year missing the ORFFF finals so it will be a lonely couple of weeks for the squad - we had enough points for to be in the top 8 teams even without a first ruck for most of the year, will be interesting to see what Grundy's 2023 holds that might dictate where we rebound to on the ladder.

Thanks again all for running the show, will pop my head back in for the all stars game not sure if I'll have too many nominations this year though!
