Yes gentlemen, its time to start talking 2023.

We're not going to give Nuytsland much time to bask in the glory of their recent grand final triumph!

Its the official off season for the ORFFU, which means everyone will be hard at work dissecting their team and trying to improve it. So we'll officially open up the pre-season trade period, but just a reminder to be patient with all coaches as they might not be logging in anywhere near as frequently.

Check back here in mid January for some dates. Expect it to be something like:
    • Mid Feb - PSD starts
    • Mid March - AFL season starts, all teams locked away.

Enjoy the off season gentlemen :)

Also, if there's anyone who doesn't want to continue being part of the ORFFU, then please let us know ASAP so we can look for a new coach and give them some time to plan, trade, and draft.
I'll otherwise assume everyone is keen to keep continuing as coach of their respective 'FU teams.

The opposite of what you asked but I am 'in' for 2023. Also like the move of the PSD from early to mid Feb. A couple of extra weeks of trying to figure out best 22's.

Hey Boss @JPK, just want clarification on delisting players.
Scenario: Liam Stocker delisted by Carton, if the Cuda's delist him now and then he gets picked up by say GWS and before the PSD can I say that I un-delist him and becomes a Cuda again or not?

I think that once I delist him he's delisted and in the pool and there's no getting him back, correct?

    Correct!

    5. DELISTMENTS
    (b) To delist players, simply post the players delisted on the delisted thread. Posting a player as delisted is final - it can't be undone and they can't be relisted.

    Yeah, delistments are final.
So if you think he'll get picked up by GWS (have you been chatting with Tom Browne?) then I'd hold him. If you think he might find a home elsewhere, then also hold him. If you think he's cooked, then throw him on the scrap heap - but once he's on that scrap heap you can't pick him back up (unless you select him in the draft).

Moral of the story: hold for as long as possible.

So everyone is now probably aware that the AFL are going to have a "magic round" in 2023.
    https://www.afl.com.au/news/864934/18-teams-one-state-afl-confirms-details-of-extra-round-in-2023
This adds an extra round of footy to the season, which we can use if we want.

There's no indication that the AFL bye rounds will change, so we'll still have that off for our mid season shennanigans.

There'll now be 24 rounds of footy, with three lost to the byes, there's 21 rounds of AFL available for ORFFU matches.
We have 18 teams, so that's 17 rounds. There's four left over.

    • We can just ignore this round (or any other round) and keep things exactly as they are.
    • We can add an extra week of finals footy (which will obviously need an adjustment to how we currently manage the finals).
    • We can add an 18th round of regular season footy (although I don't know how we'd manage who gets to face who twice).
    • We can have a stand-alone round, such as the "Man v Beast" we did a few years back.
    • We can come up with something completely different....???
    What does everyone think?
I'm feeling a vote coming on here, but first lets get the options covered.

I like the sound of your second option. Add the extra week to finals so it matches the AFL.

My 2 cents (showing my age)

I like the 4 weeks of finals. Gives the top 4 the double chance in the first week, not that it would have any bearing on my team, but it would be just reward for their seasons.

If we put this in place, then I think we should ditch the "choose your own adventure" model and follow the AFL's system (1v4, 2v3, etc.)

You're lucky the 2c coin is still legal tender, otherwise I'd have to consider your comment null and void :p

This is my favoured option, although I'm more partial to the McIntyre Final 8 system (1v8, 2v7, etc, with top 2 ranked winners going straight to the prelim).

Right now its looking like a 4-round finals is the preferred option.

I'm on board with 4 week finals.

Wonder if we could still incorporate the 'choose your own adventure' element though? Would mean 1st & 5th chose their opponents (from the top & bottom half of the 8) first week, highest loser from top 4 chose 2nd week and then highest winner from top 4 chose 3rd week. I like the elements that we have that make us different to the AFL
