    Round 7 - Bulls 1255 defeated by Barcrawlers 1295 @choppers

This one shaped as a key 8 point game as the 8th placed Barcrawlers made the trek to Mill Park to take on the 11th place Bulls. The BUlls had scored 134 points more across the season however a leaky defence saw them conceed 398 points more the Barcrawlers. All the numbers pointed a tight game.

The Bulls hopes raised when LDU didnt get off the bus and Greenwood misplaced his Visa documents. The game ebbed and flowed with the sides trading 100s Collins, Dawson, Hewett, FInlayson, Sparrow & Ladhams for the visitors and Brayshaw, Newcombe, Parker, COniglio and Whitfield for the hosts.

Ultimately as is often the case the inconsistent Bulls dropped the ball with Gunston and Lobb combining for a paltry 91 points, Hill mustering 59, Maynard 63 and McCluggage continued his awful form with 74. Dawson and Hewett on the other side roamed free on the wide expanses of Mill Park and this coach can only ponder what might have been had they paid some closer attention to these 2. With Ladhams playing out of his shell in the ruck and a Sparrow pestering the Bulls upforward 14 Barcrawlers snuck away with 4 points

Banchang improve to 5 & 2 whilst the Bulls lay limp at 2 & 5.

    3 - Dawson 150 (BB)
    2 - Hewett 124 (BB)
    1 - Brayshaw 123 (SFB)

Big Tap - Ladhams d Soldo

    Nice write-up @tyze1
However unbeknowns to most, Banchang are actually 4-3, not 5-2.
There was a stuff up at HQ in Rd1, and Banchang was given the 4pts , when in actual fact, Sthn Cross won Rd1, and now sit, after Rd7, at 3-4 not 2-5. Waiting for the table to be corrected....

Blanchetown Bunyips 1248 vs Horsham Huskies 1165

The Huskies made their inagural trip for 2023 to Blanchetown with high expectations on getting their 2nd win of the season whilst the Yips have been down on their luck both at home and away.

We always knew that the game was going to be tough with Witts getting first use of the ball in the majority of the contests and taking out the Big Tap points for the day. Once the ball hit the ground though, it was very evenly matched midfields let by Walsh (117) and Holmes (103) doing battle all day. Only Duursma (22) shit the bed and was missing most of the match.

In Defence the Yips, just got the choccies with Houston (110) and MacPherson (102) holding fast against the strikepower of Bailey (110) and Gresham (100).

In a surprising turn of events, both benches were huge for their respective coaches easily outscoring their season averages in a bid to get a starting spot in their teams.

    BOG - Hardwick (117)
    Walsh (117)
    Jones (113)

    Big Tap - Witts

    Sorry for the delay @Wolffy84

    Nuytsland 1160 def Carnamah 870

The air was thick with mist as the two tribes faced each other on the sacred ground of Oden's Graveyard. The Nuytsland Vikings stood tall and proud, their longboats anchored just off the shore. They were ready to defend their stadium against the Carnamah Cormorants, who had come to take what was not rightfully theirs.

The Vikings are a fierce and determined team, known for their bravery. Their best men, Powell, Petracca, Liberatore, and English, stood at the front of their ranks, balls at the ready. They knew the Cormorants would not back down easily, but they were prepared to fight to the death to protect their women and land.

On the other side of the oval, the Cormorants stood in silence, their dark cloaks billowing in the wind. They were a mysterious team, feared by few. Two of their fiercest warriors, Smith and Meek, stood at the front of their army, their eyes fixed on the Vikings. They knew that getting the footy would not be easy, but they were determined to emerge victorious.

The mist began to thicken, making it difficult to see more than a few feet in front of them. The only sound that could be heard was the soft thud of footsteps as the two teams began to move towards each other. The Vikings let out a fierce battle cry, their voices echoing across the oval. The Cormorants responded in kind, with a whimper.

The two teams met in the middle of the oval, bodies clashing against each other in a deafening roar. The Vikings fought with all their might, using their foot skills to protect themselves from the Cormorants' pace. Powell, Petracca, Liberatore, and English fought side by side, their bond as brothers only growing stronger with each passing moment.

Smith and Meek, however, were a force to be reckoned with. They were swift and agile, cutting through the air with deadly precision. They moved as one, their attacks relentless, but the Vikings to kept up.

As the battle raged on, the mist began to clear, revealing the true horror of the fight. Bodies littered the ground, both Viking and Cormorant alike. The smell of blood and death hung heavy in the air, and the cries of the wounded filled the silence.

But even as their numbers dwindled, the Vikings refused to back down. They fought with all their might, determined to protect their ladder position. Powell, Petracca, Liberatore, and English continued to lead the charge, their ball movement against the Cormorants' with a fierce determination.

And in the end, it was the Vikings who emerged victorious. The Cormorants were forced to retreat, their dark cloaks disappearing into the mist. The Vikings stood tall and proud, their spirits unbroken, even as they mourned the loss of their fallen brothers.

As they made their way back to their longboats, Powell, Petracca, Liberatore, and English knew that this battle was far from over. The Cormorants would surely return, their thirst for power and domination unquenched

    3. English 124
    2. Petracca 122
    1. Meek 110

    Big Tap English

    Round 8: AA vs HPD

How is it May already? With some players still recovering from the Jeremy Cameron premiership diet, despite coming nowhere near a 2022 premiership, the Armadillos were wary of a dangerous Prairie Dog outfit.

The Strawberry Disgusting duo of Oliver (136) and Mills (100) got it going in the middle for the visitors, while Cox (95) stood tall down back.
Langford (105) continued his great season while Ash (87) kept teasing coach @Batfink with his potential.
Sadly many P Dogs misfired, with Logue (47) a shadow of his former self and Josh battling (71) to get on the board; see what i did there?
Rayner at 29 and Ward at 43 wont happen very often, so the Dillos attempted to capitalise on a down day.

The back 6 (4) kept the team together as they have all season, with Blakey's 93 being the lowest score on that line.
Luke Jackson (126) showed glimpses of finding his feet in purple, with running mate Brayshaw shrugging off a knee complaint to reach 149.
Father time Jack Ziebell (179) peeled off a performance for the ages, yet it was the club's perennial barometer in Max Gawn (130) whose form delighted locals the most.

The Ararat staff did mention to the team it may be nice to save some good form for finals, however most of lads are used to peaking early.

Final result saw AA def HPD 1539 vs 1055

Serengeti were enjoying an extended stay at home and welcomed Blanchetown for the last of their 3 game home stand.

Off season acquisition Toby Greene had been enjoying the lush surrounds so much that he decided he’d take the week off and give a deserved start to Sam Powell-Pepper (50). Unfortunately SPP couldn’t replicate the form he’d been producing in the reserves and things started to go more poorly from there. Jordan Ridley (18) was struck by a stray object thrown by one of the visiting fans causing backline partner Steven May (50) much angst. When Captain Danger (58) left the field for good during the third term the signs were not good for the locals.

The angst was at fever pitch as they watched some brilliant performances from the visitors, particularly from young stars Walsh (106) & J H-F (109) and being wowed by the efforts of Charlie Cameron (131), Dan Houston (122) & big RoB (130) in the ruck.

With such incredible performances across the entirety of the field, it was going to take something special for The Buff to make it 3 from 3 before the left on their next road trip. Thankfully opposition coach @martyg was obliging with that special effort of his own. He was so confident in these efforts of his stars that he decided he’d let some players get match fitness in the reserves and only field 14 players in the seniors. The plan backfired though with the likes of Josh Kelly (129) and returnee Dom Sheed (115) doing enough to make up for their misfiring teammates and leading the team to a narrow victory.

    Final scores
    Serengeti 1269 def Blanchetown 1251

    BAFFU votes
    3 Charlie Cameron 131 (BBU)
    2 Reilly O’Brien 130 (BBU)
    1 Josh Kelly 129 (SB)

    Big Tap
    O’Brien 130 def Draper 110

In the game at The Stadium, Serengeti have taken a commanding lead over Banchang 3/280 to 3/199....

All the action has happened in the defences of both teams with Serengeti's Ballard (124) taking 10 intercept marks to equal the record, while down the other end Collins (50) for Banchang, has held Coleman Medal leader Cameron (66) to one solitary goal while Duggan (132) was rebounding at will, in his best game for the Barcrawlers since arriving from Coolgardie in the 2022MSD and on the darker side, unfortunately we saw Jones (17) leaving the game early with a broken jaw..

Work got in the way of posting my team. I wouldn't say comfortable as Vikings have played out of their skins just to keep up with Dillos

Update from The Stadium and Serengeti have increased their lead over Banchang and are in a commanding position 12/1164 to 10/815, mainly due to the efforts of Smokin' Joe up front with 6 snags and his highest ever SC score of147,the evergreen Viney(149) in the middle and Smith (102) following the ball. Their back 3 of Saad May and Burton (90,89,81 respectively) all combined to halt the Barcrawlers scoring.
For the home team, L D-U (122) returned to form but injured his hammy late in the game and will be missing until after the byes, Finlayson(102) out played his more experienced opponent in the ruck, and Coleman (102) coming off the bench, provided a welcome return to form.

with one game to go and my suspect maths, if Mitchell and ohalloran play to their averages then I win by 2 points.
Buttttt I think all your players bar 2 have exceeded their averages, so I’d back Xavier and Tom to smash the 170 odd required

might be one for the record books if both teams reach 1500 mark, i need Mitchell to get 120 to have a sneaky chance

The Bunyips @martyg finish on 1,103/15 73.5 just shy (I hope) of the Barracuda's final score of 1,109/15 73.9
