Its all over in the Goldfields, with the locals running out comfortable winners @Batfink Sorry for the delay, I was feeling very Olympic... There were a lot of ups and downs in this game, but in the end it played out almost exactly to the averages ((Coolgardie -5 on their YTD averages, and Hughenden +1 on their YTD averages!) The defence is where this game was, with the biggest scores all coming from intercept marks, and running off the backline, while pretty-much anything forward of center for both sides just fell apart. On the Prospector side, N Wanganeen-Milera was the man of the moment, with a BOG performance, ably supported by J Short who also brought up his century. On the Prairie Dog side of the coin, J Battle, T Barrass, and E Yeo all managed to hit triple figures, giving the side some hope of a win. In the ruck it was all the Big O, with a thumping win over his rodent opponent, who was only there because all the other ruck staff called in sick while actually sitting at home watching the rain in Seine fall mainly on the athletes (if anyone can think of a more apt rhyming word, please let me know)! The ruck dominance didn't lead to midfield dominance, with excellent performances from Wines and Serong offset by below average performances from second-stringers Bruhn and Clark. It was a real disappointment for the home fans! For the visitors Ward was great, Oliver was serviceable, but Ginbey and Berry let the side down. Up forward it was a whole lot of nothing, with nearly all forwards on the ground being belted by their respective defender. The Coolgardie goalkickers were all on Olympic watch, with a couple of average scores and a couple of dreary-eyes after staying up all night watching the opening ceremony. For Hughenden Rayner was a huge standout, leading all goalkickers, as the only forward on the ground to look dangerous. Unfortunately for the visiting fans, the rest of the boys in the P-Dog F50 were all seen huddled around a mobile, engrossed in the 4x100m Freestyle relays, and completely oblivious to the game going on around them. The Coolgardie bench came to play, putting up some defensive-minded performances, with both players rotating off the halfback line playing the sweeper role. The Hughenden bench was much less of a sight to behold, and can only be described as average at best. It was a case of neither coach being able to be too upset with the overall team performance, as expectations were met, but there are some individuals who will need to pull their fingers out, otherwise they might find themselves jobless next year! The giant tap was a walkover, with O McInerney, Coolgardie, defeating an OOP G Logue by 93 points, 119 to 26. The dias: Gold - N Wanganeen-Milera, Coolgardie, 134 points Silver - O McInerney, Coolgardie, 119 points Bronze - O Wines, Coolgardie, 114 points Next up, and the final H&A round of the season sees Hughenden back home, hosting the Blowies from Korumburra, while Coolgardie are on the road to Pakenham to face the Parasites. Good luck to all four teams.
Good job and congrats on highest ever score...... But why is it that every Coach seems to wait til they meet Bueng Kan, to produce their high scores, that result in The River Rats having the highest scores against of all teams, currently 19368.....
The Barracuda's finish on 1,284/15 85.6 defeating the Whalers on 1,133/15 75.5 After a lucky win against the Prairie Dogs the home team was looking to bounce back into some sort of form to be worthy of a top 4 finish by seasons end. The visitors got smashed by the Blowflys on their own turf last week so will be looking for some sort of improvement. McGovern didn’t get past his test this week at training, so Corr comes back in, he wasn’t sure on his feet after a night out on the turps. Lloydy and young Weitering stood tall getting plenty of the pill. Kolo chimed in with some nice possessions. Which meant the visitors were kept quiet for most of the day. Brad was Close with only one to his name, Pickett sat in the pocket for one, while Hip-wood complaint on the right side and young West looked good with two to his name. Grundy didn’t have it all his way this week, big Briggs was a solid as a rock and took the chocolates in the big tap. Up forward the home team Murphy played the defensive forward, Mclean botted two and again helped in ruck. The tackling machine Bedford stayed fast to his game style. While the Magnificent Zorko ages like a Cab Sav, running rings around his opponent and taking home the Ashcroft medal, nicely done. The visitor’s defence was, well a little slow off the mark, Comben very sluggish, Mark was Keane to impress but fell short. McCarin had 17 possessions and steadied the ship. Nank f the Luke kind played with heart attacking the ball whenever he could get a chance. Off the bench, it was evens stevens with Young and Sharp combining well for the home team while Baker the Swiss army knife and Tucker were very valuable for the run and carry. The Bont spent plenty of time up forward, kicking 1 and 22 possessions, Corn Boy was solid with 2 through the middle, Jarrod Flavour Berry roamed the wings and Oh Errol had plenty of the ball. The visitors had Pendles what a legend he is, as his teammates tried to keep up with him all day. It was a very tight contest, tighter that the Cuda’s would like, thankfully the Magnificent Zorko provided the winning class for the day take the win and the 4 points. The visitors @HOLKY continue to look for players to stand up and give them something so they can break into the top 8, this year not to be, however they certainly give it a go each year. Round 20 - AA vs CC The penultimate round saw the gentlemen of Carmanah, Carmaman, Carnaranama… The Cormorants visit Ararat. Stung by the first defeat of the year, the Armadillos came out with bad intentions; Treloar went bang (146), Stewart went bang (139), Brayshaw went bang (137), and Jack Higgins (57) had both shoelaces tied together by Connor MacDonald (116) in an attempt to overtake the season average of his fellow small forward. The People’s Beard was quiet (97) by his tall standards, first up from a spell due to throwing a shoe. Not daunted by the fast starting shelled mammals, the Cormorants Hawthorn brigade took it up to the home side; Weddle (88), Day (136) and Meek (115) all smashed their season averages, with Darcy (124) and… and…. And unfortunately no one else showed up for the visitors! Rookie sensation Reid tried hard (82), as well as Rioli (92) combining magnificently with Wardlaw (81), transitioning from halfback through the middle, but with only 139 points between Fogarty, Rachele and Khamis, CC was left wanting. The future looks bright for Carnamah, however it was Ararat who took the choccies today. AA 1,486 def CC 1,152
Blanchetown Bunyips 1431 Def Cow Bay Crocs 1136 @fresh Whilst both teams had zero chance of making finals, it didn't stop either team putting their best team forward and both having a red hot crack! For the home side, 9 scores over the tonne with Dawson also coming close with a 98. For the visitors it was mostly players hitting their season averages except for a few with Hopper, Bolton, Worpel and Balta all shitting the bed. It's been a long season for both sides and whilst the home side players got to enjoy a few free slabs in the sheds courtesy of the Bunyips social club, it will be time for @fresh to dust himself off and get ready for finals. Crocs finish 4th on the ladder Bunyips finish 10th on the ladder The Bunyips will be looking to the off season to plug the gaps and improve on an average 2024. Eden Whalers vs King Island Monarchs Match Report Eden 1208 def King Island 987 The last game for 2024 for the Whalers was a reflection of the season. Good improvement shown with a good win to close out the year. There was also a Lucky Find clash between Comben and McKercher with Comben getting a small win in this game but McKercher taking the overall victory for the season. The midfield was solid with the players gathered finding form. Unfortunately, Flynn was injured so couldn't be in the ruck duel against Briggs and Macrae was busy being the top star in the TSA league (may he not be delisted for any reason). Win number 6 maintains the average of 6 wins but solid scores this year and a solid lineup of players for 2025. Meanwhile, the Monarchs had some key outs and Lipinski barely got game time. Both sides should improve in 2025. BAFFU: Amon 3, Green 2, Redman 1 Giant Tap: Briggs 86 def Stone/Macrae (DNP)
The Barracuda's finish on 1,249/15 83.3 defeated by the Armadillos on 1,423/15 94.9 The Armadillos are in town and that only leads to one thing, drinking! Yes, that’s right the competition starts before the bounce. It’s always a shit show but we love it. Both teams had good wins last week. The league leaders Armadillos averaging far higher this year that all that come before them with only one blip on their sheet this year. The Barracudas have had an interesting year with some very low lows and some awesome highs. This time last year the home team didn’t really have a ruck last year, however the Grundy recruit will make for an interesting battle of the big boys. Treloar has been on fire this year after his was put up as trade bait, can he finish the year on a high. McGovern is back and in a welcomed sight for the home team, leading the way with Lloyd and Weitering in tow, with Kolo getting another chance. The visitors were kept busy, with ex-Cuda Cripps of the Jamie kind had plenty of possessions while Jackson, Miers and MAC Donald were kept quiet. Grundy was suffering from the session last night while the Bearded one went the next level taking the chocolates in the big tap. Up forward the home team Naughton tested well in training to be let back in, he’s still not 100%, Mclean was slow, young Bedford didn’t know where he was. Thankfully the Magnificent Zorko did his thing and kept the home side in the game. The visitors defensive line was in top notch gear, with Ryan and Stewart controlling thing with ease. Blakey was solid even though he was a step behind while McDonald with a T was too hung over. Off the bench, Sharp and Tuohy were groggy with no speed at all. For the visitors Rozee and Soligo injected their speed, skill, and laughter to the game. The Bont was left to carry the home team (again), 35 disposals, kicking two goals, all while not spilling a drop of his beer, what a legend, what a Captain. It was a rough and tumble sort of affair in the middle, Corn Boy Cripps had plenty of the pig skin, chimed in with a goal, Oh Errol was solid and Berry of the Jarrod flavour continued to clean up around the edges. However, the visitor’s midfielder were on fire, white hot like. Treloar, the guy that’s known as “Nobody” just keeps delivering with heaps of clearances, followed closely by Andy, nice surprise package in Rowell on how well he held his own after the turps he down was great to see and kept Laird entertained all day as he cherry picked. In the end the Mighty Armadillos @insider were just too good over most of the ground and the Barracudas can’t just rely on the Bont each week. On to the final series.
