    Post Season Review
The Bulls look back on 2016 with mixed emotions. Missing finals for the first time was disappointing, the ongoing illness to big fella Roughy continues to inspire us and we farewelled an up and comer in Josh Kelly.

However it is not all doom and gloom, the franchise still managed a positive win loss ratio and a point loss on the run in cost a spot in the 8. With a mid season shake up we welcomed some young talent to our forward and defensive stocks. We look forward to Salem, *Ellis, Wilson and *McKenzie becoming a solid back four for many years to come (* position regrading pending). Up front McGovern will be a partner in crime to Lynch and with the addition of 24 yr old Alex Fasolo the forward line certainly has potential. The emergence of Rory Lobb is reason to smile as he assumed the number 1 ruck role from big boy McEvoy and his ongoing development bodes well for the future. Lachie Weller gave us a glimpse of his potential scoring 114 and 95 in the final 2 games as he strives to lock down a permanent role in the side.

The unknowns will we see Roughy again in the red and silver? What damage / opportunity will positional regarding have to the squad? McKenzie, Ellis, Bird, Hall Weller, McEvoy, Lobb may all lose, gain or change positions.

    B&F
Congratulations to Stephen Coniglio on taking our his first B&F with 5 BOGs through out the years he is definitely delivering on the promise that our recruiters saw in him when he was traded at the expense of Luke Dahlhaus. Tom Lynch was clearly our best forward this year and his second place in a tribute to his consistency throughout the year. In third place Boyd put in a stella defence of his 2015 title and we look forwarding to signing him for 2017 in the near future.

    Top 10
    Coniglio
    Lynch
    Boyd
    Rockliff
    Hall
    Swallow
    Kelly
    Bastinac
    Mackie
    Griffen

Well what an off season at Mill Park, Bulls HQ

After missing the FU finals for the first time – changes needed to be made to the squad as we strive for premiership success.

    2016 / 2017 Trade review
The Bulls took part in 7 trades over the offseason
    1. Ryan Bastinac & 2nd Round MSD to Banchang for their PSD 12 & 1st Round MSD pick
The Bulls had high hopes for Ryan taking him in round 6 of the initial FU draft however the change of scenery in QLD has not established him as a mainstay of the Bulls midfield and we fear he may be borderline best 22 at Brisbane this year. When Banchang came knocking looking to bolster their depth we gleefully accepted.

    1. Nathan Wilson & PSD 12 to Gisborne for PSD 2 & 56
After trading PSD 2 away last year the Bulls were keen on getting a high first round pick in our possession to take to the draft. Backman Nathan Wilson was the carrot that Gisborne needed to let go of PSD 2 as first round picks were exchanged and PSD 56 was thrown in as the steak knives part of the deal.

    1. Aaron Hall, Garrick Ibbotson & Banchang’s 1st Round MSD were exchanged for Joel Selwood
In an enthralling auction the Bulls won the rights to Joel Selwood. It didn’t come cheap however with the Bulls giving up Hall, Ibbotson & a MSD pick. The Bulls had factored in that Hall would lose fwd status (which we now know he did) and given his inconsistencies were happy to roll the dice and let the downhill skier go. Ibbotson never lived up to his ability (we took him at round 5 of the initial Fu draft – oh to have this pick again) and at times was appalling in 2016 – he was likely going to be delisted by the Bulls. The Bulls banked Selwood in joining Rockliff & Coniglio as a threesome to fear in 2017

    1. Matty Boyd to Nuytsland for PSD 24
With Boyd entering his final year the Bulls gambled on old age, a returning Bob Murphy and the doggies wanting to get game time into some new blood would limit Boyds return in 2017. PSD 24 was too good to refuse.

    1. PSD 24 to Nuytsland for Sam Mayes
The Bulls were in dire need to acquire some defenders after releasing three so far in the trade period. PSD 24 made the return trip to Nuytsland and Sam Mayes arrived at Mill Park. Sam has talent and we hope Fagan can bring the best out of this one time first round draft pick.

    1. MSD Round 1 to Eden for Easton Wood
MSD picks are valued by some teams in the FU, the Whalers are one such team. The Bulls again keen to rebuild their defence brought in the oft injured Easton Wood to offer some experience and depth to the squad.

    1. Sam Reid to Serengeti for PSD 39 & 49
The Bulls traded the injured plagued Sam Reid to Serengeti for 2 third round PSD picks. These picks would be valuable in bolstering the Bulls draft picks as we took 6 picks to the PSD
The Career Stats of those traded

    Bastinac – 50 Games @ 79.1
    Wilson – 5 Games @ 52
    Hall – 15 Games @ 95.6ppg
    Ibbotson – 36 Games @ 72ppg
    Boyd – 50 Games @ 102.3ppg
    Reid – 15 Games @ 67.2ppg

Of those traded in: (3 years data)

    Selwood - 64 Games @ 112.6ppg
    Wood - 55 Games @ 76.4ppg
    Mayes - 56 Games @ 66.7ppg

    Draft reviews to follow

    Post PSD Trade Review

In breaking news the Bulls have secured Stephen Hill and a 5th Round 2018 PSD pick in exchange for young forward Mitch McGovern and a 2nd Round 2018 PSD pick.

The brothers Stephen & Brad are united and we look to them both excelling on the park together. Stephen will look to take the reins as M4 and his arrival was timely given that COniglio will be MIA for the first month.

Mitch departs with 3 games to his belt at an average 45.3 however with a top score of 95 - his best days are ahead of him undoubtedly.

The Bulls squad is now complete for 2017 as we strive to return to the finals action after just falling short in 2016.

    2017 Wrap Up
The Bulls again finished in no mans land in 2017 finishing 10th for the second year in a row. The Bulls narrowly missed out on a finals berth despite winning their final three matches and are yet to have a negative win loss record in a H&A season. The Bulls inconsistency again proved costly in 2017. The Bulls did however win their first silverware with Big Boy McEvoy taking home the Big Tap award.

    Mid Season
Saw the Bulls trade Joel Selwood for Lachie Whitefield & Will Hoskin Elliott in a blockbuster trade, whilst Taylor Duryea made way for Darcy Lang.

    B&F
Congrats to Tom Rockliff who took out his second Bulls B&F in a tight fought contest from Big Boy McEvoy

    Off season
The Bulls were again active in the off season and participated in 8 trades in attempt to make the 8 in 2018.

In: Trades David Zaharakis, Brayden Maynard, Shane Biggs, Darcy Byrne-Jones & Matthew Lobbe whilst the following were taken in the draft Brayden Ainsworth, Liam Ryan, Corey Maynard & Nev Jetta
Out: Andrew Mackie (ret), Andrew Swallow (ret), trades Jake Kelly, Ryan Griffen, Josh Bruce & Will Hoskin-Elliott whilst Pittonet, Bugg & Wellingham were delisted

    SF Bulls Updates
Congrats to Jai Newcombe for taking out his first B&F with the Bulls. Taken at pick 9 in the 2021 MSD Newcombe has developed into a hard nosed midfielder that embodies the Bulls spirit. His win breaks a run of 3 consecutive wins for Hugh McCluggage. Luke Parker & Stephen Coniglio make up the minor placings, Parker making it back to back R/Up finishes in his 2 seasons at the Bulls.

    Father Son Update
The Bulls recruitment department are closely watching the son of the Staghorn Flat coach as he begins to make a name for himself on the football field. The youngster taking all before him in season 2023.

Everybody's favorite or second favorite U14 Team 'Yackandandah' have had a massive 2 weeks.

    First Semi Final v Rutherglen
After a narrow up loss in the Qualifying Final the boys were keen to avoid a straight sets exit against a team they defeated by just 9 points during the H&A season. A blistering first quarter at Sandy Creek (The MCG of the bush) saw the boys take a 35 point lead. Eventually running out 40 point winners 11 9 75 to 5 5 35

    Preliminary Final v Beechworth
The boys went in as underdogs after going to Beechworth by 8 points early in the season and about 6 weeks ago by 30 points in a game where they were owned. At selection there was some big drama as the CHB missed due to rolling an ankle through the week causing a bit of a reshuffle for a team already lacking in height. Another strong first quarter saw the boys take a 13 point lead in 1/4 time, this extended to 23 points at the half and when the they kicked the first 3 of the third it was all over as the lead hit 42 points. This coach then took the opportunity to ensure all 24 players got a good run and rested a few sore boys in the last as the young roos ran out 19 point winners 9 6 60 to 6 5 41

Grand Final v Dederang Mt Beauty
All is set for a big grand final on Saturday as the boys from Yack take on the bombers Dederang Mt Beauty. DMB is undefeated to date having accounted for us by 28 points in the H&A before a tight Qualifying Final where it was all square at 3/4 time just 3 weeks ago.
League preview to follow once it is posted.

An intriguing match kicks off the TDFL grand final day with Dederang Mt Beauty Football Netball Club taking on Yackandandah Football Netball Club

Dederang's only loss for the season came by way of forfeit to the minor premiers Beechworth. They have put in 2 dominant finals performances to book the first spot in the big dance.

Yackandandah lost the first final to Dederang before bouncing back to beat Rutherglen in the 2nd elimination final and then upset Beechworth in the prelim. Yackandandah will be full of confidence after a couple of wins.

They boast the league B&F winner in Ollie Boddenberg who is bordering on severe leather poisoning after his last month of footy. He has been well supported by Beau Elkington, Mitch Waller and Angus Dickens. Yack have the soldiers to do the job and should feel confident going in.

Dederang will be looking to cap off a near perfect season in this one. They could possibly regain Darcy Fallon after an injury in the first final. He will only add to a long list of quality contributors in the baby bomber brigade. We look forward to the league B&F go head to head with the runner up in son of a gun young Jack 'Archie' Coulston. This should be a treat. Jack is well supported with Toby Derrick, Beau Duggan, Will Lutter-Wood and Jai Redmond all proving hard to stop at Sandy Creek.

All in all this should be a cracker to start the day. I look forward to seeing 40 odd young lads show us what it takes to achieve ultimate success

    Good luck to both teams.

Apologies all for the lack of an outcome of this highly anticipated clash.

As per the above the bombers entered this GF undefeated whilst the roos had hit their straps in the last 2 weeks making the gf from 3rd.

As expected the bombers sent Duggan tagged Boddenberg, whilst the roos deployed a dummy CHF to quell the influence of Gardiner and sent McGregor to Coulston when the bombers went forward. In a surprise leading goal kicker of the league Redmond lined up at FF not his customary CHF and was taken by Dickins after being toweled up only 2 weeks earlier by the returning O'Brien.

The boys got off to a strong start dominating the early exchanges and getting the first on the through their leading goal kicker Millar. 2 or 3 golden opportunities were missed by the boys and a clumsy holding the ball decision inside D50 saw the bombers get their first through Redmond. Boddenberg was everywhere in the first with 13 touches despite the hard tag. At 1/4 time in a tight intense battle it was the Roos leading by 1 point.

The second quarter was dominated by the bombers with them kicking the first 2 of the quarter and opening up a 12 point lead. The roos responded in the back half of the quarter and got reward for effort when Maybury Crow snapped truly. At half time it was the bombers leading by 6 points.

Once again it was the bombers who started the quarter better and half way through had opened up a 14 point lead Redmond snagged his 2nd, whilst the lanky Fallon also hit the scoreboard. This coach was overheard saying to his 2IC we need the next one. With Boddenberg lifting after a quieter 2nd 1/4 with 9 touches in the 3rd the roos hit back with a Millar set shot. Boddenberg won the next center clearance and Maybury Crow snagged his second after dangerously playing on from the goal square. At 3/4 time things were all square 4 6 30 in a game that mirrored the Qualifying final some 3 weeks earlier.

This coach in a passionate 3/4 time speech implored his chargers that after 7.5 months for training and playing with 'boys all I'm asking is for 15 minutes more effort'. It was a tight see sawing final quarter with neither team able to capitalise despite some clear chances. Key backs O'Brien & Dickins stood tall at with some great intercept marks whilst Attwood off HB took a hanger deep in the back pocket. Redmond missed 2 set shots for the bombers and it was still anyones game. At the other end McIntosh missed a golden opportunity on the run to nail one for the roos. With 3 mins left the ball spent the rest of the game inside the roos F50 trailing by 3 points. The wall was set and repeat entries were coming back to back. In the desperate final exchanges and with only seconds left a snap from a ball up from Boddenberg was marked in the goal square with some 10 seconds left.

In a game which hard my heart raising the favourites prevailed by 3 points. Fallon (20d), Coulston (18), Redmond 2g4 & Flay (13) playing their part for the bombers whistle Boddenberg (29k, 6h, 3m, 11t, 8 inside 50, 4 rebound 50 - 153 DT points), Maybury Crow (2g), McGregor (15) & O'Brien standing out for the roos.

Gotta say boys in was one of the hardest post game speeches I had to give to the crowd! All in all it was a hard fought tight battle, both teams with chances to win it.

Well it hasn't happened in the FU, but this coach is now a premiership coach after the Yackandandah U14s took all before them in 2024 going through undefeated. On the weekend they tackled Wodonga Saints a team they had only played played once throughout the year winning that clash by 22 points.

The granny was put to bed early as the rampaging roos slammed on 5 goals in the first 9 minutes of the game, comfortably running out 53 points victors 11 2 68 to 2 3 15 in what was a perfect season.

In a ripping day for a success starved club Yackandandah took out all 5 footy grades in a monumental day for the club!

Young Ollie Boddenberg on the success of his 2023 campaign with Yackandandah U14s made the switch to Wodonga Raiders U16s in '24.
It was a slow start to year after fracturing his ankle just before xmas and then dislocating a finger during a limited preseason, before a barnstorming finish to the season.
