Our erstwhile fixture fixer @Jen is going to prepare the 2025 FIXture very soon but before that I thought it might be an idea to see if there's any specific fixturing requests or things that need to be include or that coaches wanted set in place. That might be a specific matchup in a specific round as has been the case in the past, or a specific date or round set aside for a theme. Let us know!
OK, my suggestions as usual, we will start round 1 (not opening round) as there are a stack of byes there Bye rounds are:Rounds 12, 14, 15, 16 where 4 teams minimum have the bye, Round 13 only has two teams with the bye so we need to play it in my opinion Means MSD is rounds 14-16, with State of Origin if we want to run it 15 round home and away Rounds 1-11, 13, 17, 18, 19, everyone plays everyone 4 round finals series Rounds 21-23, avoiding the last round of the year palaver where AFL coaches shaft us we good?
Round 3 also has 4 teams with a bye - lions, pies, cats and swans. Would be great if we could avoid playing that round. You have nothing scheduled for round 20 in the post above.
Let me know how you want I set, I have the start of the FIXture done, but as I put in the dates, and rounds, so we can all keep up let me know what you want. Round 1 is start of the season for us not Opening Round. Skipping round 3, as 4 teams have byes, is that correct. So it would go Round 1 & 2, skipping 3, 4 teams have a bye, Round 4 - 11, will round out the first half of the season Does that sound correct?
Playing AFL rounds 1-2, 4-11, 13, 17-20 everyone plays everyone once each. Then 3 week finals series from 21-23. The mid season period - draft etc - will be rounds 14-16. So round 13 is also part of the first “half” of the season.
I was trying to work out where the other round would come from if we skipped Round 3 and 13 is it. So this works out. Thanks

i personally think playing each other once each through the season is preferable, and having a 3-week finals series instead of 4-week to accommodate this
Right, I hadn’t realised that. So we need to decide 3 or 4 week finals series, rounds 21-23 or 21-24. I personally prefer the latter, 4 weeks 21-24.
Round 24 is such a $hitshow though, would be a shame to have the Granny decided by who has the least 'rested' players. A 3 week finals series could be done easily: (Lets just say all highest seeds progress for this example) Rd 21: 1-8 2-7 3-6 4-5 Rd 22: 1-4 2-3 Rd 23: Grand Final 1-2
We’ve had a 3-week finals series for almost the entire history of the FA, so we know it can be done easily. But I think picking opponents is better. I don’t mind us playing in round 24. Not many players were rested last year. But I’m happy to go with the flow. Either way is fine by me.
I agree, let's avoid 24 I actually like the idea of top teams picking their chosen victims, adds some spice to the season ... we can work that out closer to the time though, not a decision that needs to be made now @Jen you are a green light to go with this
