Hi all I am proposing that we alter ORFFF rules 1 (b) and 5 (c) through 5 (f) to reduce squad size from 30 to 29 and keepers from 24 to 23 effective for the upcoming 2025 preseason draft period. http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/orfff-rules.89340/ A short rationale in favour is provided in post 5 below. Please vote on this by no later than 9pm Wednesday February 12th Cheers TTH
A FYI that the rationale for the change is to assist with the ORFFFS ability to play a continuous season in the current and future fixturing of the AFL, ie in 2025 we will be playing only 19 of 24 AFL rounds excluding AFL opening round due to the number for 4 team byes. Ideally we would play more of the first 23 of these rounds and potentially miss round 24. Basically if squad sizes are reduced it increases the pool of "replacement" players who can be called upon to fill the holes in squads for 2, 3 and 4 team bye weeks and is likely to be necessary if the AFL expands to 19 teams in 2028 or thereabouts and regularly has 3 and 5 team bye weeks.
Personally I'd take it a step further. Squad size 28 & keepers to 22, delists at 6 each year. Its the only way to make it hurt a little and thus open the pool to all swimmers.
