    Getting in early this week.

    AFL Round 8 – Thursday 1st May

ORFFA Round 7 – Regrets Round

Following on from Bandit's musings in the Round 6 review thread, it might be time to express some rueful regrets when it comes to some drafting, delistment and trade choices our erstwhile group of ORFFA coaches may have made.

For some, a simple "I have no playing ruck" may be the appropriate response. For others, well, there might be all manner of other moves (or non-moves) from which to choose.

Here's to a round where there are no regrets ... and there are as many playing rucks as possible.

Now, if anyone has a playing ruck they'd like to trade me ....

Dunsborough Dung Beetles v Cradle Mountain Devils
    Gariwerd Cockatoos v Junee Jaguars
Mount Beauty Uglies v Iron Knob Codpieces
Waikickamoocow Incorrigibles v Wagga Wagga Wombats
Charlies Opening Spelunkers v Nareewillock Nuffers
Lovely Banks Lilacs v Venus Bay Vultures
Wineglass Bay Packers v Gundagai Grasshoppers
Larrikin Lagoon Lefties v Birdsville Battlers

Just an alert - short of a miracle, I have no playing ruck.

My biggest regret will always be not picking Bontempelli in the 2014 PSD. I won’t ever let that go.

I was genuinely wanting to pick him and I had 3 draft picks ahead of where he was selected at #15.

The 3 guys I picked were:
    9. Matthew Scharenberg
    12. Dayle Garlett
    14. Matt Crouch

I had Scharenberg ahead of the Bont at the time and I was very happy to select him at #9; he was meant to be the next Brendon Goddard haha. I also really wanted Matt Crouch and I always intended to take him at #14 because I thought he'd last to there. It was at #12 that I was going to take Bontempelli and I changed my mind to Dayle Garlett in a stroke of madness that I'll never be able to explain or justify. He was a super talent, but there was already grumblings of discontent at the Hawks about Garlett at the time I drafted him, and he was let go by the Hawks soon after. Whereas Bontempelli hasn't done too bad with his career since then.

The Bont sincerely appreciates you overlooking him so he could come to The Pit @anthak

He is a stalwart of the club now, a leader in every sense, and is lighting it up at the moment after his return from injury!

To quote Frank "Regrets... I have a few" most of them settle around holding on to 'potential' breakouts like Anth's example of Garlett above, for far too long.

Just a few that come to mind

    Sam Petrevski-Seton
    Will Kelly
    Sydney Stack
    Jack Bowes
    Ned McHenry
    Oskar Faulkhead
    Jesse Motlop

Brilliant idea for a round @chris88 , brilliant. The cows have a number of regrets.

The first is at the selection table. Time to admit I might be schizophrenic. Neither chels nor graeme is good at the selection table. The most recent example is last Saturday. Looking at my defenders and trying to decide who to play. Connor O'Sullivan or Jeremy McGovern; the former has been in my team all week. Then the doubts creep in. Too late to play both, need to make a choice. The voice of chels intones - "tough game at the G against the blue scum and their talls. Gov's got the hawks, lots of ball to intercept." Yep, graeme thinks, thanks chels you are being logical for once. Let's change the kid for the veteran. O'Sullivan (95), McGovern (79). Not a disaster, but the little voice in my brain says "gotcha, what mistake(s) are you guys going to make this week."

    Anyone else got this problem?

Absolutely the same, @graeme and @Bandit - my forward line is the centre of so many selection issues. Especially with a couple of guys missing.

F3 and F4 - should it be Langford, Higgins, West, Ross, Bedford .... what will happen when Daniels comes back? Yeah, nightmares.

A drafting regret was JHF over Daicos. Nuffers had won, what, one game the previous season so had the #1 PSD pick and it was probably the year to have the second pick and let whoever slip to Pick 2 through to Pick 2. But JHF has been good since arriving in Port Adelaide.

Other one is the perennial lack of a ruck and the conundrum of using a draft pick on ordinary back-up vs choosing someone who will play. Hopefully a couple of my Richmond youngsters will come through to help.
