This week saw some unbelievable scoring, along with a few who took the round theme as an instruction rather than a fun idea for a theme.
Apologies in advance for the…. “humour”. Well, humour is doing a lot of work in that sentence so perhaps, substitute that for “ramblings of a crazy person”.

Cradle Mountain Devils (1441) def by Nareewillock Nuffers (1494)
Great contest in what was the match of the round. Cradle Mountain fielded a strong lineup with Mannagh (130) and Hopper (139) leading the way. But the Nuffers were just a bit too strong thanks to a massive 161 from Matty Rowell, plus tons from Serong (122), Clark (126), and Idun (117).

    Fun Fact:

Nareewillock once had a post office and not much else. The Nuffers are now their biggest export since wheat.

Wagga Wagga Wombats (1199) def Venus Bay Vultures (1145)
Wagga Wagga got the win in a tight contest on the back of strong efforts from Impey (120), Worrell (116), and LDU (117). The Vultures put up a strong fight, led by a superb 149 from NWM, but lacked consistent support beyond Pickett (117) and Docherty (108). And on that note, all the best to Doc this week in his final game. Unbelievable resilience.

    Fun Fact:
“Wagga” means “crow” in the Wiradjuri language — so “Wagga Wagga” means “place of many crows”. Tbh, I have no idea where to take this for a mildly humorous comment or sarcastic reflection on the game.

Iron Knob Codpieces (1154) def by Gundagai Grasshoppers (1446)
The Hoppers do it easily over the Cods. Grundy (153), Oliver (101), Simpkin (115), and Mills (115) all put on a clinic for the visitors. The home team had flashes from Sinclair (120) and Stringer (110), but otherwise were outclassed across the board.

    Fun Fact:
Iron Knob is often called the birthplace of Australia’s steel industry. Its iron ore helped build the nation — just not its fantasy points this round.

Junee Jaguars (1148) def by Birdsville Battlers (1194)
A balanced effort from Birdsville, led by Kennedy (124) and Flanders (115) sees them over the line in another close game. Taranto (136) and Briggs (124) tried hard for the Jags who came up just a little short.
Neither coach saw much of the game as they were too busy talking shit with each other at the bar.

    Fun Fact:
Birdsville is home to an iconic horse race – but clearly not a team of fantasy thoroughbreds.

Dunsborough Dung Beetles (1138) def Larrikin Lagoon Lefties (974)
The Beetles get the win in a low scoring affair with the Lefties. Green (150) had a huge game and was ably supported by Reid (122) and Atkins (112). Hardwick (136) tried his best to carry the Lefties but not sure too many of his mates made it out of the swamp.

    Fun Fact:
Larrikin Lagoon is a wetland on Kangaroo Island, covering just 0.31km². So, much like their score, it’s not very big.

Gariwerd Cockatoos (1239) def Wineglass Bay Packers (1151)
Jordon Sweet went BANG with a monstrous – albeit surprising – 200 as the Cockies eased past the Packers. It wasn’t all a one man show, though, with Farrell and Holmes also doing plenty. Wineglass Bay put up a fight with Cameron (130) and Ash (120) trying hard to keep them in it, but it wasn’t enough.

    Fun fact:
Gariwerd contains over 80% of Victoria’s known Aboriginal rock art sites. Could Jordon Sweet’s effort on the weekend be the inspiration for a new addition?

Mount Beauty Uglies (1151) def Lovely Banks Lilacs (1124)
He Uglies get over the line in yet another close game this week. Salem (134) and Gawn (128) were the best for the Uglies, who benefited from some absolute stinkers from a couple of Lilacs. Despite that, the Lilacs nearly stole it on the back of a fantastic Heeney (197) and Curtin (132) double act — the best forward duo of the week — but they lacked output elsewhere.

    Fun Fact:
Mount Beauty was built to house workers for the nearby hydroelectric project in the 1940s – somewhat ironic given both teams seemed to lack a bit of spark. I know, I know. These are getting worse. Fear not - one to go and then I’ll see myself out.

Waikickamoocow Incorrigibles (1073) def by Charlies Opening Spelunkers (1643)
In a game between two teams at different points of the journey, this one was a fair old shit kicking. The Spelunkers absolutely lit it up with an incredible score of 1643 with Daicos (169), ANB (155), Bont (126), Blakey (123), Jackson (118) and Jezza (114) among those going past the ton. For the Cows, Dunkley (129) and Ward (121) battled valiantly, but were outnumbered and outgunned.

    Fun Fact:
Waikickamoocow is located somewhere between Woop Woop and Wherever-the-Hell. Probably near a cow paddock and a good yarn.

Well, that’s it for this week and, yes, I know what you’re thinking. Thank fuck that’s finished.

Super effort that @JC , very entertaining, BTW, Waikick has a hell of a good pub. I spent a lot of the weekend in it reflecting on the state of the world.

Love it, particular highlights that gave me a morning chuckle

"The Nuffers are now their biggest export since wheat."

"So, much like their score, it’s not very big."

The humour was better than the author gave it credit for!
